America is more like "you can get it when you need it, if you can afford it."
"I choose to associate myself with people who have done some thing with their lives and don't live off the government for assistance."
So you've never hung out with people on Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, were raised on food stamps or public housing that again had nothing to do with them individually, mortgage, got federal student loans/aid, were on the GI Bill (I mean, why didn't your grandfather just STAY in the military), got a nice discount for being a veteran at the local commissary, or VA assistance?
EDIT: Also what of the people who were under government assistance and DID do something with their lives? Does that make their accomplishments lesser? My mother and her family were on welfare. She and a sibling graduated from Cornell but naw, they're a bunch of moochers. Paul Ryan is a TEA Party icon, family was up the wazoo in gov't assistance that helped get his way through college.

Her poor grandfather, once she found out, she never talked to him again. RIP, gramps!
(I mean no disrespect if he's still alive. For the sake of the joke, he has to be dead.)

I hope she' s never read (well of course she hasn't) a Harry Potter book or seen any of the movies.
Strummergirl, you can add to that, bought a home and took out a mortgage as well. I think Fanny Mae is government assistance.
Abby you surround yourself who visit your parents! What a smug little child.
Because JK lived off government assistance while writing the first draft?
Well, let me just tell you, Namo, that the government wrote Harry Potter. The government did that! Not JK!
I have talked to franchise owners and owners of other very successful businesses and they're all going to be hurt tremendously by this.
No, dear. No, you have not.
Pal Joey, I am just going to have to steal that!
SNAFU, I was actually going to add more stuff and that did come to mind.
Also, the only people who could possibly know more than one local franchise owner is another franchise owner or a person in local gov't/politics who needs those contacts for area business development.
It must suck walking every where because the government built the roads.
And she can't ever camp or enjoy public parks. So... I hope you never went to the Grand Canyon or Yosemite or even Mount Rushmore! She couldn't ever watch a football game at my high school football stadium because it was built by the CCC. High school would've sucked for her.
Oh puhleese! I mean people who choose not to work or have completely given up looking for work and live on welfare. I see it everyday when I go to the grocery store. 90% of the time there is someone ahead of me using an Oregon trail card (the form of food stamps in my state) and they almost always have a really expensive phone and go out to their very expensive car. Not all the time, but i see it more often than not. They don't NEED food stamps, but they WANT them so they can afford to have more luxurious things. I'm not against welfare if you're having a hard time temporarily, but when you go on it and are on it your entire lives like so many people are these days, that makes no sense! And the people who go to school on the GI bill, they earned it, they worked for it, it's the people who graduate from high school and immediatly go on welfare, that's what so many people who I went to high school with did, and it's sickening.
And jungle reds comment about criminal justice being a sketchy major or whatever is total BS I went to a very good school taught by some of the best retired NYPD officers, not from a sketchy online school.
Keep piling it on! Keep piling it on!

Mind giving the name of this school? I mean you throw out a lot of vague things, but are never specific about anything...

Even the things she's specific about are vague:
"I see it everyday when I go to the grocery store. .... Not all the time, but i see it more often than not."
So it seems she spends a HUGE amount of time at the grocery store and following and watching people she thinks are using food stamps and then goes and talks with the largest cadre of franchise owners this side of an exhibit hall.
St. John's University in Queens, where many NYPD cops graduated including I believe the current police commissioner. I could be wrong about that though.
I posted my opinion.
I used to live in a very nice apartment, but to get there, I had to go through two projects. The problem with these projects is that there's a limit to how much a family was charged for rent. So, they could make enough to pay rent, food, bills, and still pay for that Escalade. And it was completely legal because SFHA couldn't kick them out. It's a corrupt system for sure, and I have no idea how to fix it.
You have any idea how hard it is to qualify for food stamps or welfare? How poor? Dirt poor. Even in those supposed 'free-loader' welfare period my grandmother, screwed out of alimony, had to work three jobs. The welfare and food stamps were hardly enough and she luckily had a great church community (and not even the kind of church community that can be celebrated by the right, I'm talking Liberation theology, let's spend the summers in a commune kind of church community) and kids willing to be the keepers of their young siblings in addition to working their own jobs. My mother, my grandmother, and her siblings are not really nostalgic for that period in their lives.
What luxurious things??????? Gov't cheese was not exactly a great commodity. I was actually heartened to know that some local green markets in my area accepted food stamps knowing what exactly my mother and her siblings had to eat from food stamps. Your living off the great lie by Ronald Reagan that the welfare system was made of up moochers, mostly black, who gamed the system to somehow get a Cadillac. It's racist, it's classist, it's vile, and I am sick and tired of your views but it is great to know that your poisoned, easily manipulated mind is the future of the GOP.

Yeah, there's people who abuse welfare, but not to that level. That is a load of bull. You do not get enough in welfare to be out buying extravagance. I see people with benefits cards in their wallets every single day. They are not rolling up in classy cars. They've got the mini vans, the rusted out clunkers. They very little income, they have food stamps that you can only use and verified places, some get cash assistance, but it's still not that much. I'm sure if you pull up their credit like almost any dealership they'd be denied.
Good Heavens! Are you Kids still up? Have you been playing with your Troll all this time?
Enough!
Brush your teeth, wash your faces and get ready for bed. Tomorrow's a big day--don't let me see you playing with that troll again tonight.

but that's why you should be happy with the ACA, and why it couldn't be more obvious that it comes from right wing think tanks. instead of spending what money they have on the latest gadgets and sleekest cars, the individual mandate says they should take responsibility and use some of that money for health insurance instead.
Wow. Being a pizza delivery guy is actually pretty similar to being a cab driver. Actually, that isn't surprising though equally infuriating.
The difference between pizza drivers and cab drivers, at least in San Francisco, is that the cab drivers are basically franchise operators. They may drive for Yellow or Luxor or whatever, but at the end of the day, they get to keep more than the tips.
And now cab drivers get to charge an additional fee for passengers who pay with credit cards. Every time I've taken a cab, the first thing I'm asked is, "Are you paying cash?" These are the same cabs that have the VISA, MC, AMEX and DISCOVER stickers on the window. Sometimes I lie and say yeah, and then when I arrive I pull out my card. It's mean but I don't care.
