iTunes is streaming her new album and I had time to listen to the first four songs this morning. Surprised to find I loved them.

I can't believe I am going to write this but comparing Justin Bieber to Miley Cyrus just gives me the impression that troll knows next to nothing about pop music in 2013.

I am pretty certain Miley is constructing a persona. She's sure being aggressive about it and adding a specific image that I am not quite sure she understands could be seen as problematic in various ways, but she is being successful at plugging this record. And some of the songs are actually not bad to pretty good. I doubt without the image that would be such a polarizing statement but then again, I'd probably not even bother to listen had she not been aggressively putting out her image. So point goes to Miley.

And goodness Roxy, I am pretty sure a lot of the SNL demographic has an idea who Miley Cyrus is.

Roxy doesn't get he's not a desirable demo for SNL.

I streamed the whole Miley album after work and there's only one crappy song. The rest are on the good to great continuum. Sonically, it's just as inventive as the Frank Ocean album.

'Lindsay Logan and Amy Winehouse'

Good lord.

Amy (RIP) was talented and would've ruled when Adele was really peaking but goodness we were seeing somebody where her biggest hit became a punch-line because she could barely articulate or stand up in public. Miley has had almost nothing approaching that or Lindsay. Lohan wishes she had an equivalent to what Bangerz is doing. She's not Britney either (I think many people were comparing VMA/shedding their girl next door image to each other a lot). But I am guessing Miley working with somebody like Pharrell Williams means nothing to people like Roxy.

'We Can't Stop' was almost a Rihanna song and I could honestly imagine it as such. Jessy J also co-wrote 'Party in the USA' so Miley's been tied to pop for a while. I always see her in that mold. Kelly right out of the gate seemed more power-pop, Miley is exploring a lot of sub-genres even though I suspect she'll at some point return to her country roots.

I just am not into the VMAs twerk persona nor the whole 'Wrecking Ball' video. It is too try-hard but I do think she has put out some strong work.

We Can't Stop is dreadful. Wrecking Ball is dreadful. The videos to both are horrendous. I'm surprised to find people saying they like her stuff...to me, it seems like party music to get high to.
