Taboo I believe all the money from ticket buyers who got the album option was added together and to her first week sales--which is where I think there is a fair complaint about the practice. But meh, it's all relative. I don't quite understand where the issue is--IMHO unless Madonna had had a single that had somehow broke through the way Cher did with Believe, there's basically no point to whether the sales reflect the quality of the album. She sold the way she would have regardless.

But shouldn't Madonna, of ALL people, have had a breakthrough like "Believe"? I can't believe she no longer has the dedication or discernment to be do that.
From Billboard:
"Not sure I'd agree that "Luvin' " and "Wild" weren't smart single choices, as radio seems to be on-board with the picks. After "Luvin' " reached No. 24 on Billboard's Nielsen BDS-based Pop Songs chart, "Wild" looks set to debut when the list is updated on Monday (April 16). If "Wild" charts, Madonna will have sent two singles from the same album onto Pop Songs for the first time in more than a decade. She last did so with "Music," when the title cut and follow-up "Don't Tell Me" reached Nos. 2 and 4, respectively, in 2000-01."
The author also ranks all of her albums. I would have put Erotica way higher on the list.
What is going on with Madonna?

The Pop Songs chart? Honestly, when did Billboard become the equivalent of a kids soccer league where everybody gets a ribbon?
If people are looking for the deluded perception of the superfan, just look for a line like this:
Madonna was always at the forefront, even in recent years with "American Life," "Confessions on a Dance Floor" and "Hard Candy."
That list is rather odd. Personally, I would start by switching Erotica with American Life, but why exclude I'm Breathless? It's not really a soundtrack album. I'd definitely put it in the top 4-5.
Namo...I'll give you Hard Candy. I don't think I have one song from that album on any of my playlists. But I really did like American Life (I thought you did too?) And even though I wasn't that big of a Confessions fan it was a well reviewed album, at least according to Metacritic.

I did like American Life. But if I think about it, there's nothing particularly forefronty about it. And definitely not the following two.

This Forbes article is almost literally like they're punching Madonna hard in the face. Although the last three sentences could have been written by me.
Also, who's big idea was it to do an amazon promotion and not promote that? It's like they're going out of their way to make this flop. Is Guy Oseary actually Max Bialystock?

But it still counts as doing zero promotion now that the album has already flatlined, right?
LOL That Forbes guy has hated Madonna for years.
I agree that they are handling this album in the worst way, do some advertising, some promo, Billboards should be everywhere with the countless great reviews written on them etc. I know that a couple of interviews are planned.
Yeah...I would agree that none of those albums were forefronty. I do think American Life was a pretty big departure for her.
But I never thought it was Madonna's music that made her cutting edge in the first place. To me that was more to do with her image and the boundaries she pushed in her videos, tours, etc.
I just feel like I've been reading the same "MADONNA IS OVER!!" article since 1992 after Erotica came out. Is she the trendsetter in pop that she used to be? No. But is it fair to even expect her to be?
And I still think this album is a gigantic improvement over Hard Candy. With some songs...Love Spent, I'm Addicted, I'm a Sinner, and Masterpiece...I really love.

The Girl Gone Wild remixes are out on itunes and is climbing up the album charts. i last saw it at #45.
Remix versions are better than the original.

Why nervous? she is busy planning a tour.
I think a single will come out just before the tour kicks off and i know they are going to re promote the album just prior to the tour.
Oh and the idiot at Forbes, told off by his Editor and had to print a retraction on an article that he did about her that (shocker) he got wrong lol

hahah. really?
he spends wayy too much time on negative articles on her. a bit much I think.
I'm someone who adored her from the minute she crawled on a floor in a wedding dress with my Mother screaming "Putana" at the TV screen - This CD is a complete let down.
She's just going through the motions. She no longer has anything to say.
Ya know, fans for years were kept happy with thoughts of a "Madonna: Unplugged" or an album of standard or the hard rock album with Joe Henry that she has been promising since 1996.
It's simple why none of the projects ever came to fruition. Effort!
It would take time, energy, effort, care, forethought, and impetus to step away from the norm.
She just wants to do the bare minimum to keep a hand in....and that's all.
That's not the woman I loved.
Sorry to disagree but tome this record is one of her best in a long time, and i have also been a fan since i was little (when i first went to the Who's That Girl Tour in Leeds). I am not really sure why she has to 'say' anything, i must have missed the point of her trying to say something in Holiday, Like a Virgin, Vogue etc. She is a pop/dance artist and always has been. If anything i think MDNA has far more to 'say' than some previous efforts like Hard Candy. I would much rather have an album where she talks about the collapse of her marriage etc than her groaning on about the war. This album has so many strong dance tracks, and i think Love Spent is up their with some of her classic songs.
As for Madonna unplugged, really? i love her but the thought of her vocal and a guitar alone is not a pretty one, and do you not think more Madonna fans would be miffed if she did a hard rock album (plus i am not sure how that would mean she had something to say)?

I think she says plenty on MDNA.
This is her divorce album.
Almost every song is about divorce in some way- or regret- or vulnerable in 'I **cked up'..
After 3 weeks, ..my faves are
I'm Addicted
Love Spent
Best Friend
Falling Free
I Don't Give A
Gang Bang
all the songs are great pretty much.
The only one I skip over is Give Me all your love
I can't take that song... it's so out of place with the rest of the album
Yeah, and I don't think Madonna needs to prove anything after 30 years. But she had plenty to say on MDNA.

SandD, how can they "re-promote" an album everybody keeps saying over and over they have done NO promotion for? Throughout her touring career she has consistently found the time to promote her new material while preparing for her tours. This "too busy" excuse just doesn't make any sense to me. I think she just no longer has her head in the game.
I think a Madonna unplugged album with Joe Henry would be the first Madonna album I DIDN'T buy.
I think she just no longer has her head in the game.
Bravo! Namo! Bravo. You know, it's funny reading the defensive retorts to any negative comments. This is what I must have sounded like for years.
They have a few things coming up just prior to the tour kicking off, i agree they have buggered up the promo for this album (i would not blame her though, that comes down to her management and company plus label) but Guy Oseary did say that the album would be publicised over a year, it would not be a sudden burst. The best thing they can do right now is actually release a great single from the album that the critics like and fans are loving (Gang Bang, Love Spent, I'm Addicted)
And AnthVoice i did not realize that having a different opinion to you and sharing was being defensive

"i would not blame her though, that comes down to her management and company plus label"
Well, if that's true, her head really isn't in the game. Isn't her rep that she's totally Type A and signs off on EVERYTHING????"
I feel bad that I almost forgot this even came out. I haven't listened to it since that first week...
