Yes, she does have the right to perform for whomever she wishes. I also have right to say that it is a shame that she has selected this event.
'Increased Homeland security'
This one makes me laugh. Ya know...we had as many signs as possible that the 9/11 attacks were coming...and no one did anything about it.
Thank you thank you thank you robbiej !!!
for samiam2
i got two goodies:
he treats the whole world to new words that he makes up on his very own...(no help from Don King or Dickie Cheney)
and he keeps his 'ranch' in Tx clear of brush with his own down home swinging axe hands!
how's that?!

Oh, no, robbie...
Well, I am going to leave now, before this thread gives me a heart attack!
I think that the restraint that I am currently exerting to keep from expressing my Liberal views in this thread is literally causing me minor brain damage...
In ANY case, I don't think that this is a matter of politics. At all. Even if Kristin Chenoweth is a Republican, it's KRISTIN CHENOWETH. Is anyone really surprised that she's not turning down an opportunity to perform and add one more block to the Jenga tower that is her current empire in the music business?
Yes you do have that right, and we have the right to say leave her alone. And I also agree with Kristen, and I think that she had the chance for a great honor, and she did a great move... probably for what she believed in, and for her career.

A memo that spells out the desire of Osama bin Laden to use planes to attack within the United States?
Yet NO ONE COULD IMAGINE THAT THAT COULD EVER HAPPEN.
Now she's the f*cking Secretary of State.
Holy sh*t.
This is why I hate politics.
We should all be listening to Ragtime right now, or talking about how bad Brooklyn is! Not dividing ourselves by political party lines!
come on people, let's go watch West Side Story, and forget this whole thread happened.
Plum, I said some liberals, not all. I rather not chat with you about politics. So, until than you can go... nevermind I rather not finish this sentence.

Was that before or after he tried to quash the formation of the 9/11 Commission? Ya know the one where he had to have Dicky-boy hold his hand an while he wouldn't testify under oath?
I would just like to ask something... what would you have liked Bush to do? What would you have done... did you know? Nothing is for certain, and tell me... what could he have done?
I'm out... I'll be back later

Even though I'm not a supporter of our current administration, I took a little bit of a different perspective on this. I think there is a difference between performing at something like the innauguration and performing at an election rally. Like someone said - he has been elected and will serve 4 more years whether anyone likes it or not. (She's not performing at an event that is trying to gain support for the President.)The innauguration of a president - whoever that person may be - is a historical event - and I'm disappointed people are judging her so harshly for it. I'm a little surprised at the venom directed at her for her alleged political views. Perhaps she supports Bush's administration, or perhaps she respects the office of the Presidency and the innaugural process. Who the heck knows. But to boycott her CD and other things I've read? Wow. Just as you feel entitled to have your political views, so does she. It's possible you don't agree with hers - but the hatred here seems a little misplaced.
THANK YOU.
My point exactly.

Well, this may really be getting off topic, but has anyone noticed? "Homeland Security" is bigger 'showtime' than any show on Broadway. None of it is really making anything 'safer' it's just to give the appearance that something is being done. Pure theatre!

Anyway, if Kristin wants to sing for Bush, that's her choice. If others choose to not buy her albums because they don't agree with it, that's their choice -- I believe that's part of what being an American is all about, no?
ETA: An inauguration, while in theory is an American event, it is definitely partisan, it would be rare for an incoming administration to ask performers from the other camp to participate.

kangaroo is my new best friend on here...
If KC wants to perform, let her. She needs money, chances like this won't always come around...

You confuse me terribly, ljay. Yes, no, maybe so? Go back to the threads on the OT board in the fall and you'll see plenty of liberals having perfectly rational discussions with the 3 or 4 sane and mature Republicans on this board.
And robbie, that thing about the memo is unfair. D'you know how many memos like that they get every single day? Most of them come to absolutely nothing, and it's hard to tell which is which. Were there screw-ups leading up to 9/11? Yes. But you can say those screw-ups lead back to the Reagan Administration at least. I blame Bush for a whole lot of stuff, but I won't lay all the blame for 9/11 on his shoulders.

Of course.
It totally is.
I'm just saying that it's silly to presume Chenoweth's political beliefs based on her performing at this event.
I think Synchrogirl just hit the bottom line.
<~~~Still wondering where this information came from to begin with.

About her performing? New York Post, I think.
I wasn't gonna buy her CD anyway. Not a fan of her as a recording artist, though I think she's marvelous on stage.
But if someone doesn't want to buy her CD for this reason, I don't really see a problem with it. I prefer to shop at gay-owned stores because that's just the kinda guy I am. There's a website that lists all the 'red' stores and all the 'blue' stores, based on campaign contribution, and I try to buy only from blue stores. Why? Because I don't want to give to a store that takes my money and turns around and gives it to something to which I'm absolutely opposed.
It's a little extreme when we're talking about individual performers (in ONLY my opinion), but I understand the impetus.
