hey students or anyone who's in the area, was that a sucide at Mercer and Waverly that I walked by about an hour ago? I thought I saw a body under a sheet where there were a lot of police and caution tape. just a little concerned.
It's been a whole semester and we've only had one suicide so we may be "due" for another. Not that that's a good thing.
I haven't heard anything yet, but sadly, I wouldn't be surprised. What dorm was it near?
Oh, that's so sad. I hope it was something else.
Well, a death's a death and certainly not good any way to take it.
It wasn't an NYU suicide. It was someone on Waverly. The ambulance couldn't find the apartment or something.
It was on Mercer St. right above Waverly. I don't know what dorm that is on the west side but the east side of the street is an apartment complex i believe.
Now that you mention it, the world is a bitch and all I feel is this pressure and I just can't take it anymore!!!!
just kidding
I am happy at NYU.
Someone once told me that a friend will talk you out of killing yourself and a good friend will help you write the note.

I don't think that is very funny. Actually, I don't think that is funny at all.
Anyway.
Bronx, you go to NYU?
Oh man....there were so many last year, it would be terrible for more!
There isn't a dorm at Mercer and Waverly - it's one of the NYU buildings, but I forget which one. I'm not attending NYU this year, though I did last year and had an amazing time.

I hate to say this, but as soon as I read the title of this thread I thought, "Another one?" How awful.
A friend who likes unPC jokes told me that.
Yes, I go to NYU.
I actually witnessed the last NYU suicide back in Sept and was interviewed by the Times. It was not a pretty sight. I didn't know spraying blood off the street into the sewer was so practical. You never know what is floating under our feet.
Yeah, we get a lot of suicides. I think many incoming freshman are cancelling their life insurance. I think you get a discount if you are in NYU. Sorry, I will try to stop the jokes.
Why so many suicides at NYU? Do they teach them that there is nothing more to life than a college course? Are kids that stupid that they cannot see beyond the here and now or that there are other things they could do? Is it drug problems? Or is it something in the cafeteria food?
Did you go to college, Matt?

"Is it drug problems?"
That would be my guess.
One of the guys who jumped in the library last year was a diver who was on shrooms. He jumped into the lobby because he thought he was diving into a giant pool.

There doesnt seem to be much of a link in the various suicides NYU has had. Two were drug related, one was a girl already seeing a psych. Two were really before school kicked in, one was off campus. The only apparent link might be that once they saw one kid do it successfully, it proved their plans possible.

That library is rather terrifying, but other than the fact that it seems to provide an easy means to jump (like the bridge at Cornell), I don't think there's anything in particular about NYU that makes it suicide-prone. What most people forget about randomly occurring events is that sometimes they cluster.
popcultureboy - I did go to college. Two of them, as a matter of fact, one from 88-90 and one from 98-01 and suicides were something of a rarity in both cases. Why do you ask?
How awful, if it was an NYU suicide. My brother's friend (yep, I know I sound like the girl from Ferris Beuller) lost his NYU roommate to a library suicide two years ago.
