I think we know what Jane Lynch's 'For Your Consideration' Emmy episode is going to be this year.
Aside from the funeral, I hated Finn last night. I found myself siding with Jesse in his critiques and disputes about Finn.
I also found some of the references to the pilot to be a bit too much lip service and often a little forced ie Will responding to Mercedes' killer number that had some painful dialogue.
Up until last night, I thought Lynch had no chance for a repeat Emmy. Her role has been smaller, and asked little of her beyond what we saw last season. I think the Emmys still judge based on individual episodes, so last night's changed all that.
That said, a couple of other thoughts: they really do need to let Kurt sing a 'male' song. And they need to let Rachel sing a Streisand song without it being a total imitation.

Back to the Emmys, I really hope Naya Rivera and Heather Morris send in something because it felt like a lot of the time their characters filled in the Sue void and their performances in certain episodes were funny and excellent (especially in Naya's case).
I like have Jesse back but dont bring him back and get me invested if hes not going to be back next year!!!
Terri going to Miami doesnt make sense if they reported like a month ago that she is supposed to be in a lot of episodes next season, but yay for a Howard Bamboo cameo!

Maybe I'm a little heartless, but I was disappointed how the death on Glee was so hyped up from the tv insiders, but it only ended up being Sue's sister. It was sad and so was her funeral, but she was in like 2 episodes for 2 seconds. I guess I just expected bigger.

First of all, CHEERS to the creative team for giving Santana a solo. Rachel and Kurt solos in every show are getting tiresome and I'm glad to see they let someone else in there.
I really think that bringing Jesse back was an extremely stupid plot point. Would Mr. Shu really bring in a consultant this close to nationals?
Stop with Kurt singing the Patti LuPone songbook. No more Gypsy, no more Evita. A real teacher would push Kurt to sing songs beyond what they want to sing.
And speaking of Gypsy, how could they leave off Angela Lansbury? In Shu's line about the song was sung by "Merman, LuPone and Peters" It is universally agreed on that Lansbury brought a different interpretation to the role and I think she should have been acknowledged before LuPone or Peters.
They are going to have to have better writing for Sue's character. All she does is get nasty, then repent, get nasty, then repent. Her character will be a joke by the time Season 3 rolls around.
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.
Was the "Merman, LuPone, and Bernadette" line Shu's or Jesse's? If it was Shu's, your point is well taken. If it's Jesse's, then leaving Lansbury out is reasonable.

Why is it reasonable for Jesse to leave out Lansbury?

He wasn't alive for Merman's performance, but he mentioned her.

