The series is moving to MTV for the first time. Plus, not only does this season have a whopping 16 queens, this is also the season where the prize money has been raised to 200,000 dollars.
I’m still deciding if I want to watch it. The series as a whole has become such a chore to get through. The episodes are no longer fun, they’re just so filled with this melodramatic backstory and every single thing is a “lesson” that they want the audience to learn. This is a show about drag queens - it’s escapist tv (or at least it used to be). I’m suffering through this absolutely horrendous Canada Vs. The World where there’s not one person I care about and I just think “why am i still watching this?”
I feel like Canada Vs. The World just felt "eh" because there were these amazing queens being judged by a stylish, a tv personality, and a former drag race contestant. Like, it just felt a little lop-sided to me and the cast didn't really feel "it" for me.
I'm excited for a new season, but I agree, let them be messy, let them be themselves.
I enjoyed the premiere but wow, that was a lot to take in for one sitting. Two photo shoots, dance rehearsal, 16-person talent show, runways....overstimulating for sure. I enjoyed most of the queens and I really like the discussion of tiktok queens vs. traditional performing queens. There are so many interchangeable white twink queens though. Looks like it could be a good season and I'm excited for Sasha Colby domination.
What's interesting to me, is that no one has "jumped out" to me as someone I am going to want to see week after week the way I have with some of the other past queens. The promo introducing all the queens was not great. My wife and I kept saying "She's this season's Eurka", "She's going to be Candy Muse", "She's going to be Daya Betty/Crystal Method", etc. etc.

The first episode was a lot, but I enjoyed it very much. Glad to see an elimination on the first episode for once instead of what they were doing previously.
What in the hell was up with last night's episode? All of the spent their time redoing rooms and we never got to see them? Rupaul rewarded some queens with safety, with absolutely no reference. The lip-sync was anti-climatic because we didn't know why they were picked or why they went home...

They didn't redo the rooms, they took materials from the rooms and created their own outfits.

That is of course when the episodes should be an hour. What a mess."
As other people have pointed out, what should have been done since the weho show is only six episodes, they should have waited to premiere those later into this season's run of drag race. The 60 minute episodes for the early drag race episodes with more queens, than switch to the 40 minute run time for The later episodes with fewer Queens, and at that time premiering the weho show (although personally I feel like they should have just moved the WeHo show to a different time slot in the first damn place. Lol)

That last episode was a pretty grave disappointment. I've not been a fan of Mistress Isabelle from her first appearance, the feeling that her ego writes checks that her lack of talent cannot cash, and her smarmy little confessional videos really turn me off. I wasn't at all surprised to see her maneuver her way to get the part she wanted in the sitcom, but I was really surprised to see the utterly by the numbers performance she gave. Mistress didn't supply a single laugh, and it made me wonder what on earth the other performers had seen in the part to be so eager to grab it for themselves. And her runway look was one of the most repulsive ever to hit the runway.
So is Mistress Isabelle this season's Kandi Muse? Utterly untalented but mysteriously beguiling to RuPaul?

The queens being gagged at seeing Mistress walk in the Werkroom had me LIVING! Also, this week's episode is further proof as to why Sasha Colby is going to be in the top 4.
Mistress never steals anything. She's deadweight. Useless in everyway. The reference to "gluing crystals on some fabric" entirely describes her final look. Cart her away already.
