Would it have been just as funny if a gay comic starting telling race jokes during a standup routine?
Sorry, but that's such a white person thing to say. There are black gay men too, and comments like this present this weird binary that makes it sound like all black people are straight, and all gay people are white. Neither rant is acceptable, and if your point is that the gay person would be attacked more than Morgan, I don't think that's necessarily true. Morgan is clearly in the wrong here, and it has nothing to do with his race, and everything to do with the fact he decided to use homophobia as a source of humor, and like JerseyGirl said, he basically used it to make money for himself which is a real shame. His apology is pretty weak I have to say. Not sure if a statement is enough when you make those kinds of comments...this sucks, I think he's incredibly hilarious on 30 ROCK.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
Now, he is apologizing...you know, I love when you make a mistake an have the honesty to apologize in your private life. But public apologies are never too sincere and this is one of the things that once you said them, you can't take it back or apologize for them. Sorry my ass, you are just afraid you can't keep your A-list Hollywood lifestyle anymore and will lose your gig, that's why you say you're sorry! If he didn't think these things for real he'd never EVER say the,.

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter
I am still not satisfied. I want NBC to make a statement condemning his hate rant. I want him to make a donation to a gay charity. I want his cast mates to speak out against his hate and other celebrities. Isaiah Washington didn't even go as far as Tracy did and he really got hell for his slur. Tracy has to do more than just say"I'm sorry now lets move on' before I let it go.

why, romantico? it's clear to me from the content of his message that this is the way he honestly feels. it therefore seems to me that any number of apologies will be just as empty (i.e., he's just sorry he was caught). you can send a message to NBC by refusing to support any of their projects with which he is affiliated.
You are right. I am sure this is how he feels and his "apology" was based on his career and income. I can almost hear Tracey apologizing as Tracy Jordan(is there a difference?) Would not be surprised if his publicist wrote up the apology for him and released it before even telling him.
What if a Comedian who had a hit show did some hateful rants in their act related to Jews or African Americans or Hispanics? Would all be forgiven as long as they apologize? I wish more action could be taken but if he has issued an 'apology' I guess there is not much more that can be done. Just not sure if I can see his character on 30 Rock the same way now.

My friend said she wanted to see the women of The View talk about this because they tend to defend comedians. I have no doubts that Sherrie would back him up. I am not so sure about Whoopi.
Pretty pretty please don't you ever ever feel like you're less than f**ckin' perfect!
A friend of mine said Tina Fey should have his character next season come out of the closet and admit he has been gay all along. In my opinion, I think this would be great.

See everyone? He apologized! For his "choice of words".
We all can rest easy now.

I wondered what the tone is supposed to be for Alec Baldwin's tweet. I don't think he's necessarily excusing Tracy. I also don't think he's some sort of monster for calling his daughter a pig on a voicemail that her mother later leaked to the press.
I agree with PRS. I am assuming Baldwin is personally caught wanting to say something but cannot because it is a colleague. Sort of like how Jon Cryer stayed silent or had a muted tone to whatever he said during the Charlie Sheen-CBS issue.
I used to think that Tracy was just playing a persona in an Andy Kauffman-esque sort of way. From people not associated with 30 Rock, he seemed to 'stay in character' just saying random non sequiturs all the time. Then I saw his HBO special and was pretty jarred by how raunchy it was and faux-edgy. I still think he pretty much takes on a persona but that persona has been both his golden egg and a curse. I felt like that horrific HBO special was like an exorcism from him to remove Tracy Jordan from our minds, and I think most people, including myself, did not like what they saw.
Tina Fey's statement - I’m glad to hear that Tracy apologized for his comments. Stand-up comics may have the right to ‘work out’ their material in its ugliest and rawest form in front of an audience, but the violent imagery of Tracy’s rant was disturbing to me at a time when homophobic hate crimes continue to be a life-threatening issue for the GLBT Community. It also doesn’t line up with the Tracy Morgan I know, who is not a hateful man and is generally much too sleepy and self-centered to ever hurt another person. Fey continued: “I hope for his sake that Tracy’s apology will be accepted as sincere by his gay and lesbian coworkers at 30 Rock, without whom Tracy would not have lines to say, clothes to wear, sets to stand on, scene partners to act with, or a printed-out paycheck from accounting to put in his pocket. The other producers and I pride ourselves on 30 Rock being a diverse, safe, and fair workplace. Entertainment Weekly
I have mixed feelings about this. I did think he crossed a line. And I'm glad he apologized, and I accept that, and I'm more or less done.
But it occurs to me that I actually do need great comedians (and I'm not saying he is one) to tread into dangerous territory, to push boundaries and potentially offend. And I think we all get to decide what we're okay with.
I saw Joan Rivers live for the first time last year, and I was shocked at how, well, shocking she was. And I came away grateful for it.
So I guess my bottom line is: I want comedians to test the boundaries; I want them to shock; I want them to be unafraid . . . And I'm glad when they have a moment where they go "Okay, I see I reached--or crossed--a boundary here. Let's acknowledge that and carry on."
The guy did a bad standup routine. Is it that slow a newsday? Maybe he will tour with Weiner.
Grow a set of balls folks and move on.
This will be old news in 10 minutes."
I'm sorry but when so many gay teens recently are killing themselves because of fear of their sexuality and how people will treat them the last thing other kids need is to hear the junk that comes out of his mouth.
It was not just the homophobia but the bit about bullying that really hit me. The celeb world has really embraced the It Get's Better campagin to try and show thse kids that everything is going to be fine, then we hear this one trick pony talk about stabbing your gay kids and the gays should shut up moaning about being bullied.
The guy is a grade A tit, i'm a huge fan of 30 Rock but i won't be watching the show again with him on it. If he thinks that saying sorry in some celeb press release makes up for it he's wrong. Luckily once the show leaves the air he will vanish anyway as he has very little talent.
Namo i love u but we get it already....you don't like Madonna
