Jesus. $10.00 for a ticket to Indiana Jones, a movie that doesn't deserve to cost half that much. Absolutely ridiculous.
Anyone else feel the same way about movie prices?
You're only paying $10?
Well after yesterday's rant about not wanting to have to work I can imagine any expense would be a bother.
As long as people keep paying, the powers that be will keep raising prices. If there was a weekend boycott nationwide, you would send shivers down the spines of the theater owners.
It will never happen so keep paying or do what we do - watch almost everything on video.
it's $9.50 a ticket at bowtie theaters.
I think it's around $12 around here now. I stopped going so I'm not sure.

Yeah it's $10 here and it sucks. I cannot go to the movies without buying stuff either(I have issues) so I spend so much when I go.
In the winter, wear coats with big pockets to stuff stuff in
In the summer, bring in a bag from a non food store & secrete some food in it. Most times, you can get away with it.
never go to the movies without my bag of bulk gummi worms from the TOP FOODS across the street, hiding in my bag
You have to sneak stuff in wisely.
There's one thing I miss about the movie theater-MOVIE POPCORN. And with that fake butter too!
When it is popped than & there it is great
Years ago, when the 42 nd street theaters played movies they used to bring out pre popped stuff that must have been there from the civil war. It tasted like cardboard. From that point on, I brought my own in.
my cousin pat and i walked right in past the movie theatre staff holding our orange julius cups and mall candy in full veiw and we were not stopped :)

I'm a member of the BAM Cinema Club and I pay $7. I'm to the opening of the Sundance Film Festival now.
The local theater near me just opened up again a couple of weeks ago, and they are charging $7. I really don't know how they expect to make money with only 2 screens. It had closed 2 or 3 times already.
Actually, if you go to a movie before a certain time, I think some theaters give discounts. One theater I went to charged $6 before 6pm. Another one did that, but also any shows before 1pm were only $4.50. However, this only applied during the week, and not the weekends.
it's $11 here for a regular movie. and IMAX is...I almost want to say $25, but I'm not completely sure.

Yup.
My solution: a HT system.
One Blu-ray disc costs less than going to the cinema when you consider transportation, parking, $5. popcorn, the ticket...
Time to build up a nice film library...
I try to go to matinees. They are generally cheaper.

I don't think the ticket prices are as ridiculous as the concession prices (which is where the chains actually make their money.)
And when push comes to shove, I'm more upset when I've spent 110 dollars for 90 intermissionless minutes of half-baked live theatre. Ten dollars I can write off more easily in my mind.

Agreed.
When you adjust for inflation, is ten bucks all that much for a movie?
My issues with going to the movies are less about the price and more about douchey people. Ten am on a Sunday seems to be the best time for me to go to a movie and keep my blood pressure in check.

So don't go. Rent all your movies or stay at home and download them. We're fast heading toward a country full of people sitting at home staring at little screens.
"So don't go"
I don't. I'm much happier and more comfortable on my couch with no one in front of me (I'm short and can never see in a theater), no one kicking my seat, no one talking through the movie, no one yelling across the theater to their friends, no one near me with perfume on, or BO, etc. You get the picture (pun intended).
and btw-I spend the better part of the day away from my couch and tv. I'm out in the morning and afternoon, enjoying nature. I work a few hours at night. Then I'm happy to come home and sit in front of the tv when I'm not working on my photographs.

"So don't go."
Best advice I can think of. No one sneezing on the back of my neck, talking so loud I can hardly follow the dialogue, no one spilling soda pop on my feet. Not having to be at a certain place at a certain time. Fitting the film to my schedule.
But this part is wrong:
"We're fast heading toward a country full of people sitting at home staring at little screens."
It should read:
We're fast heading toward a country full of people sitting at home admiring large high definition images with 5:1 or 7:1 high definition sound systems, with films looking and sounding better than at most commercial cinemas.
I'm glad folks are catching on.
$11.25 in the city, with the exception of Times Square which is $11.75. New York doesn't do matinee or student prices either. Ten years ago it was around $8.
They sell AMC movie tickets at Costco for $16 a pair. It's the gold one, so no exclusions. With the silver ones, you have to wait a week (or a weekend, I forget) after the movie opens before you can watch it.
Yeah, I guess in a way, I'm lucky that I don't have a movie theater less than 35 minutes away for me. Well, except for the $7 theater now. That sort of discourages me from going more often. I know, really lame reason. But let me say, when I had the 2 theaters so close to me in Scranton, one was actually in walking distance, I was there frequently. Did I need to go frequently? Absolutely not.
