I had a 101 Dalmations theme when I was like ten.
After that, it went black/white. I had the checkered floor and everything. That stuck until I moved.

Another thing.. I can't make fried chicken to save my life.
I burnt the outside, and the inside stayed red.
Dadgum ditto, Fiction!
Well at least you make a mean fried pickle. I've never even had one o' those. Am I majorly missing out?
I am from the south and proud of the fact that I drink coke for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Hee Hee! I'm southern!!! Yay!!

I'm from Texas and I don't like sweet tea. Of course, I'm a transplant from New England...
And grits are nasty.
I ionly like grits if I add sugar and butter and make them taste like Cream of Wheat.
I have seen Gone With The Wind 59 times.
I LOVE grits
Collards? I could take 'em or leave 'em
I adore iced tea but put sugar anywhere near it and I'll dump it over your head.
I love my mom's fried chicken but I haven't had it in about 15 years.
Ham biscuits (home made 'light as air' southern biscuits with thin slices of Smithfield ham) are mother's milk...
mint juleps - to DIE for!
let me amend my comment......I like Southerners, just usually not their politics or religious views
Actually, there are plenty of liberals in my town. It's just the "Money Families" who are conservative. Unfortunately, those few families control everything. I guess it's like the mafia - only snootier.
Why do you think this whole thread is about food? It's the only thing most of the southerners here are REALLY proud of.
(OK - don't get your knickers in a knot. I'm only talking about myself!)
Mamie, when I move to the area we have to get together and cook. I'll have to make some unsweetened iced tea for you though. I have to have my sweetened tea.
I would kill for my grandmother's chicken and dumplings. When I think of her cooking (the way it was before she got sick and things went downhill) and how most of her recipes were lost with her passing it makes me so sad. I wish I could make her chicken and dumplings, potato salad and fudge.
Is Texas still considered "west" or "southwest" or something lame like that?

i remember our big excitement was to walk down the railroad tracks to Knight's General Store & get a Peach Nehi!!!!!
& my sister came up with the idea of putting salted peanuts in your Nehi bottle, so you would get a swig of Peach Nehi & some peanuts @ the same time...& we thought that that was really sophisticated & glamourous!!!!

I'm a transplant to Florida by way of Maine, so I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Yankee (no, NOT the baseball team :). By birthright I am a Red Sox and Patriots fan...
I just love to cook for a lot of people. I think that is a southern thing. My maternal grandmother and paternal great-grandmother both taught me my flair for entertaining. My grandmother would feed everyone in the neighborhood. She cooked good, soul food type dinners. She would have two or three meats and tons of veggies. My great-grandmother, on the other hand, acted like every day was a party. If I ever came over with a friend to visit, she would start putting out the plates. She would make cheese and cracker trays, sliced raw veggies, homemade cucumber dip. And she would do it without thinking. She always had enough in the fridge for anyone to drop by. They were both amazing ladies and I miss them every day. Food equalled love for them. I blame my weight on both of them.
Jersey, I am with you on the weight thing. Southern grandmothers are the best/worst in that area. I miss mine horribly.
So we should have a BWW southern members pot luck or something. We'd all have heart attacks by the end of it.
I would be up for that, and I must say my fried chicken comes out quite well.
Nice and juicy but cooked through and through and the crust a golden brown.
So SP has the chicken, I will bring banana pudding and sweet tea and of course some Kentucky bourbon.
Love to all, but I stopped reading at page 3. It must be a Southern thing.
I'm from NC and still live here. I love being a Southerner. Wouldn't change it for the world!
Doodle: the guy was stealing money from the Cracker Barrel.
And one of those cloth checker boards.
Jbarafan, re: moon pies and RC. Did you know there's an RC/moon pie festival somewhere in Tennessee? I'll see if I can find the link.

I am ready for some biscuits and white gravy.
I'll whip up some pimento cheese and make finger sandwiches.
