to get back to an early question Michael Arden is actaully working on a score for the Ripley the musical.

"Judy Garland, Jimmy Dean, You tragedy Queen" ~ Taboo

"Watching a frat boy realize just what he put his d!ck in...ex's getting std's...schadenfruede" ~ Ave Q

"when dangers near, exploit their fear" ~ Reefer Madness the Musical

I'd like to see it as a play, not as a musical. But it'd be a great piece.

I hated that Miramax decided to do their campaigning for The Cider House Rules over The Talented Mr. Ripley.

IMO, Ripley was a much better film in both style and substance. I thought Minghella should have won Best Screenpla, Law should have won Best Supporting Actor, and that this film should have been nominated for Best Picture...IMO, it was better than all of the movies that were nominated that year except for The Insider which is debatable.

ITA with those you think Paltrow did a fantastic job as Margie. It was definitely a thankless role, and yet Paltrow just showed us her true acting chops. (I'm in the minority that thinks Paltrow did give an Oscar-worthy performance in Shakespeare in Love and that she's a great actress).

"I've got to get me out of here This place is full of dirty old men And the navigators and their mappy maps And moldy heads and pissing on sugar cubes While you stare at your books."

captain... michael's score definitely fits the show. From what I have heard of the music he has written it is just taking a lot of the existing script and setting it to music so it flows well, in a creepy twisting type of way.

I loved this movie. and the book. It was Jude Law and Matt damon at their best. Both deserved nominations. Paltrow was good, but not exceptional. Blanchet was great.

I like Jude better back then. He now comes across as too covky.

I've heard a bit of Arden's music for his stage adaptation too, and it's brilliant -- captures the Hitchcock-esque feel of the movie very well. I believe Arden's opening progression of the song I heard are borrowed directly from Gabriel Yared's stunning movie score.

RIPLEY is a guilty pleasure of mine as well. the book was fun. one day i'll get around to reading the other highsmith/ripley books. but i really loved the gay overtones of the movie that don't really exist in the book. fans may want to check out RIPLEY's GAME on dvd, but i didn't think it was so hot. MALKOVICH plays a RIPLEY that is totally unlikeable and nasty. the appeal of TALENTED is the mixture of charm and madness that DAMON brings to the role.

One thing that I appreciated about Damon's performance (and the screenplay) was that no matter what Ripley did, you always understood why, if not necessarily agreed with it.

Exactly. The look on his face at the end when he realises he has to kill Peter is absolutely incredible. Everything you need to know about him is right there.

I remember not really like this movie when I saw it in the theater, but I think I was expecting it to be something completely different. I should watch it again (if only to see Jude and Matt).

I do believe that this was the first movie that I saw with Phillip Seymour Hoffman and I have been a fan ever since.

Enjoyed the movie enough to go out and get the book...enjoyed the book enough to read the others in the series. The novels were all quite good, IMO.

I think it's also appropriate to applaud Gabriel Yared's beautiful score (one that was not awarded by the AMPAS). His music, I feel, was essential to the film.

Anyone else find this movie incredibly sexy? The homoeroticism / homoromanticism between Ripley and Peter was delicious.

I thought it was a great movie. I'm a big fan of Matt Damon.
