Aw Jamie, I'm so sorry to hear that.
And like Kerrie said, we're all here for you if you need to talk.
I'm off to my lesson, then rehersal.
hey this is cool:
and i checked it out. it's only 9.99 and has 6 days left on it.
Now that I'm awake...
I'm so sorry Jamie. You know I've been going through some rough times lately, and I can absolutely relate to the confusion in when you cry and when you don't cry and such. Like everyone said we're all here for you, and I'm always online to help you not accomplish homework
Re: West Side Story
First off CircusLiz, I love you! I totally agree with everything you said. In fact in a recent playbill poll, West Side Story was voted the most important/influential show in Broadway history. IMO, Oklahoma! is the only one that comes close to that. I mean Robbins' staging, Bernstein's music, the two working together to tell the story, the dark subject material, etc. Though I don't think the movie, which is quite good, even does the show justice. I can't stand listening to the songs in the movie; I want to turn down the volume and play the OBC. With the dubbed voices, there's just no comparison. I could go on, but I've said many-a-times I think it was the best show ever on Broadway.
And contrary to popular belief, I will not shoot those who don't like it. Your taste is your taste, you know? But it is important to acknowledge that it is a very good show, if not the best like I think, just not your cup of tea. I can say that about Oklahoma--not my favorite show but there's no denying the importance it's had in Broadway history. And I really dislike The Music Man, but the lead characters' melodies being the same and it being revealed at the end was genius. If you guys really want, I can say what makes WSS such a good show, but I think I do that quite often....
Ooh, I mentioned this before, but I watched that Kiss Me Kate DVD a couple years ago; I thought it was okay. Then I realized Rachel York was in it, and borrowed it from the library last week. This time, I loved it! Barrett and Rachel are fantastic, and I have so much more appreciation of the show. Ooh, and Michael Berresse has a principal part too.
Haha Dre, I'm not surprised you didn't think it was me. If I had to talk/listen to me when I first woke up, I wouldn't even think I was talking to a human...
And I now have a flute Okay, who can give me some advice in lessons?
Not to mention Sondheim writing I Feel Pretty and then saying it was the worst song he ever wrote...
Hey kids. Checking in before I go to rehearsal. How is everyone?

Like dude.
My friend's going to be a bodyguard for American Idol if I didn't tell you already.
*Wears I know someone who knows someone who is going to be a Bodyguard for American Idol T-shirt*
Kerrie, Dre, and Amanda-i LOVE YOU GUYS so much. I was grieving during that post, but now that I've done it, I'm much better. So, thanks!
Amanda-I play flute.
And I agree-Oklahoma! was probably like the Wicked of our time back then. It was one of the most popular shows on Bdway ever, and drew in so many audiences.
i never liked oklahoma.
I enjoy Oklahoma greatly...
I think we've had this convo before
with me?
jamie,
i am sending so much love to you okay? sometimes emotions really don't know when to kick in, the shock is just numbing wether we know it or not. my grandmother is slowly losing her memory and ithough i KNOW it's tragic, i can hardly respond emotionally to it. it doesn't make me or anyeone else like this a bad person. people react differently.
i'm so sorry for your loss. truely.
megs
Jamie, I know this has already been said, but we're all here for you and we're all a great support system. I'm so sorry for your loss *big hug*.
Right Mary...because Maria sings words that are more advanced than she should be singing/saying, West Side Story is not a good show.
And you brought up a great example of what I was saying. I can't minimize Sondheim's accomplishments or talents or qualities of his shows. But in the majority of his shows, he's not my cup of tea. I really like Into the Woods and am going from liking to really liking Sweeney Todd, but that's it. I happen to slightly embarassingly prefer Webber.
This has been a problem in some main board threads--it's important to remember the big difference between best and favorite. My 4 favorite shows are West Side Story, Wicked, Rent...and at this point anyway DRS. Are they the 4 best shows ever put on Broadway? Not by a long shot.
In my opinion, that honor goes to West Side Story, Gypsy, Fiddler on the Roof, and My Fair Lady.
i love how we are having convos on two other threads, amanda.
