"Please tell me what the government is going to do to Disney if they did not get rid of Kimmel's show."
Let’s make sure everyone understands the facts with Kimmel.
As the right is trying to paint this as “at-will” termination.
-Nextar the parent company of Kimmel’s show is seeking FCC approval for a merger.
-Kimmel made comments about Trump on Monday night (months after Trump openly said he wanted to get Kimmel fired next)
-Reporting is that Trump had the FCC lean on Nextar over these comments.
-Apparently they expressly used the line “we can do this the easy way, or the hard way”
-Multiple executives at the network have on background said they “had no issue with Kimmel’s statements but the Trump threat loomed” referring to the merger.
This was *NOT* a network dissatisfied with Kimmel.
This was *NOT* a network embarrassed or horrified by what Kimmel said.
This was *NOT* a network that thought he was unfunny, or underperforming.
This was *NOT* a company freely choosing to fire an employee.
This was expressly the federal government weaponizing federal departments, in retribution for someone being critical of the President.
This is LITERALLY what the 1st Amendment exists for.
It does not protect you from private actions by private entities.
It protects you from actions by the government to censor your speech.
Whether brazen and direct, or through coercion and threat.
This is not about if Kimmel was offensive or not.
This is about speech
The FCC has no authority over FoxNews because it is cable/streaming. ABC uses airwaves (well the affiliates do) and those airwaves are leased from the government.
Kimmel said nothing about Kirk. He called out the government/MAGA using the murder for the government’s purposes and absolving themselves. The FCC threats were retaliation.
and MAGA did not know what Kimmel said (ir rather did not say) because MAGA does not watch Kimmel. ABC had nothing to fear in terms of lower ratings from insulting MAGA. It was Nextstar and Sinclair threats to not air programming that would affect ratings.

Somewhat tangential, but a useful primer on hate speech and associated legal issues in this NYT article (gift link).
And this from the Washington Post:
"Trump, allies seek to punish speech they dislike following Kirk killing
Administration officials promise actions against critics in break with past GOP rhetoric defending free speech, probably drawing legal challenges."
From an outsider looking in, your country is f*cked. Seriously F*cked. It’s seems perfectly fine to say the most vile repugnant things about Biden getting cancer. But some radical racist mouthpiece, that Trump mourned for a whole minute, look at my beautiful ballroom has caused you to become the newest version of nazi germany 2025.
That’s the only thing I’ll ever say on all of this.

Yes, because it's always, always a projection. Maga always accuses the democrats of what their ilk is guilty of themselves. That rule works every time. They are trying very hard to protect trump against what they know he's guilty of.
This is a wonderful and life saving development, given the state of the radical left at the moment. The oil needs to be taken out of the indoctrination-engine.
The Fox & Friends host who suggested lethal injection on mentally ill homeless people (“just kill ‘em 🤷♂️”) was given the opportunity to make a public apology. Kimmel is straight up fired.

Why are you, maga pedophile protectors are so fundamentally un-American?

I think respectful and open debates, starting the dialogue between opposing groups is pro-american. I fundamentally think that America should be that way.
Silencing someone by murder is not part of that. Teaching this to people who don't understand this is a valuable lesson.

Violent maga silencing and disappearing people is none of those things. And why do you keep protecting and worshipping a pedophile? Answer the question.

I would appreciate it if you were less violent in your wordings. And more truthful.

If only you held the President of the United States of America to the same standard.

Words of truth are now violence to maga. Respectfully, answer the question.

Wait, are you now actually comparing "educating someone" to "slaughtering someone"?
Wow.

I am. But there is no comparison, as I have explained.

Did you bother reading my replies to you? I haven't made any statement or expressed the opinion here on the assassination. With all due respect, please, answer the question why do you keep protecting and worshipping a pedophile? Also, why do you avoid answering a direct question?

Why are you making no statement/not expressing any opinion on the slaughtering but are you making so many passionate statements against educating people?
And the answer to your question is: No, I don't. I look at facts per case.

The fact is that the president is a pedophile. Another fact is that maga is trying to cover this up at the expense of this entire country, harming every person's existence. You still support him and his authoritarian methods, which makes you one of them.

I asked you something.
Average Americans are losing their jobs now if they post something negative or say something about Dumpster or criticize Kirk's death. Coworkers are doxing their fellow coworkers. Free speech is officially gone in this country. This is Project 2025 in full force. We are in a full, authoritarian dictatorship. Brace yourself.

slight correction
Nazi Germany got their ideas from the US of A. Jim Crow, reconstruction, etc.
America isn’t turning into Nazi germany. 1930s Germany turned into America

I’m only seeing Seb’s comments because others are quoting them (the block feature is lovely, but when are the mods going to do their jobs?).
Report this account incessantly.
Don’t even engage. It’s not worth it.
They need help. Horrifying behavior that doesn’t even dignify a response or direct interaction.

I have 3 questions. 1.Why are people writing essays about why they are reading my posts? You don't have to be ashamed of engaging in proper content-related discussions. You don't have to lie about blocking and the fact that you like reading them. 2. What is this obsession of wanting to eliminate debating partners? Because I have seen the same thing being told to many others on here. And unfortunately I have seen this in other situations too. 3. Can you stop attacking people with personal remarks?
The important details missing in this conversation:
• Head of FCC (Brendan Carr) is Trump-appointed MAGA
• Nexstar Media Group is merging with Tegna in a deal valued at $6.2 billion, which will significantly expand Nexstar's reach in local television markets across the U.S. The merger is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to close by mid-2026
• Nexstar needs FCC approval to move forward with merger
• The American Broadcasting Company (ABC) operates under licenses issued to its individual affiliate stations by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC)
• Carr has strong-armed Nexstar by threatening to pull ABC’s licenses, as well as not grant approval for the merger.
I believe it is not a good idea to CXL your support of Disney or ABC. That is exactly what Trump wants (elimination of media resources).
Colbert is planning to have Kimmel as a guest on his show in the near future. How can you stay informed if you cancel Disney and/or ABC? (keeping in mind that the choice was made under threat from Carr)
Is it more important for the US public to CXL a media source in our current times? Disney/ABC didn't CXL Kimmel. As frustrating and maddening as the situation is, Carr (the FCC) bullied them into it.
That's just business. You can't want to be part of a merger and then kick the company you want something from against the knees. You either adjust and be part of the merger or you don't and stay small. The choice is completely their own.
