What a wasted opportunity. These kids are in New York City, probably for the first time, and the writers squander this time with a stupid romance between Finn and Rachel.
Here you have Rachel wanting to be on Broadway. Wouldn't it have been interesting to have a scene where she discovers "Backstage" paper and reads audition ads, maybe even sneaks away to audition for an off-Broadway show. That is part of what fuels the dreams of actors. I know that it's not as dramatic as breaking into a theater and singing on stage, but it would have been more realistic.
The Sardis scene was a stale cliche and Patti LuPone was completely wasted.
I know that this show deals in a lot of non-realities, but what school is going to allow a group of high school kids to be without chaperones in NYC? And what teacher just walks off and leaves a bunch of teenagers? Lawsuit anyone?
And students interested in the performing arts go to NYC and don't see a Broadway show? And Rachel's "Cats" tickets situation goes way beyond stupid. She didn't know "Cats" had closed on Broadway?

I enjoyed it. Their Regionals songs were better, in my opinion. I still have not changed my mind about Jesse being a jerk. Maybe I missed the transition, but they certainly made Rachel and Kurt outside of Tiffany's look like the Gershwin Theatre was smack next to it.
Brittany's song made me laugh though.

Yeah, I do agree with the thing about Rachel not knowing "Cats" had closed being rather unlikely, considering how plugged in she is to all things Broadway. That was lame. And there were definitely flaws in the episode, considering it was a season finale, per everyone else's observations.
To clarify: My comments were only spurred on by someone's post about being disappointed with the writing. I laughed out loud at several points, unexpectedly, so I thought that was worth mentioning. :)

Especially since Grizabella is probably on her radar as a future role for her to play.

I am just a nasty bitch, I suppose, but why is Lauren on the show? Couldn't they find a big girl to play the role who could sing or dance? I am assuming there's no vocal skill. She's never had any teeny solo. She obviously has no real rhythm.
I am only a few minutes into the show.
Pretty pretty please don't you ever ever feel like you're less than f**ckin' perfect!
I think she was an extra on one of the early episodes. They needed someone who could play snarky and "evil" and add a little conflict and so they bumped her up to the role of Lauren.
She did get one solo song: I Know What Girls Want
But I'm wondering if they originally intended Amber Riley to take on that role and it just didn't work out. Because what's the purpose of having two fat girls with attitude?

You're not a bitch, Jersey, cause that would make me one too.
She's basically there for one-liners and filling out the required 12 members of the glee club. I'm more annoyed that Ashley Fink garbles half her dialogue than anything else.
She does have some comic talent but the character is little more than window dressing 90 percent of the time...it's like why bother?
lauren already appeared in a few episodes in S1 - girl in the sad loser women clubs in "Hello", AV leader in Bad Reputation, one of the twilight girls in the Theatricality that I can think of immediately, so she was already a bit player.
i didnt mind her character being added more at first this season but yeah, it's useless now.
BroadwayBoobs: I'll give all of you who weren't there a hint of who took the pictures ...it rhymes with shameless
I think it's distracting in the performances because suddenly there's this person who can't dance. They make jokes about Mike not singing, but he dances his ass off. They put Lauren in with the other girls, and she's just bouncing back and forth doing a fist pump. I get embarrassed for her and that makes it unwatchable.
And I Know What Boys Want was just tone deaf speaking, really.
Pretty pretty please don't you ever ever feel like you're less than f**ckin' perfect!
And maybe because Lauren isn't good is one of the reasons they lost and didn't place higher in Nationals. Probably not, but we can pretend.
And whoever mentioned the kids going off by themselves without chaperones, it was a little unrealistic obviously, but on my field trips in high school, we never went off with adults. we were expected to check in with them at certain times and locations during the day, but that was about it. I'm not just talking about day trips either. There was a yearly band or choir trip that was a whole weekend.

