"Beyoncé Knowles' father Mathew is furious the superstar was overlooked at the Golden Globe Awards, accusing the film industry of discriminating against blacks. The singer-turned-actress failed to pick up a single nomination for her role in Dreamgirls, and - despite Golden Globe wins for African-Americans Forest Whitaker, Eddie Murphy, Prince, Jennifer Hudson and the movie itself - Knowles blames his daughter's omission on racism.
He told reporters after the ceremony on Monday, "Today is MLK's (Martin Luther King's) birthday and it saddens me to say that things have not changed for blacks. Working class blacks and blacks in Hollywood are still being discriminated against. We still have a long way to go."

He actually thinks his daughter gave a better performance than Meryl Streep?

Wait a minute. This doesn't even make sense! She WAS nominated.

No, Beyonce just has alot to learn about acting is all. The Globes learned their lesson with Pia and BUTTERFLY.
Other minority actors nommed:
Will Smith
Chiwetel Ejiofor (2)
Adriana Barraza
Rinko Kikuchi
America Ferrera
Sophie Okonedo
André Braugher
Michael Ealy
Masi Oka
That's a pretty fair representation considering the other three winners.
He's gonna be pissy on the 23rd despite the inevitable nominations for 5 African American actors, 2 Latina actors, and 1 Asian actor.
He just needs to grow up and stop being a damn baby because his little girl isn't as good as everyone else. I'm not attacking Beyonce, she's very talented by all means, but I am very glad Ms. Hudson won that Golden Globe and I most definitely hope she wins an Oscar.

Yes...and we all learned how this tactic worked for Diana Ross when Berry Gordy ranted the same way for Lady Sings the Blues. I guess history will repeat itself after all.

Perhaps he should spend more time getting his daughter acting lessons than giving speeches on the state of black America.
But...doesn't he see that in one of the cases...his daughter LOST to a minority? Is he THAT stupid?
Alternatively, perhaps he should get out of her way.

Eesh. Well, I'm generally a staunch Beyonce defender, but this is crazy talk. Is it a real quote, though? Usually the anti-Beyonce camp is all over stuff like this, but so far the only place I've found it is on the page that Margo linked.
Beyonce has always struck me as someone a little more together than people give her credit for. If her father did say this, I wouldn't be surprised if she was mortified.

Well, in that case the man is crazy a sh!thouse rat.
The film that his daughter stars in won best picture. You think he'd be happy. I always wanted to get into the mind of these people. It's so interesting how stupid people can be.
I like Beyonce, and she was very good in this film... but she needs to "divorce" her father NOW.
Whatever progress she has made in Hollywood as far as "respect" is being totally undermined by Papa Crazy.
Get thee out!!
...Or get what thee deserves.
She really needs to fire his ass though. Daddy's little girl can do it on her own now, yes she can.
These parent/manager types need to find a job instead of mooching off of their children (i.e., Mr. Knowles, Mr. Simpson)
Dottie, I immediately thought of Simpson when I read this. They are amazingly similar.
I was also going to put in Mr. Williams as in Serena and Venus, but I'm not sure if he's their coach or manager or both!!
And yes, Simpson just gives me the creeps.
Yeah, what's up with the stage fathers?
Don't make me bring up Jackie Coogan!
Well, it's Madame Rose syndrome all over the place really, isn't it?
Beyonce isn't normally my cup of tea. I recognize that people are really enamored of her. Occasionally, I enjoy her (seriously, I still love "Survivor"). But daddy's gotta go.

The thing is that he's not only hurting his daughter's career, but people like him also hurt those who are actual victims of racism in this country. It's disgraceful and contemptible to invoke racism in such an irresponsible manner and makes it harder for those who have truly been discriminated against to be taken seriously and seek proper redress.
He needs to go away. FAR away.
You mean in the same way Brokeback Mountain's Oscar loss was homophobia on the most epic scale ever?
I don't know if it's QUITE the same but I really feel it just speaks to everyone's desire these days to find SOMEONE ELSE to blame. Or someTHING else. In this case, Beyonce lost to a white woman for Best Actress in a musical/comedy. On the face of it, the easiest "excuse" that excuses Beyonce 100% from any responsibility is to say it was because of color.
I guess as a non-minority, I can't relate, but I don't get making things an issue when they aren't. Eddie and Jennifer both won in their categories. Dreamgirls won in its category. Other minority nominees were honored. Hell, Jamie Foxx just looked silly when he felt the need to say hello to only African-American people in the audience. That could have been a coincidence, but it was odd.
