I know there was a thread about this show when it premiered, but I'm surprised at how little talk this show gets here, or on other forums.
I was on the fence, until about half way through, but it's become my favorite show of the year. I'm not surprised that it has courted some strong movie directors and writers (I don't think much of Michael Cunningham's screenplay work, as much as I love him as a novelist, but I appreciated the script he did, barring from one embarrassing scene.) The last episode was amazing, I thought in how it dealt with so many characters and attitudes at once.
i wonder if some viewers were put off by the fact that the early episodes were so sexual (but in an actually tame way--and actually that bothers me about the show. It has a teasing title sequence, but has never been very sexually graphic, and annoyingly for a cable show written mostly by women--at least from my gay POV--has shied away from showing male nudity even cutting away before a gay male sex scene.) It still can be too obvious in its writing, but I really think it's become an amazing show.

Unfortunately I have never seen it but I am not surprised by the cut away before the nudity.
I've found the 10pm cable show called "Naked and Afraid" to be laughable because even in what they call "Naked and Afraid Uncensored" the scenes are always blurred!
Eric, I just read somewhere that last week's Masters of Sex had huge ratings. I think more and more people are discovering this great show. It's one of my favorites!

Watching it! Loving it.
The show and Michael Sheen were just nominated for a Golden Globe.
I loved the first couple of episodes of the show but have not gotten around to watching my recordings of the rest. I will, though, but probably not until January.
I'm glad others are watching and enjoying--and I had no idea about the GGs, but am pleased (though I would have given Lizzy a nomination as well, but the GGs tend to like actors who have won awards before...)
I do think the show has become stronger since it has focused less on the (again mainly female) nudity, so it's not that I necessarily think they should show more naked bits, but I do find it confusing that they aren't--if only for a ratings grab. In the UK they screen (granted late at night) gratuitous specials that claim to be educational about the lives of male strippers or sex advice that happily show everything but fully erect cocks--and that's not even basic cable.
I see naked bits in every episode.
Including full frontal from Allison Janney...
Well not in the last two episodes... Butyeah there's been (brief) full frontal female, a lot of breasts, and a few, early on, male backsides. I WANT MORE!
I'm watching! I think it's a great show. I think there is far more graphic sex scenes in Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones. Have you seen what those poor actors have to do on those shows? Yikes! (but I love both of those shows too!)
I think it's great, and with the Golden Globe nominations today, I'm sure more people will be watching. Lizzy Caplan is absolutely fantastic!
The cast isn't too old for you?
They ARE mature adults.

Lizzy Caplan does deserve a lot of recognition for her part in this show. She is a complex female character, and it is because her part is so well written and acted that the show works. Happy to hear the Globes gave it some attention.
Julianne Nicholson, an actress I have always liked, is equally brilliant. As is Caitlin Fitzgerald as Libby.
Diva, to whom are you referring to?
I'm watching and I love it!

Rutton Soss...
Much to my amazement, I agree whole-heartedly with Eric. We watch MASTERS religiously at my house and always on the first night, just as we do with DOWNTON ABBEY.
I am *shocked* that you would agree with me. Maybe I should make a Kiss of the Spiderwoman post...
Nah, Logan2 and I took that argument to PMs. We're arguing our way through the entire Kander and Ebb canon.

Back to MOS: I have very little patience for shows about spies or the mob. So we watch THE NEWSROOM and MOS even though we missed THE SOPRANOS and HOMELAND.

Amazing finale tonight. Lizzie Caplan is wonderful.
The season finale was terrific. Look forward to the next round.

I am reading the bio of Masters, and I actually love what they are "modifying" from the strictly biographical. Much more interesting with these minor adjustments to "the truth" (whatever that means).
I have them all recorded and at some point just going to do a big binge.
