Heh. What can I say Dre, we've certainly had some fun, interesting times at DRS The *Official* Greg Jbara Love Thread

lol, That's like me and Cat talking between this and Sherie thread.

We watched the Oklahoma movie in choir, and I almost shot the teacher a few times. During the dream scene, she told is it was very bizarre, we shouldn't pay attention, this is the worst part of the show... etc.

She comments too much during the movie, so you can't pay attention. Same with WSS last year.

Are you serious Mary?? Totally yell at her!

The dream sequence is considered one of the most important aspects in Oklahoma, especially in its influence. So much of what was revolutionary about Oklahoma was the fact that it had a plot the whole way through, and the dream ballet was really the first time a dance sequence was integrated into the story. Sure, looking back, it has obviously been done much better, but you can't ignore the fact that it was the first. Agnes De Mille's choreography in Oklahoma paved the way for Jerry Robbins, and it was the first influx of what jerry turned all of West Side into--telling the story through the dance.

Aww, was that the only time you've seen the movie Mary? If so, you should rent it. I'm not a huge fan of Natalie Wood's or Richard Behmer's acting, or some of the stupid dubbing, or the cutting of their dream ballet, but...it still is West Side Story. It's still known as one of the greatest movies of all time, and is the best way to experience it at the moment.

mary-i know EXACTLLY what you mean! in history, we watched "tora! tora! tora!"and my teacher paused every 10 seconds to explain what was happening. and now we're watching "schindler's list," and he's doing the same exact thing. aah, well, haha.

me, i'm okay with sondheim. i personally don't get what's extremely amazing about him, but i do admire his work. (into the woods) but, i dont know-his work is usually very depressing. we did merrily we roll along last year, and that's a prime example.

hmm...so. what's up everybody?

Yeah. I loved the dream scene, she said it was weird and hated it. Gahhh.

She had to fast forward during the scene in WSS when the people assaulted Maria (or was it Anita)?

Agreed Dre. My kitten thinks he's a puppy though so he's fine.

OMG Mary...I mean okay I have to remember your age, why the teacher would do it, but still that is a very powerful if not the most powerful, upsetting and thematic moments of West Side.

It was Anita. Go rent the movie ASAP. Then I can do a whole analysis. I love discussing WSS.

I mean...I kind of find the ballet sequence to go on a bit; I wouldn't call it my favorite part. But again, it's about recognizing the importance. But the dream/nightmare sequence in WSS is great. It sucks that it wasn't included in the movie.
