I've come to find Blanchett's acting so mannered, that it doesn't bother me that Paltrow won (and I'm not much of a Paltrow fan).

What Our Lady of GOOP had going for her was an absolutely brilliant Oscar campaign. I worked in entertainment PR at the time, and I remember her 'For Your Consideration' ad. It had four stills of her as her four different 'characters': her female self, the boy she disguised herself as, Romeo and Juliet. I was like, 'Shooz...this bitch gonna win.' And she did.

I can't even discuss the whole Helen Hunt awfulness. I will say that one of the biggest Oscar robberies was Lisa Kudrow now getting nominated (let alone winning) for The Opposite of Sex.

Goin' farther back: Ingrid Bergman for AUTUMN SONATA over Jane Fonda for COMING HOME. Richard Burton for EQUUS over Richard Dreyfuss for THE GOODBYE GIRL

Then there are folks who weren't even nominated like Treat Williams in PRINCE OF THE CITY.

An endless list that can go back to the first Oscars.

My three biggest:

1. Cate Blanchett over Gwyneth Paltrow. I loved Shakespeare in Love and thought she was good, but Blanchett WAS Elizabeth. She was incredible.
2. Lynn Redgrave over Judi Dench (I think that was Gods and Monsters-she was absolutely incredible in that role)
3. Leo for Gilbert Grape-best performance he ever gave. (Maybe he'll beat out Tommy Lee Jones this year-but don't count on it.)

I also loved Leo in Gilbert Grape. But it was Johnny Depp who broke my heart. What a terrific movie.

Jane Horrocks wasn't even nominated for Little Voice, and I thought she was phenomenal!

Felicity Huffman for Transamerica over Reese for Walk the Line.

Also, Joan Allen should have been nominated that same year for The Upside of Anger over either Keira Knightley or Charlize theron.

If the world was fair, Joan Allen would have Oscars already for THE CRUCIBLE, THE ICE STORM, NIXON, THE CONTENDER & THE UPSIDE OF ANGER. Oh, hell give her another one for FACE/OFF just to make it an even number.

The failure of the Academy to even nominate Allen for The Upside of Anger is absurd. She was also excellent in Bourne.

The fact that The Ice Storm didn't receive a single nomination still baffles and angers me.

The last scene of Sigourney Weaver where she's laying in the bed fully clothed just looking at...nothing is some of the greatest acting I've ever seen. A few years ago I had the chance to talk with her about the film and after being shocked that I thought it was one of the greatest things ever put onto film, she talked and talked and talked about the process of making it. It was incredible.

I feel like every nominee had a case against Jack Lemmon winning for Save the Tiger. Brando (who probably made enemies for what he did the year before) with Last Tango in Paris, Nicholson in The Last Detail, Pacino in Serpico, and Redford in The Sting.

And I am surprised that the Ice Storm got nothing. I feel like if it was made a decade later it would be showered with Oscars.

Judy Parfitt should have won multiple awards for her supporting performance in Dolores Claiborne, and I couldn't find a single recognition for her.

I Agree strummergirl, Denzel over Pacino & Anne Hathaway Over Kate Winslet. Denzel's performance was just.. Amazing. As Well as Anne's.

What about Colin Firth Winning best actor for The King's Speech over James Franco in 127 hours. I seen both I'm kinda undecided. But i have seen blogs saying James Franco Deserved it more.????

Firth's role was clearly Oscar bait, but I think he was deserving.

Murray should've won over Penn.

And yeah, Firth was deserving. In my opinion, the only award that The King's Speech deserved was for his performance.
