Where I grew up, a famous combo snack treat was "a Moon Pie and an RC" ... heck, I've known it to be lunch for some folks.
Not sure why it had to be RC Cola (Royal Crown Cola), but there ya go.
I picked up a mini Moon Pie at a gas convenience store recently after not having had one in ages ... it sure tasted good! (Chocolate, don't care for the banana ones.)
Oh, and re. ice cream ... Mayfield is pretty darn good too.

Stuckey's Pecan Log anyone?

Born in NC, raised in SC--where I still currently reside.
secondstar--Where in SC? (you can PM me that answer if you want)
Moon Pies are the shiznet!
Ha... I think I'm a terrible southerner. I am constantly asked if I "ain't from around here," because I am not a fan of grits or sweet tea, and I lack that charming southern drawl. Born and raised, though, I swear! I do love Cheerwine more than is probably normal, if that counts. And Blue Bell ice cream! Yum.
Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't Cheerwine only available in South and North Carolina?
Another North Carolinian here!
(Land of the best barbeque... Yeah, you heard me SC! )
I don't live there any more because of my job, but I think I'll be back someday.

I think they've expanded some. For awhile you could get it in Tennessee.
Yep, it used to be a cheap soda in Tennessee, but I don't think you can get it there anymore. Man, that stuff is nasty. And I would LOVE to roam through a Stuckey's. And have a real glass of sweet tea. Eh, I will have to settle for a slice of real pizza.

You have some real issues there. Not liking two of the South's famous cuisine. I'm reporting you to Paula Deen.
I hate collard greens.
I hate grits.
I have a southern drawl.
The only tea I like is my mom's.
Eck . . . I hate collard greens.

Collard greens are nasty, but you have to eat them to clean out all that gunk that builds up in your arteries when you eat fried chicken.
Another thing.. I can't make fried chicken to save my life.
I burnt the outside, and the inside stayed red.
I have better luck with tonkatsu.
Although you don't see it everywhere, you've always been able to get Cheerwine in Georgias, too.
One of our local restaraunts was advertising "something something something and a mess of collards" just today. How much exactly is a "mess"?
More than a spoonful but less than a pound?
A "Mess of" something, is a lot of something.

You should cover the pan with a top to keep the heat in. It should be on a medium-low setting to cook slowly. Or you may have used too much coating.
One man's mess is another man's heap.
of course i'm a southerner. don't i have a huge portrait of scarlett hanging over my bed??
In high school, my bedroom had a Gone With The Wind theme. Now I am trying not to blush.
