Their advertising is focused on the newness of it, but the material has existed for more than fifteen years and shouldfall under the "classics" rule (if HEDWIG and BLACKBIRD are revivals...)"
My thoughts exactly -- it's not "new"

You’ve said this four times now"

I also thought it was dead, but they're getting the $$ together to bring it back...

Trading Places is still looking for a theater/investors as well. They could sneak in for Spring since the show is ready.
I now have confirmation from my source that Purlie Victorious will close in February, with Suffs taking the Music Box for the spring.
Producers are seriously sweating. There isn't enough audience members and $$$ for every show. Every new show is basically a musical. Those that didn't get in for the spring are now looking to move to next summer/fall. Which is CRAZY.
It did sound like Leslie Odom Jr was planning on leaving PV in January, but the show would run to February. Didn't get clarification on that.
Welcome to the Broadway Hunger Games...
They should be sweating. Nothing new seems to have caught fire with audiences and not sure anything incoming is going to either.

Arguably, post-MWRA, there are maybe -- if you stretch it -- 3 or 4 people who will sell tickets, but not a lot, and both shows they represent are limited engagements.
The ensemble shows, e.g., Outsiders, Spamalot, Ohio, Harmony are going to have to get spectacular reviews to have a prayer. Days is going to have very limited appeal, even if their stars sell some tickets.
i don't believe there are any folks who are going to sell tickets to Water and The Notebook, other than maybe the latter's composer and the title.
I have tickets to Merrily, Here We Go and Harmony for my next trip in October. I only got Harmony because of last's years NYT review and the fact that the only non-musicals that have any appeal are PV and Ja Ja's, for both of which I have tickets.
The only ones coming later that excite me even a speck are The Notebook (new Broadway composer who has written strong songs in the past) and Cabaret. Re The Wiz, may change my mind if the reviews are great, but it seemed very dated the last time i saw it live, and on the televised production a few years back, which I really detested.
If I am representative of a wider audience, that is bad.
There's a lot of premature speculation here about shows that won't catch on. Did Dear Evan Hansen seem like it would be a big hit when it was in development? Come From Away? Hadestown?
New work can always surprise with audiences. Even though I wouldn't put them in the same category as the shows listed above, it's not like Kimberly Akimbo or Shucked have been huge flops.
That being said, I do think the sheer number of new musicals could be a potential problem (for ticket sales, not for theater lovers). Obviously some are not going to break through. I just hope many do so the narratives doesn't become that original work can't succeed...

Dear Evan Hansen was a sold out off-Broadway transfer with a leading performance that was considered a must see. Come From Away had done a mini tour of sorts and had great word of mouth. Hadestown had a hit off Broadway run and a successful run in the West End and had terrific buzz.
None of the shows coming in or this past season really reached that status, yet. We shall see!
