Posted: 2/20/14 at 9:54amI'm feeling better about Sarah Hughes right now, LOL. I just watched her analyze the ladies short program and she was critical of Ashley Wagner's two-footed landing on the triple triple jump. She said it was poor training.

'I will always have respect for Michele Kwan for her longevity and staying on top for as long as she did. The only one of our two most recent Olympic gold medal winners who actually skated to defend a title.'
Dottie, I'm having trouble figuring this sentence out. Are you talking about Kwan defending an Olympic gold? Cause she has never won one. She has a silver and a bronze.

^No, I meant that Michele skated and defended her national and world titles, whereas when both Tara and Sarah won their Olympic golds, they more or less hung up their skates.
[edit] OK, after doing some research (as I couldn't remember), Tara Lipinski was the World Gold medalist going into the '98 Olympics. Sarah Hughes won the silver medal in the 2003 nationals and placed 6th at world's that year.
Oh and to the British skater who has been their national champion for 11 years and didn't even qualify for the long program. Time to hang it up!

Posted: 2/20/14 at 10:42amOMG the Bielmann video! That is incredible. That music annoys the hell out of me and it was a little distracting (to me) but there is no denying that woman's talent and stamina!

^ yup. You see the very young skaters visibly tiring towards the end of their programs. She had all the same energy from start to finish. At 31 years old.
I liked the music, as it was fitting for the program, I thought.

Posted: 2/20/14 at 2:38pmI thought the Russian was way overscored in the short (actually both of them). Oh well.

"Oh well given the topic I assumed there were already spoilers in this"
Oh well because it's about the olympics doesn't mean it's about spoiling the outcomes of the games for others.

Posted: 2/20/14 at 2:55pmLaurenB-I thought the same thing. I understand the reason behind deductions for Ashley Wagner, but I feel in a way she was underscored, given some of the comments on others from Johnny and Tara.

Well, that was quite rude. Maybe if you had actually READ the thread, you'd know there weren't spoilers.

Posted: 2/20/14 at 4:14pmThat's the reason why to this day I can't stand Meredith Viera. It was during the '98 Olympics that she announced on the View that Tara Lipinski had beaten Michele Kwan for the gold medal. My reaction was, "you f'in bitch". There wasn't any warning, she just blurted it out. Done purposefully no less, since the Olympics were airing on NBC.

Posted: 2/20/14 at 11:33pmI was mad when Garacie Gold fell because that meant we had another Olympics without even a Bronze Medal for the Ladies Figure Skating. It is not easy for someone who saw Yamaguchi, Kerrigan, Lipinksi, Kwan, Hughes, and Cohen on the podium with any kind of medal to watch this. For this to happen two Olympics in row makes me frustrated.

Posted: 2/21/14 at 12:00am^even if Gracie didn't fall, she wouldn't have medaled - the top three were unbeatable. It's a shame, really, I think Gracie is an exceptional skater. Here's to hoping that the US women are able make a better showing in four years!

NBCSN isn't airing it (at least in my area); I've got biathlon and skiing instead. If anyone else has this problem, the NBC Olympics site is livestreaming it. Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir just finished; Adelina is skating now, and Meryl Davis and Charlie White have not yet been on.
