I don't know about that. She has proven in the past that she's not afraid to kill people off in the process. It could easily be almost anybody.
I don't know of many people who anticipated how she ended Book 6.

Posted: 6/26/06 at 4:54pmI know I didn't, Colleen. I thought that would happen in Book Seven for sure.

I think everyone better get themselves ready for the definite possibility that Harry, Ron or Hermione is going to bite the big one....
Predictions on the length of the last book? Think we'll get over 1000 pages?

Posted: 6/26/06 at 5:06pmShe has stated in past interviews that she wanted to keep it shorter than Goblet of Fire, but I just don't see how she's going to accomplish that and tie everything up that needs to be tied up.

Posted: 6/26/06 at 5:12pmi thought she said shorter than OoTP which was the longest book to date, I wouldn't mind if it was that long though haha. It's my second favorite book.

You're right, I meant Order of the Phoenix.
I'd be fine if it was that long or longer, I really think it's going to be necessary to wrap everything up properly.

But... I can also see her leaving certain stories hanging... not wrapping it all up for us.
That's what I'm afraid of.
I NEED answers. Even if I don't necessarily want to know them...

In order for everything end happily ever after voldemort has to die...
Anyway I still can't believe the series is almost over. Tis sad.

Haha, Mrs. Norris and Filch!
Nice.
Well this is my theory on the final installment of the Harry Potter series: I think that after all the Horcrux-finding and after all the relationship crap that is going to happen in the seventh novel, it's all going to come down to Harry facing Voldemort in Godric's Hollow--where it all started! I mean, where else could it end. I think Harry is going to find himself back there searching for something, possibly a Horcrux (I hope I am spelling that right...) and Voldemort will be there and they will have a final duel, resulting in the death of...someone. Possibly Voldemort. Hopefully.

As far as pages ... I remember last summer thinking, "Oh my goodness, it's so skinny!" It's not skinny at ALL but does have fewer pages than I was used to. :)
I always thought Dumbledore was going to wind up being a bad guy. Something just sat wrong with me, maybe the idea of too good to be true? I dunno.
I can see Harry using himself as a shield to save someone else but who knows. It kind of seems like Harry, Snape, and Voldemort are too easy of an answer. Geesh ... we have a whole year to continue contemplating this.

Posted: 6/26/06 at 5:35pmI'm sticking with my theory that Harry IS the horcrux. Though by the time the next book comes out, I probably won't even remember what that is!

Posted: 6/26/06 at 5:47pmWell I think at least one of the characters to bite it will be Ron. Not because I want him to - but because Rowling said she didn't intend on killing this person off - and yet - there are very few characters that would pack an emotional wallop than the best friend sacrificing or dying for the cause. Hermione could bite it as well - but my money is on Ron.

As much as it kills me to admit it, I agree with you Craig. From the beginning I've had a feeling that Ron was going to bite the dust in book 7. I really hope I'm wrong though.
#39re: Rowling says 2 characters die in final Potter book
Posted: 6/26/06 at 5:49pmI'll be an emotional wreck while reading this, I fear...

Posting on BWW will come to a screeching halt the minute the book is released... as we all devour it.
I always plan to savor the books. Then I stay up all night reading...
And, Craig, I think you're right...

My picks:
Deffinites:
Ron
Voldemort
HARRY
Yes, I agree with Jasonf that Harry is the Horcrux. I said that from the beginning.
ETA: By beginning, I mean the end of book 6.

I'm another believer in Harry being the final Horcrux, and I think he'll kill Voldemort by killing himself.
I've always thought Harry would die at the end, but I have no other absolutes. I would be crushed, however, if Ron, Hermione, and Weasley or Neville died. So odds are I'll be devastated by the last book...

My money is on Lupin as the "reprieved" character. For a long time, I figured he was a goner for sure, but now that she's done that cute little "Love Finds Remus Lupin" twist at the end of Book 6... I have a feeling that was something that Just Sort of Happened while writing Book 6, and was not part of the original plan, and now that he has a chance at happiness, she doesn't want to kill him off. Just a wild speculation.
I think Snape's dead by the end of 7 (after proving he really was working on the side of Good), but I don't think he's one of the unanticipated ones. For some reason, I could see Neville being one of the unplanned deaths, though I hope not. And there's no way we get through this without losing a Weasley.
I still expect Harry, Ron and Hermione to survive, but that may be wishful thinking.

Posted: 6/26/06 at 6:46pmMaybe it might be Harry and Draco, you know in a final battle of good vs. evil?
#45re: Rowling says 2 characters die in final Potter book
Posted: 6/26/06 at 7:18pmbook 7 will have to be the longest so they can charge more.
#46re: Rowling says 2 characters die in final Potter book
Posted: 6/26/06 at 7:22pmThey've pretty much established that they can do what they want. It could be ten pages, folded and center-stapled at $40, and people would still line up at midnight to buy it.

Posted: 6/26/06 at 7:25pmWell I know that I am for sure going to be there with an IV drip of coffee so I can finish the book before breakfast!

I am going to agree with Craig too...but because of book one where Ron "sacrafices" himself so Hermione and Harry can go on.
It would make me really sad, but all the Weasley's haev survived so far, I think one of them will die and it will be the one we want to survive the most
#49re: Rowling says 2 characters die in final Potter book
Posted: 6/26/06 at 7:32pmI really do believe that Ron will survive and end up being the storyteller.
