I enjoyed her maturity throughout the years, watching her on red carpets- And yes, she could hold a note. Also, her interviews were great and she came off as an intelligent woman that didn't need to show her coochie. The last two months have stifled me. I just can't find a way to respect her after some of those pictures. People seem to be forgetting- she's STILL a kid.
AT 20 years old, it's just a bit much. She was just a teenager a few months ago - and a huge role model for little girls everywhere and little girls just discovering Hannah Montana on DVD and reruns. She's not even legal to buy a drink- let alone be so forward about her smoking 'cigarettes', and taking these raunchy pictures that truthfully belong in Hustler magazine- smoking out of bongs and advocating drug use. I'm sorry- somewhere someone has to draw the line. And I blame her parents. She's still a kid. If my 20 year daughter did that, she would be grounded for a few years.

Despite the word teen at the end, when you turn 18, you are an adult. I'm sick of all this BS people try to give people who are between the ages of 18-20 excuses to acting like assholes or doing something stupid. Or having problems when they put the child act behind. If you can legally join the military and vote, you are not a child anymore. Granted, I am not a Miley fan and did think the VMA performance was gross, but she isn't a kid.

she is the female justin beiber. cute as a kid, bizarre and desperate as an adult when the lack of talent is more noticed. she also needs to clip those ears back.

she certainly makes you appreciate what Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez have become.

I can't believe I am going to write this but comparing Justin Bieber to Miley Cyrus just gives me the impression that troll knows next to nothing about pop music in 2013.

I am pretty certain Miley is constructing a persona. She's sure being aggressive about it and adding a specific image that I am not quite sure she understands could be seen as problematic in various ways, but she is being successful at plugging this record. And some of the songs are actually not bad to pretty good. I doubt without the image that would be such a polarizing statement but then again, I'd probably not even bother to listen had she not been aggressively putting out her image. So point goes to Miley.

And goodness Roxy, I am pretty sure a lot of the SNL demographic has an idea who Miley Cyrus is.

Strummer. I am curious . who would you compare Miley to certainly not katy perry, or gaga or reanna or taylor or lily allen or kate nash or even beyonce

Roxy doesn't get he's not a desirable demo for SNL.

I streamed the whole Miley album after work and there's only one crappy song. The rest are on the good to great continuum. Sonically, it's just as inventive as the Frank Ocean album.

Roxy, I take your point (and I hope you're wrong, too), but I have to say I haven't seen any of the clearly self-destructive behavior of Lohan or Winehouse.

I agree with those who say she's constructing a persona. It's totally fair to not like that persona--for the record, I don't--but I don't think she shows signs of spiraling out of control.

And I agree with Namo: I like her music.

I think Kelly's much more talented and smart. She'll be around for a while.

Miley has a lot more handlers, I'd imagine. I hope she's saving her pennies.

Good lord.

Amy (RIP) was talented and would've ruled when Adele was really peaking but goodness we were seeing somebody where her biggest hit became a punch-line because she could barely articulate or stand up in public. Miley has had almost nothing approaching that or Lindsay. Lohan wishes she had an equivalent to what Bangerz is doing. She's not Britney either (I think many people were comparing VMA/shedding their girl next door image to each other a lot). But I am guessing Miley working with somebody like Pharrell Williams means nothing to people like Roxy.

'We Can't Stop' was almost a Rihanna song and I could honestly imagine it as such. Jessy J also co-wrote 'Party in the USA' so Miley's been tied to pop for a while. I always see her in that mold. Kelly right out of the gate seemed more power-pop, Miley is exploring a lot of sub-genres even though I suspect she'll at some point return to her country roots.

I just am not into the VMAs twerk persona nor the whole 'Wrecking Ball' video. It is too try-hard but I do think she has put out some strong work.

Jungle red, I meant that Miley sounds a little like Kelly to me. Not in her voice, but in the type of song and the styling. I wasn't talking about smarts or the future.

We Can't Stop is dreadful. Wrecking Ball is dreadful. The videos to both are horrendous. I'm surprised to find people saying they like her stuff...to me, it seems like party music to get high to.

...and that's a bad thing? Listen, at my senior citizen phase of life I do not get high. On anything. But I like that kind of music. I guess judging by the charts, millions of people like it.
