I recieved this e-mail today and thought it was interesting enough to share....
Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846.
John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946.
Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860.
John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960.
Both were particularly concerned with civil rights.
Both wives lost their children while living in the White House.
Both Presidents were shot on a Friday.
Both Presidents were shot in the head.
Now it gets really weird.
Lincoln's secretary was named Kennedy.
Kennedy's Secretary was named Lincoln.
Both were assassinated by Southerners.
Both were succeeded by Southerners named Johnson.
Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808.
Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908.
John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1839.
Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939.
Both assassins were known by their three names.
Both names are composed of fifteen letters.
Now hang on to your seat.
Lincoln was shot at the theater named 'Ford.'
Kennedy was shot in a car called 'Lincoln' made by 'Ford.'
Lincoln was shot in a theater and his assassin ran and hid in a warehouse.
Kennedy was shot from a warehouse and his assassin ran and hid in a theater.
Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials.
A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland
A week before Kennedy was shot, he was with Marilyn Monroe.

Posted: 5/4/05 at 12:18amIt doesn't change the strangeness of the coincidences, which I have always found chilling, but Oswald was born Oct 18, 1939 while Booth was born May 10, 1838.

And to make it ON topic...
A few years ago, the Japanese production of PACIFIC OVERTURES that played at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C. also played at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in NYC.
What's even weireder is that the same guy who wrote PACIFIC OVERTURES wrote another musical which depicts both the Lincoln and Kennedy assassinations!
OOOOOHHHH - SCARY!
Jon - who truly thinks it would be totally cool if a production of ASSASSINS were mounted at Ford's Theatre.

i used to have a bookmark with these facts, also in junior high. i was fascinated with the Kennedy and Lincoln assissinations, for some reason. It led me to read many books on the two Presidents. When ASSASSINS came out, that early fascination was wonderfully rewarded.
The teaching of American history could use many more "hooks" like that to intrigue young minds. It's a dying art (good teaching).

#14re: eerie... Lincoln/Kennedy connections
Posted: 5/4/05 at 3:21pmi love snopes, and I really like that they correct the inaccuracies but the fact of both Presidents who were elected in 1960 being assassinated is odd and eerie in and of itself. I don't hold any creedance to it, but that fact alone is enough to make this interesting. As someone said we need hooks, unfortunately, to get people interested in history. I always enjoyed this one.

I used to have a penny with Kennedy's head engraved on it looking at Lincoln and it came with a card that had this listed. (This is from the 1970's).
Also, both had spendthrift wives.
PS: The MARILYN MONROE entry is not true. Marilyn died in August 1962, Kennedy was shot in November 1963. SHEESH, at least the person who thought that one up could have done a bit of research.

Posted: 5/4/05 at 5:32pmThat's all well and good but, how many attempts does it take to connect each of them to Kevin Bacon? If they both had the same Bacon rating, I would really creeped out.

Didn't both of their secretaries try to tell them not to go to where they went when they were assassinated? Or was that just Kennedy's?
I've seen this before too, but it's still creepy.

urban myths are that the secretaries urged them not to go, or that their wives urged them not to see the play/have the motorcade. It's hard to prove or disprove such things.
My personal theory is that Booth was really fuming over having been rejected by Lincoln for that captain of the guard protecting POTUS who used to share the First Bed when Mary Todd was out of town.

Lincoln CAN'T have a Bacon rating since he died before the invention of motion pictures.
JFK has a Bacon number of 1 - since JFK was in the movie "JFK" (in the Zapruder film) with Kevin Bacon!
