I just finished reading the Da Vinci Code. I really liked it. I couldn't put it down and lost quite a bit of sleep.
Has anyone else here read it? What did you think?
I liked it, but it's been awhile so I don't remember the details really.
Quite frankly, I am somewhat disappointed to see that Tom Hanks will be playing the part.

Excellent. But I don't see Tom Hanks as Langdon at ALL!
I'M A LEGEND!

Tom Hanks is probably one of the worst casting choices...
However, Audrey Tautau (sp?) should be great.
it was a quick read. hope the movie does the book justice. it would have been hilarious if they chose Harrison Ford to play Langdon

WELCOME TO THE CLUB! i finished that book in 2 days and got about 4 hours of sleep.
i will be very upset if the movie ruins this book.
I loved this book. I read it last year about five times and about twice this year. The movie better be good.

I read the book while I was in Europe this summer (it's already out in paperback there). I, too, got totally engrossed in the story, but in the end I felt it was over-plotted and less-than-credulous.

captain, i was thinking about that, too. especially after passion.
So, at the very end, are we supposed to assume that Langdon doesn't actually go and get the documents/grail? He is satisfied that he just knows where they are? That was one thing I wasn't sure about.
I'm currently re-reading it. I love the plot and the theories used, but I'm not a fan of Dan Brown's writing style. I find the book is great as an extended glorified movie treatment, which isn't necessarily a ba thing. It's as if he wrote it to be a movie, and I'm confident that it will look great (Hanks' casting notwithstanding).
And predictions on who will play Silas and Fache? I always imagined Ralph Fiennes a la Red Dragon as Silas, and Jason Isaacs as Fache.
I started reading it at 7am one day at work at had to take it to the gym to finish it on a bike at about 6pm. I couldn't put tham damn thing down.
It was kind of funny how similar Angels & Demons was...
Tom Hanks. Boo.
I think Deception Point would make a great movie, but some of those scene would be quite a pain (not to mention $!)...like floating around on that iceberg...

I found it silly. At about page 32, I felt like I couldn't read another word, I was that bored. Then, it picked up; but it lack substance. The author kept having characters say things like: "The evidence is overwhelming" or "I never saw that before, but now it's obvious" or words to that effect (it's been about 2 years since I read it, so I can't cite an exact example). I remember, more than once, re-reading a passage, because of statements like that (thinking I had missed something); but no, there's nothing there. Also, everything fell too neatly into place. I mean, most of the conclusions and decisions those two made were, utterly, unbelieveable (imagine my shock when it became such a tremendous best-seller). Even so, I kept thinking it could make an interesting and even compelling film, with a very visual director and the right leads; but given that Ron Howard is directing and Tom Hanks is starring, I hold-out no hope for it being a film that improves upon the book (which can easily be improved upon). Don't know why, but I kept picturing Dennis Quaid and Catherine Zeta Jones, in a Brian De Palma film.
Dennis Quaid is the first one that came to mind for me, as well. I'm pretty disappointed with Tom Hanks...not that he's not talented, he's just not how I envisioned Langdon. After seeing CLOSER, I immediately thought of Clive Owen for the role, I think we would be FANTASTIC.

Type_A_Tiff, I just read your post. YES! I agree!!!
I read it in a day, and I couldn't put it down but at the same time it wasn't what I'd call an enjoyable book. Anyone else find that?
I just started reading the book a few days ago. I really like it so far, but I think I'm going to avoid this thread due to spoilers.

I enjoyed it, but as complete fluff. It's the perfect kind of book for a day when it's rainy and cold outside, and all you want to do is plop on the couch and read something totally mindless to pass the time. I'm sure it'll be a good movie in a similar vein--the kind of thing you enjoy when you want to turn your brain off for a couple hours.
I absolutely loved this book. I read it in a day-- I could literally not put it down. It was completely addicting and very fun.
I just don't know how it'll be a movie.
I was so disappointed in the ending. Well, Tom, here's to another Bonfire of the Vanities for you.

I loved the book. I too could not put it down.
Am I the only one who thinks Tom Hanks will do a good job in the movie? Yes I agree that there could of been better people to play the part, but I have confidence in Tom Hanks.
Yes, I agree Tom Hanks is a bad choice. Oh well.
Rumor has it that there is going to be a lot of "flash back" stuff added at John Rhys-Davies (Sallah in Raisers of the Lost Ark and Glimli in LOTR) is going to play Leonardo DaVinci whom he already played in Star Trek Voyager.
first off i read it and could not put it down! Secondly i am pissed by the tom hanks choice.
I love love love this book...but part of the reason is that it's basically "contraband" at my catholic school...and Tom hanks....ARGHHH! I thought they were joking when I found out. They need somebody distinuged and hot..:) but that's just my opinion.
