I got the earlier info that JFK and Newark were open from a local non-network station. I think I should stick with the WNBC, WCBS, WABC in the future for local news.

Pal Joey, I wandered out this afternoon and went to neighborhood haunts. About 60% of the businesses were open and filled to capacity, wether they were delis. grocery's, restaurants, cafes, even a Verizon store! Everyone was smiling and afable. Takes a lot to bring down NYers!

I don't want to bring up any bad feelings but how does this compare to 9/11?

I know terrorism and bad weather aren't the same thing. I'm just curious about the feelings toward each event. Same amount of wondering, same amount of fear, chaos, etc? More? Less?

Still no power here in Jersey City but otherwise ok. Have friends here in Jersey City who have lost everything. Parts of JC and Hoboken are still underwater. My parents live in Wildwood and it seems they were spared the worst of it. Having grown up on the Jersey shore the pictures I'm seeing are devastating.

No power since Saturday night, which is admittedly difficult, but otherwise okay and am grateful (especially since the plumbing works. Cold showers are better than no showers!). Whenever I start to feel put upon or bitchy I think of the brave first responders, those who lost their lives, their homes and those NICU nurses carrying those babies and I tell myself to suck it up and deal. Many of my friends and neighbors have suffered devastating property damage. It's good to be back at work. We were closed for two days, which NEVER happens! Before the storm I went to Best Buy and made a good investment in a Mophie juice pack, which extends the battery life of the iPhone. It's performed beautifully. I'm recharging everything here at the office.

Heard from some former coworkers that the first two floors of my old office building flooded with crests of the waves reaching to the fourth floor during the worst of it. Their office is on the 16th floor so it isn't damaged, but it's unlikely they will be able to get in for the rest of the week. They also had to reschedule their annual gala dinner to December. Was supposed to be at Cipriani Wall Street this Friday. Likely to be a down year for them on this event since it will be hard to get everyone there during the holiday season. Bad for them because it is their biggest fundraiser of the year.

My avatar is a reminder to myself. I need lots of reminders...

Hey all, hoping everyone is okay, and spirits are up...so bad out there for so many!

We drove in with the cats on Sunday and moved back into the ues apt once we were sure the storm was on track for us. Had power through the storm which was such a blessing. Our shore house was still standing, thank god. Minor damage and flooding, but nothing in comparison to neighbors...some of whom lost everything. Not sure when we'll be able to get down there to check and help out. Thankfully neighbors kept an eye on things, and were able to send pics...one of fish on your front stoop from when the lake came up to our door.

Hey we finally got power back, we lost it Monday afternoon. A lot of trees down by us and a couple transformers caught fire. Cleaned up yesterday and today and school will be in session tomorrow. My grandparent's house survived with little damage, the house next to it was pushed off it's pilings so we were very lucky. I am finally able to watch the news and the pictures of the shore are heartbreaking. Hope everyone is ok

I live in Jersey City Heights. It is madness there during the day. Spotty electricity but the Stop and Shop is open and is crazy busy. They are letting people charge their phones there and some people are actually bringing their laptops in and sitting there online. LOTS of Hoboken people there. They are walking and driving in. I have to be back at work tomorrow so I left. The only transportztion out are those jitney busses. Am now staying with a friend in the city. Saw the news for the first time tonight since my power wentout at 9:30pm on Monday and I am just floored. Will probably be here until midto late next week. When I left today the police and national guard were in my neighborhood. They had to start diverting people out of my neighborhood asntherd were just hundreds of people on the streets and the traffic was ridiculous.

To any of you affected by this, hang in there.

My Studio was forced closed today because of lack of electricity. Hoping to be allowed back in tomorrow, I have some serious deadlines looming! The National Guard was out in full force protecting the power plant across the street.
Here at home, still have electric but no water. The building's pumps are still underwater and unfunctioning. Might be a week before we get that back.

I was very, very fortunate to have absolutely no damage in my apartment and not lose power at all. It was literally the first time in my life that I was happy to live in the boondocks of Brooklyn and not Manhattan. The only thing I lost was cell phone reception (and thus Internet access since I only have it on my phone) for about 24 hours until a few minutes ago.

Cell phone coverage has been spotty in the city. A lot of places still didn't have internet service. Somehow I am getting WiFi at my friend's apt.

Still no power to where I am on the shoreline of CT. I'm more fortunate than most in my area as it looks like quite a few homes are a total loss or as the mayor said "many dozens of homes to be demolished"

Today like yesterday made a dash to charge my iPhone and iPad. Hit the local library where there must have been at least 100 people waiting for them to open. They gave out a lot of power strips so a lot of people can take advantage of the outlets.

I haven't had time to read the thread so hoping everyone at least survived the storm.

I just got back to school, but I spent the storm on Staten Island, three houses above Zone A. Two nights ago we went down to the beach to inspect the damage, and it's almost beyond belief. Just wreckage everywhere - houses torn off foundations, sand and seaweed in the streets.
