Posted: 11/5/06 at 10:31pmWow... I haven't cried over any episode of any show in a LONG time, but there WAS something very powerful about this episode that had me on the verge of tears (not quite crying). I think what really got me was when Linette started giving the speech that they all have problems but they learn to deal with them. And then the ending with Linette's dream... Just wow.

Hey if Alfre Woodward got an emmy nod for locking her son in a basement then why not Laurie Metcalf?
I am certainly glad that it looks like Kyle Maclaughlin isn't going anywhere anytime soon, I have had a crush on that guy through Twin Peaks and Sex and the City.

JasonF. Not to sound rude at all. But I think it's YOUR fault for not getting anything from this episode.
How could you think they would write off a MAJOR character? I knew there was no way in hell, Gabby, Lynette, Bri, Susan or Edie would be killed. I figured it would be a minor charcter. It's your fault for expecting a major character go. I knew the producers would never write off a major character like that.
Laurie Metcalf definitely deserves some nominatitons for this. She was absolutely chilling.
I couldn't have gotten more from this episode, I am still in shock.

Just finished watching it.
Very intense! I am really enjoying this season, can't wait to see what happens the rest of the year.

Posted: 11/6/06 at 12:11amI thought that was the worst episode of Deperate Housewives I've seen. It was like an overdramatic soap opera or a silly action movie. It had a few smart moments (everyone going to Bree's hosue to watch), a few well-played, touching moments, but for the most part, I thought it was a total cop-out and real diversion from everything smart that usually exists onto the show. What a disappointment. It was so...televsion. Heh.

I agree with the general sentiment on this thread - this episode really got to me. Wow. I started crying about 45 minutes in and by the end, I was just sitting there sobbing. I rewound it, watched the last half a second time and it got me just as bad again.
I love Felicity Huffman, I have ever since Sports Night and I was so happy she finally got an episode like this and could show what she can do. She's absolutely amazing. Her character had been stuck in kind of a long, tired story line. She was so sweet taking care of a dying Nora, then so powerful a moment later.
I have a feeling that new neighbor (who threw the can) is going to be quite interesting in the coming episodes.
It was just very powerful, everyone's petty disputes or problem just all melted away at the end. And Lynette's new dream with Mary Alice was so moving.
Ok, better stop before I go on even longer. This season is off to such a great start, I can't wait to see what else is in store!!

Posted: 11/6/06 at 12:24amDH IS an overdramatic soap opera while being a semi-parody of the genre. That is exactly one of the reasons I loved this episode. At the same time, at best the show is anchored in honest acting and surprising writing which this episode demonstrated. I don't know how anyone could be unimpressed with the performances by Laurie Metcalf and Felicity Huffman in this episode. That scene was brilliant.

"It had a few smart moments (everyone going to Bree's hosue to watch)"
That was actually what I didn't like about the episode.
Great acting - Felicity just got her second Emmy...
I really like the whole 'carpe diem' theme of it - you never know what day will be your last, so "enjoy the beautiful afternoons - there are so few...."

I also LOVE that Cherry names every single episode from a Sondheim song!
Tonight, appropriately enough, was "Bang".

"DH IS an overdramatic soap opera while being a semi-parody of the genre."
More like a satire that doubles as a sort of soap-opera parody. Usually the absurdity of the show is actually really clever criticism of suburban America, but tonight's episode just diverted from all of that and went straight for the melodrama.
That's why I say everyone watching at Bree's house was one of the finer things. It's so true."Hey! Our town is on the news! A crime! Let's get together and watch."
The episode itself was woven together rather nicely, but it seemed like an overwhelming amount of pointless drama to me.

I have not been a devoted watcher of DH, but I catch it when I can. Tonight was the best episode I have ever seen. Rarely ever does something happen on a show that absolutely shocks me. (I didn't see any previews.) I looked at the set with my mouth open for at least 20 seconds. It really got me.

Posted: 11/6/06 at 1:11amTonights episode was the best cable shows I have seen. Very touching. Made the characters seem more real, as they did in the first season. Glad to see Desperate is back at being the cooler talk.

I was stuned by last night's episode. completely. I couldn't miss a second.
*SPOILERS*
My mother and I were watching it together and when Nora go shot, we literally sat there for five minutes with our hands over our mouths shouting "OH MY GOD!" over and over again. It was just so shocking. And then end completely had me in tears. Going oto bed was not an easy thing to do after that episode.
Next week's looks really good, though. But I'm really getting sick of the Susan's-daughter-and-Edie's-nephew storyline. It's lame. Just...don't.
Oh, and I really liked that Edie showed a little heart in last night's episode. When she wasn't looking after herself, bu the fact that Susan (who she hates) had a daughter in the store. I was very surprised, pleasantly though.

^ I agree. Last season was lackluster. It was just too much fluff, and it was very unrealistic.
And I think the writers/producers are really trying to make up for it. I'm sure they were very dissapointed not getting any major Emmy nominations last year. So I think they are really trying to produce some Emmy worthy material this season. It seems they are going to push Huffman for a nomination.

RobbOh2, Why would you want to get rid of Eddie's nephew?
I'm glad Nora is gone. I'm even happier that I wasn't aware that they were going to get rid of someone, so her getting killed was a complete surprise.

Edie's nephew is great eye candy...a total a$$hole though. hope they keep him around a bit longer. he is this season's "lawn boy."
I kind of felt bad for Nora when she got shot (probably because of Lynette's reaction), but ultimately, I'm glad she's dead.
I can't stop thinking about last night's episode!

Maybe lack of fore-knowledge that someone was going to die would have made the episode work for me more. The producers DID say that someone major would die.
Took me a bit of searching for articles from a couple of months ago, but this was all over the news during the summer previews for the season:
07/26 - From the Associated Press, via TV Guide, comes word from series creator Marc Cherry that a November storyline will involve a 'huge hostage situation in a supermarket,' that Lynette and several other primary characters will be present, that one character will be wounded, and that one lead will be killed. Source: Entertainment Weekly

Did you get a LEAD who dies? Hardly. We got a character dying who was more or less brought on at the end of least season for the purpose of being killed off last night. Like I said, not that I WANTED Tom or Carlos or any of them to die (I knew none of the housewives would bite it), at least that would have lived up to the hype a bit more.
