I caught the blip on the news at 11PM. Sue Simmons set it up that "Those who shared the stage remembered Richardson tonight" and it cut to Raul saying that he was in Cabaret, but after she had left, and then some statement about how she will be missed. It was about 10 seconds long.
Now, mother always said that whenever you hear a strange, frightening, and potentially life-threatening ghostly chant coming from the dark woods that there's one thing that you should do: Not wake the others and go investigate it alone...
Ouch, glad I missed that. I escaped to the South for a few days.
I would LOVE to go to that Kander and Ebb benefit (which seems to be this year's The Ladies Who Sing Sondheim?) but it's way out of my unemployed price range.
Did I miss this? The Next 10 Minutes and The Man That Got Away posted on YouTube? I vaguely remember you guys hinting at it but my sleuthing skills were obviously sadly lacking a week ago.
They're hard to find given the way the person who uploaded them wrote the tags. Search Themanthatgotaway (no spaces) and TheNext10minutes (again, no spaces and the number 10 not the word) and you should find them.
If you go into the user's profile, you can view all of them. If you have the time, you should really watch the White Pants-Off in Norbert's duet with Aaron Tveit (they did What is This Feeling? from Wicked). It's a winner.
Raul continues to be busy, busy, busy. In addition to the Kander and Ebb Cabaret on May 4th, he's also participating in the Atlantic Theatre Gala on April 27th.
Oh dear. I wish they'd used a similar picture to the Kander & Ebb release, where, other than the slightly sunburned and slightly oily face, he looks pretty decent. Here he's just...well, not ideal.
Neat that Raul is continuing his association with William H. Macy. Wish I could hit the lottery and afford to go to any of these benefits. And there is Drama League award lunch on May 15.
Well, given that the Atlantic was one of the producers of Speed-the-Plow, Mamet (and Macy) founded the Atlantic, and Neil Pepe, artistic director of the Atlantic, directed Speed-the-Plow, it's hardly simply Raul continuing an association with Macy.
I was aware of all that. I didn't think I was writing an essay about the Atlantic - just happy to think about Raul and Macy possibly performing together again.
I would have thought so, it just read a little bit like the assumption was, "Hey, Macy is doing this, me too!!" when there are plenty of other reasons for him to be doing it. If you were just happy to think about them performing together again, you could have just said that.
Raul doing benefits is a good thing. If he has the time, energy and voice to do benefits, that means he's probably not auditioning and has something lined up already. Besides, unless you do care about the cause, I don't think it's worth it to attend any benefit for one single performer, who sings only one song the whole night.

Whoa! Raúl is moving up on the world - he scored a Stephen King novel! That is going to be one creepy audiobook!
Here's the one-line blurb from Amazon: "In Stephen King's mesmerizing new novel, a Maine town is subject to the imposition of an impenetrable dome that isolates its citizens from the world".
It seems he really does have a predilection of sorts for the horror genre.
Obviously I meant to say "moving up IN the world" but I discovered that when you go in to update a post, that's when the accented ú turns into gobbledygook garbage. BWW is so weird.
I love Stephen King's books (then again, I'm from Maine, so perhaps I'm biased?) Anyway, can't wait.
"I am and always will be the optimist. The hoper of far-flung hopes and dreamer of improbable dreams." - Doctor Who
"Yes, the brutalities of progress are called revolutions. When they are over, men recognize that the human race has been harshly treated but it has moved forward." - Les Miserables
I've never been able to finish a Stephen King novel other than THE STAND - the gross graphic details usually get to me before I can get to the last page. Listening to this audiobook should be a very interesting approach/avoidance experience!
