"ETA: Sorry Gotham, I didn't see your mention of the desk lamp size."
I think you posted while I was re-editing my original post.

Has everyone seen Cingular's commercial that does a parody of the movie. It's on the site that shall not be named.
I actually saw "A Christmas Story" in the movie theatre when it was first released.
Me and three other people were there in the audience.
No, I'm not joking. This movie did a very dismal business when it first came out, but I absolutely loved it. I told all my friends to go see it... and they did not.
My opinion hasn't changed one bit since my introduction to its many charms... but I was very glad to see the rest of the country "warm up to it" over the years.
It took 'em long enough!

It was a real sleeper show and really didn't become popular until it came out on video.
Well, I can beat that. I saw LOST HORIZON in a movie theater, with no other people. Of course, that's the way it should have been, for that. I saw A CHRISTMAS STORY in a theater, as well, and while I remember there being a lot more than 3 people, it was still not very well attended.
JB2---I saw Lost Horizon in the theatre TWICE!
Of coure I was ten years old, and didn't know any better. I still have a soft spot in my heart for that film and it's Bacharach/David score, and I still have the souvenir book that you could buy at the theatre!
I have the one from Finney's Scrooge too. (I was eight when I saw that one.)
And there were more people in the theatre each time for Lost Horizon (and WAY more for Scrooge) than there were for A Christmas Story.
I can't even begin how much I love this movie. It's a classic! I watch it every year on TBS during the 24 hr marathon! I have too many positive things to say about it, so i'll just stop there.
Me, the hubby, and the kids watch it faithfully every Christmas Day. (ok, bad grammar, sorry!)
All time classic.

I have never seen this, so this thread has been really interesting to read!
I love this movie. Saw it when it first came out in theaters, and try to see it at least once a year at this time.
"Eh, I'd rather it be Scott Farcas."
That's Scut Farkus.
Loves it!
I actually watched it today!
I love it!
So does my entire family on my mother's side (and that's a lot of people). A few years ago, one of my uncles actually made a leg lamp and brought it to the family Christmas in a box marked 'FRAGILE' and gave it to another of my uncles. It's been passed around every year at Christmas since then.
Aww! That's cute. Just remember that it's a major award!