Not everyone is a given to be on New Directions the next season let alone being cast as a regular for next season. Lauren could just move on to be a side-player and not a performer (I thought the performance was purposely off because she was nervous and imagining everybody in their underwear). There were rumors of Blaine going to McKinley but that is too convenient so maybe the reality show is for a serious spot and not a Sunshine Corazon character. What would be great is if Karofsky (another character I want to see more of) joined New Directions and since the group made the bare minimum, it is possible that another character is added for the sake of good dramatic effect.
The season finale actually came a week late. 'Born This Way' was pushed back which extended its brief hiatus because there were certain additions to that episode. Fox making Idol the lead-in and pushing it to 9 o'clock, when Fox always goes to the local news at 10 pm, made me think originally this was going to be an extended finale but was cut down. I am sure there is going to an extended cut on DVD with maybe a bigger sub-plot involving Quinn, that also includes the cut scenes from previous episodes. There also may have been re-shoots to work on the continuity involving Quinn's haircut and the nationals performances that sort of caused a little more incoherence. I am also interested in where that Cross Rhodes sub-plot went. Was Chenoweth busy?
I know people are surprised by Quinn's behavior in the glee club room around Finn and Rachel at the end (she does need to get over it and I am a Quinn fan) but there are a lot of times characters hate each other but act different, a la Rachel being supportive of Santana during the 'Valerie' number episodes back. They screamed at each other in the green room but then we see Rachel patting Santana on the back in support when she tears the song a new one. That happens quite a bit on the show but I guess since those three characters were the melo-dramatic core of the show there are always expectations that they need to interact differently.
the episode was decent... i laughed a couple of times...
if anything... this episode REALLY REALLY REALLY made me miss New York badly... I haven't been in almost five years... I just want to go right now darnit!
Anyone else amused at the absurdity of them breaking into, of all theatres, the Gershwin!? The auditorium of that is not right by the lobby doors, you'd have to walk up several staircases, past several levels of security before finally getting into the auditorium. I thought they were going to show a scene of them somehow worming/flattering/bribing their way through the stage door, but no, apparently they can just walk right in and upstairs onto the stage. Okay...
My cousin, who is a big "Glee" fan, went to netflix to download some episodes of old tv shows and when she watching an 1994 episode of "Power Rangers" she thought she saw Matthew Morrison as a student. I looked up the episode on youtube and I think it could be him. Look at the video from 7:49 to 7:53. Is that him?
"EXCLUSIVE: It’s a case of good news/bad news for Glee fans courtesy of Ryan Murphy. First the good: Darren Criss (Blaine) and Harry Shum Jr. (Mike) have officially been upgraded to full-time series regulars, effective this fall with the start of Season 3. And now for the bad… Chord Overstreet’s series regular option has not been picked up. However, a source close to the show says the actor — who joined the Fox hit last fall in the recurring role of McKinley transfer student Sam Evans — could return as an occasional guest star."
Strangely, that news doesn't upset me too much. Never was a fan of Sam.

I agree though it will be sort of cheap to make Blaine in the Glee club if they are phasing Sam out for him. That said, at least there is a top-notch male vocalist in New Directions if that is the path they take.
Blaine irritates me. And what they turned Sam into after his initial episodes made me irritate him. But I like Chord and I'll miss seeing his body every week.
Can't say I'm too bothered by Chord Overstreet leaving, his character never really interested me and he can hardly sing. Apparently Ashley Fink might be leaving too though...
Quite excited to see Blaine with New Directions and hopefully more duets with Kurt or Rachel.
I love Blaine, and the Kurt/Blaine relationship, so yay for Darren being a regular and Blaine (presumably) transferring
Sad to see Chord go, though, if it really is that he's legit been dropped I don't even get why they would do that- they gave Sam quite a bit of story arc particularly in the last few episodes, and now he's just going to be leaving? It doesn't make sense! And it's not like Chord didn't go over well with the audience- I think most people quite enjoyed Sam at least toward the end.. so yeah.. weird :/
But my Darren fangirling self is very happy
I don't need a life that's normal. That's way too far away. But something next to normal would be okay. Something next to normal is what I'd like to try. Close enough to normal to get by.
When I saw Glee Live they flashed the characters (along with quotes) on screen before the show started, and Sam always got a louder cheer than the others, so it was a surprise to me that he was dropped. It was hard to gauge a reaction for the actual show though, seeing as he had so little to do. Pity, as I loved his 'Baby'.
Maybe he will be missed more than people might anticipate, paving the way for a glorious comeback later in the season...at least, I hope so!
