It's hilarious as hell and in my opinion, one of the greatest movies ever made . . . PERIOD!
I adore this movie (although I am a firm believer in the fact that playing it constantly before Christmas takes away the charm)! I think what's so appealing about it is that it's just a normal story, but we all kind of know that family, or, in some cases, are that family. Not to mention the unbelievably perfect casting!
I love this movie -- Darrin McGavin is brilliant.

what is it about this movie that makes people want to watch it?
I think it's the nicotine.

First of all, it's A Christmas Story. The Christmas Story was Jesus, Mary & Joseph.
I think a lot of people like it because it's nostalgic. It reminds them of their own childhood. Everyone can identify with wanting something really badly for Christmas and their parents playing "the waiting game".
The stories that the movie are based on are by Jean Shepherd. He was a wonderful storyteller and everyone should read his book "In God We Trust...All Others Pay Cash".
Honestly, I don't think it's funny anymore. Just burned out on it being on non-stop all month for the past few years.
I watch it for that kid who went on to be in "Boogie's Diner" and "Titus" (the TV series, not the movie).
Didnt Flick become a porn star?
Eh, I'd rather it be Scott Farcas.
That's the "Boogie's Diner"/"Titus" kid!

Doodle, Scott Schwartz? Yes he did! lol. Love the movie.
"Fra-gee-lay..."
It's ok, but I don't see the obsession, but to each their own!
Love it!
I do think the TBS marathon is a little overkill. I watched the last 45 minutes or so on TCM on Sunday...the first time without commercials, etc in years!
It's definitely up there with Christmas Vacation, Mixed Nuts (how can you NOT love Liev Schreiber in drag?), and The Ref on my list of anual must see holiday movies.
Apparently RiteAid was selling a leg lamp, but I didn't see it. If it was a little one, I think I would have been tempted to buy it!

It's not a lamp. It's a major award!

You can buy the lamp here.
A Christmas Story House

Ah yes, blueroses! And to think, he was pulling for a (deed to a) bowling alley!!!
I wish they sold little ones (like little desk lamp size)!

Oooh! You guys are too good to me! That night ligt is too much!!
Thanks a bunch!
Hallmark also has it as one of their ornaments this year
I think it's a fairly faithful representation of the 40's and 50's, and how things were, plus it's funny. That's why I like it. However, I prefer another Christmas film by the same director, BLACK CHRISTMAS.
