Well first of all thanks to Namo for telling me what I would say and think. Yet again you speak for others like you are the voice of truth when in fact most of what you say is simplistic, condescending and often ill though out. You also always manage to largely ignore the majority of the post someone puts about you as you know damn well they are right.
Jane, critics don't judge her performance and say she's too old to do that, in fact her performance even with the fall was deemed the best of the night. Critics call her too old for simply having the nerve to be a 56 year old woman in the pop/dance industry, it's a young persons game so she should move on, that's ridiculous. When they review her live performances they always seem to praise them, however whenever she does something they disagree with the wolves cry 'she is too old'. It's the twitter universe, normally older women or young gay men who says she is too old to be dancing around like that. She is dancing her ass off and putting on a show because that's who she is, and since she pretty much invented the template for a powerful female pop star then I'm not sure where this rule comes from that at 56 she should stop doing what it is she loves doing. I guess we should tell anyone theatrical who is over 50 and wanting to perform anything but a lovely ballad in an age appropriate outfit to sit down, including Chita for example. I wonder if the same would have been said about Michael Jackson? I doubt it.
As for showing her ass on the red carpet Jane I was talking about her Brit performance, the ass thing on the Grammy red carpet we could have done without, but that's her, what harm is it really doing? And sorry but you are living in a happy clappy universe if you don't think the critics would still knock her appearance even if she just sat there and sung. She can't go to the gym or the shop in a track suit without getting a full article in the papers that mention and criticise her age.
Horsetears, I ain't confused about anything, I was addressing both points. As a Madonna fan (or fan of anybody) we always want artists to change things up and try new things. Mine just doesn't involve telling her to act her age as I think it's a mute point.
You mention the other awards performances but there is a huge difference. The Grammys was the first time she performed in 2 and a half years, anyone can surely see a performers nerves. She looks far more confident on the Brits, even after the fall. Also the great vogue performance on the VMAs she didn't sing live, the Music performance may have been fun but she sounded pretty bad. So we criticise and demand she sounds better and sings live all the time, so the dancing is toned back so she can do that and she's clearly concentrating on her singing and we criticise and say she looks uncomfortable or can't do it anymore. We tell her not to wear that skimpy Grammy outfit (which personally I thought she looked great) so she's covered up for the Brits but then it gets to stupid levels where some take aim at something as stupid as her shoes. She will never win in the eyes of everybody because everybody wants something different from her. So what should she do, what can she do that will satisfy everybody? Nothing, that answer simply does not exist. LFL is her best debut single from one of her albums in ages and the critics love it, but it doesn't sell as well so she's over, for a media obsessed with her age they never mention it when it comes to the fact it's almost impossible for an older FEMALE artist to gain traction on the singles charts. The list goes on and on.
As for Ghosttown I think it's a great song and that seems to be one that fans and critics are citing as one of the best as well, so maybe this era for Madonna just ain't for you, like the American Life era just wasn't for me (though in retrospect it's a strong album), again we all want something different from her, she will never satisfy the world.
Everybody always has an opinion on what she should be, how she should act etc, nobody is right and nobody is wrong as it's opinion so we could go round and round. I like hearing from people like HT since he's a fan, he has a vested interest, but when people like Namo or Namo's shadow just talk for the sake of talking it gets real dull real quick because a conversation or debate can't happen because the positive will be ignored and the negative repeated over and over. The silly digs and the attempts at cruel humour by Namo have got as repetitive and eye rolling as what he claims Madonna's career is. Oh the irony
She has just recorded what most fans and critics are saying is her most intresting and unique albums in years, also probably one of her most 'mature' (yes a couple of clunkers are on there but hey that's Madonna) but where are all these peoples comments who keep telling her to change things up and record better stuff etc in threads about that? They ain't there because they don't buy the album, plus they would rather stay quiet than ever compliment her for the achievements she's making today. I find that odd. I can't stand Lady Gaga but I have to admit she knocked it out of the park on the Oscars and quite liked her duets with Tony Bennet, I will always give people the credit when I enjoy something no matter what I think about the person, I find it odd and little creepy when people seem to live to criticise. It just ain't healthy.
Namo i love u but we get it already....you don't like Madonna
