Alec Baldwin labeled his participation in the 2012 jukebox musical "Rock of Ages" a miserable experience and called the box office dud a "horrible movie."
"It was a complete disaster," Baldwin said, noting that he was convinced to do it because he liked the director Adam Shankman and a cast that included Russell Brand and Tom Cruise.
He quickly recognized he'd made a mistake.
"A week in you go, 'Oh God, what have I done?'" Baldwin said.
He said an actor can tell when a movie is a turkey.
"The plane is buffeting, the engine is on fire," Baldwin said.
ROCK OF AGES...IT STINKS

Well it's a shame he thinks that. It's one of my favorite movie musicals in a long time.
I didn't think it was horrible. There are just a few things I didn't totally enjoy. I actually found Drew and Sherrie sort of boring together. But, once they were apart, I liked them. And I wish Catherine Zeta-Jones was a bigger part. But, it definitely is not as bad as Alec Baldwin says, in my opinion. And it's also not like he hasn't done other horrible movies. Wasn't he in the live action version of The Cat in the Hat with Mike Myers?
I don't agree with anything Alec says, but I'm with him on this one. No one I personally know liked it either.

Tinfoil...The Terrorizing Terminator
Not exactly a news flash.
I didn't think it was good at all, but there was one thing about it I liked. Now don't throw produce, but I thought Tom Cruise did quite well as a sexy rocker.
The guy playing Drew was hard to look at, IMO. That was a big minus in trying to watch the film for me.
Don't worry, Jane. I think he actually was what was getting good reviews. I don't like him in general, but he was good in this movie.
i think alec is a pompous self entitled ass but hes kinda right here.
Julianne Hough whom i loved on DWTS is horrible as Sherrie. she has a HORRIBLE voice as does most everyone else in the movie aside from MJ and Tom Cruise who is surprisingly the best part of the movie.
If youve seen the show multiple times as i have, the movie is such a disappointment.
To me, the film removed nearly everything that made the stage production so much fun. The entire personality of the show was gone. I thought it was a huge misfire.
I agree with Mister Matt. Everything that was fun about the show on stage was sucked out on film. It seemed so serious and dour. Also the exclusion of Franz was just bad.
He's right.
Yes the film was not great, it was still fun to watch though, and the worst thing in the film was Baldwin himself. Throwing the film under the bus after in tanked, really classy. Bet he would have kept his mouth shut if it was a hit. Honestly i HATE this man.

Unwatchable. Only Rob Marshall could have done worse.
And Alec Baldwin is one of the chief offenders, frankly. Rather than recognizing the ship was sinking and gamely hanging in there to do the best he could, he sleepwalks through the movie, his embarassment and irritation showing in damn near every frame.
If Carol Channing could deliver 110% during that catastrophe known as SKIDOO, Alec Baldwin could at least have bothered staying awake during filming of ROCK OF AGES.
I have to disagree!
I recognize its flaws, but still had a lot of fun - a feel-good movie, that made me nostalgic for a time I don't even remember. I've never seen the stage show, though, so didn't have any pre-conceived ideas about what it should be.
Not cool to bite the hand that already fed you, but he's pretty much correct.
I forgot Rock of Ages WAS a movie.
That music is the music I grew up to. I was in HS in the 80's - so to me it was campy fun. But I never saw the stage show - if I had maybe I would have hated the movie too.
It's amazing to me that he gets to direct musicals, he really messed up "Hairspray" (Little Inez wins "Miss Hairspray?, isn't it Tracy's movie?) and he messed up "Rock of Ages", by getting rid of Franz, his father and the other girl who had some great lines in the show.

I loved Hairspray, and it was really popular, so I would not put it in the same category as Rock Of Ages. I actually liked that movie better than the stage show and the OBCR.
Hairspray with John Travolta??? REVOLTING!
the John Waters Hairspray, with Divine and Ricki Lake? DIVINE
I thought Hairspray was TERRIBLE. The Broadway production was wonderful, the film adaptation was a huge misfire for me. Travolta? No, thank you.
Why did I think Hairspray the movie with Rickki Lake and Divine was before the Broadway show? So the Broadway show was an adaptation from the original movie.
"the John Waters Hairspray, with Divine and Ricki Lake? DIVINE"
That's the one I was thinking of. Never saw the one with John Travolta. I don't understand why they feel the need to re-make some movies.
Well, the remake was an adaptation of the stage musical, not really the John Waters movie. Though obviously that was the source material for the musical.