^That's common knowledge. Even people who don't know that much about musical theater know that Merman originated Mama Rose. And for the record, he left out Tyne Daly, too, for the same reason he left Lansbury out.
Deadline.com is reporting that Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (yes, he of the Spiderman book rewrite) is coming in as a co-producer and writer for the show. Glad they got an outsider (though I think it has more to do with Ryan Murphy working on his new series on FX than the he, Ian Brennan, or Brad Falchuk giving a mea culpa about the writing this season).
Am I the only one who thought that episode was pretty horrific? The writing was horrible, the original songs were horrible. The fact that they were writing their songs a day before the competition and that was supposed to be acceptable made it nearly impossible for me to enjoy the episode. What a disappointing end to a rather disappointing season.
"Blow out the candles, Robert, and make a wish. Want something. Want something."
^^^^^ Well, at least they did not place. So they were not rewarded.
I thought this episode was fine (and honestly the last few episodes leading up to this had more obviously bad writing) but I could see the disappointment in it being a finale and all. This did not seem as messy. It did lack some jolt, then again nobody was giving birth and singing numbers from Journey or Queen in the finale.
I did enjoy that Patti LuPone was just herself and Cheyenne got some good zingers in his appearance. Charise, who I hated in her appearances, really made up for it in my book.
I always thought the Jesse thing this season was way too shoe-horned to begin with and Quinn's whole secret plot disappeared much like her storylines going back to season 1. I did like that Rachel finally became aware of Finn's limitations. I almost do not even care if they are together or not, though I hate them as a couple, but Finn does need to find his calling (especially when two girlfriends know/fear exactly what he could be falling into not too long in the future).
I enjoyed "For Good" despite the cheese factor involved.
Glad Santana and Brittany had a talk but I really hope Santana's character gets just as fleshed out as next season. If not a lot of people, me included, are going to be pissed at Ryan Murphy for not letting Santana come out and have storylines relating to her sexuality when he was pretty much projecting through Kurt (and Kurt is my favorite character and I think Chris Colfer delivered an Emmy season no matter the material).
**SPOILERS** Guess, that reality show was not for Mercedes' boyfriend after all. I am sort of glad for both her and Sam but I hope they do not get pushed into the background the way other couples who were not Blaine, Kurt, Rachel or Finn got treated in most episodes.
Actually, I thought some of the writing was pretty funny:
Kurt: "I can get Ahi tartar and a steak from room service. I feel like Eloise." Brittney: "I have pills for that."
Goolsby: "My kids are at least attractive. Your kids look like they haven't been baked properly."
Jessie: "...[the judges] will think you're common and vulgar and it cost you Nationals. Hi Rachel, you look amazing but you just shouldn't have kissed him."
Even though I usually dig Jonathan Groff, he plays such a slime on this show, and clearly is way too old to play a 20-year-old college drop-out (yet does a good job at it, really, because he's an actor who's so likeable, *except* when playing this guy). But he didn't miss a beat with his little jealous speech, and it came off...funny. For playing a jock who's been a ninny all season, Cory Monteith finally gives Finn some swagger when he steps into the frame and tells him to back off. (Even his "it was the Superman of kisses...it came with its own cape" was cute. And yeah, corny. So?)
Even Patti LuPone's cameo wasn't over-done, and her "...he's cute" at Sardi's was cute.
May I also say, I like how confident Blaine is, within himself. He just gazes at Kurt and un-apologetically says "I love you." And Kurt, instead of freaking out, returns the sentiment. Agreed--Chris Colfer is doing an excellent job. Between him and Kurt, and Finn and Rachel (or Quinn and Finn, whatever), there are a lot of "love" confessions on this show, and that's not really typical for high-schoolers to be able to express. Not sure if I'm annoyed at that, or pleased that TV is trying to influence the way teens speak to each other. ("Dawson's Creek" sort of did the same thing, but I'm not sure how well it worked in reality!)
Question to Strummergirl: What do you mean, Finn must find his calling though he's had two girlfriends who have realized what he'll be "falling into" before too long? True, I didn't watch last season and missed some of the first half of this one, but the only implication is that Finn is a small-town jock who might wind up staying in Ohio after graduation. Yet in the glee club, he shines and clearly has more layers to him, so who's to predict where any of these kids could wind up.
Also, side-note: In the final scene, in the background, did anyone notice how Quinn goes "hiya!" to Finn, playfully slaps him, and brings him into the group for the meeting? She was seething at him a day before, but suddenly she's palling around with him? Small thing, but I noticed. And though I'm sick of her selfish seething, it played weird considering their storyline.)
It's also annoying that most of them are in their mid- to late-20s and are playing people 10 years younger, but then again, "Fame" did the same thing in my day, so it just is what it is, I guess. Guilty pleasure for this 30-something ex-theatre kid, so of course I'll keep watching!
"There is no use trying," said Alice; "one can't believe impossible things." "I dare say you haven't had the practice," said the Queen. "When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast." --Alice in Wonderland
The episode should have been 2 hours. Why? Because the pacing was ALL off. As quickly as plot points were revealed, they were settled. Quinn's "sabotage" plan/breakdown; Shue's broadway audition and deciding to stay; Finn and Rachel's date (no kiss) then shortly thereafter - the "superman of kisses." No follow up either - like Kurt's reaction to Rachel meeting LuPone? I think we would have liked to have seen that conversation. And quite frankly - nothing at the end of the episode was intriguing enough to go "ooh.. I wonder what will happen next season" Which is surprising as Ryan Murphy is great at cliffhangers, etc.

There definitely felt like there was footage cut. Last week's episode also had stuff cut that were in its previews.

Rachel was almost being polite saying Finn's too much of a homebody to leave Ohio. Quinn basically told Rachel she just expected stay with him in Ohio and be miserable, with Finn inheriting his stepdad's car shop and living in suburbia with 2.5 kids. Finn also comes off incredibly dumb at times, as dumb as Brittany in certain episodes. So I sort of sided with Quinn on believing he would just fall into a blue-collar job that's already set up for him through family but I was surprised that Rachel, who always believed in Finn, would say that him coming with her to New York is a bit unrealistic. I do hope next season they show the group in the college process and I hope it is somewhat realistic to how the kids have appeared academically.
ehhhhh... not good enough for a season finale. I agree with Craig, the pacing was wayyyyy off and too fast.
**spoilers** Totally disappointed in the Will going to broadway, Will staying with his kids change of heart moment.... again. Done too many times, way too rushed, with no investment.
I also didn't like most of the songs picked for this episode. I thought "For Good" was cute but I am sorta so sick of Rachel/Kurt. Love Blaine! Wonder what role he'll have next season.
The Mercedes/Sam thing.... ehhhhh. I think she should have a boyfriend, but someone outside the club. But then again, I like her voice but don't really like the character overall.
Cheyenne was adorable as usual. Love Groff, I wish they can have him stay on more, but his character has gone too far over the rails in the past few episodes.
