A choice between 13 or Pal Joey? This sounds like masochism to me. See Gypsy -- I've seen 'em all since Merman and LuPone is the one who comes closest. Treat yourself.
As stated before, the OP has already seen Gypsy
At least 13 kept me awake...
yes, the shrill annoying teeny-bopper screams (isn't that what "Singing" is these days?) coming from the stage would keep me awake too
No TheCharleston. Because I found it mildly entertaining. And better their singing than the noise coming from Stockard Channing's mouth they're trying to pass off as singing.

TheCharleston, I find it interesting how you never answered about if you have ever seen '13'.
AdamBritten, Josh doesn't "rescue me" all the time.
Maybe we just have the same taste.

yes! you both have a real love for the taste of garbage
If you had to pick between the two, I'd go with Pal Joey.

Again, avoiding the question.
So I'm going to take that as a "no".
I would usually just say :see it first before you go around bad mouthing it" but I think this covers it for you...

Ok, well i ended up going with the suggestion to see BOEING BOEING, and I am sure as hell glad I did! Probably my favorite show I've seen this trip, with THE 39 STEPS in a very, very close second. I'll give a full review later, but I ended up buying a $20 box seat. I had the one closest to the stage, and the view SUUUCKED. Very obstructed. But I moved down to the last row of the orchestra during intermission, so it was all good. =] Definitely wish I had seen this show earlier, its really too bad its closing so soon! =[

I think some of your repliers are not being helpful to you. Everybody looks for different things in shows. Of course there is nothing wrong with seeing either of the shows you mentioned. Sure, the critics liked other shows more, and of all the shows on Broadway, I doubt that very many people would select the two you mention as priority shows to see. That being said, I can tell you I have seen the shows. I enjoyed both Pal Joey and 13. You will find good things to appreciate in either. 13 is designed as a show for young teens (which the critics forget. It was never meant to be the next Gypsy or South Pacific. It has a catchy upbeat score with some lovely moments. The young cast is absolutely terrific and having a ball. The storyline will appeal to young teens or anybody who remembers high school with either affection or dismay. Pal Joey has 3 splendid ladies fronting it, so it doesn't matter that much that just maybe the show might have been better with Hugh Jackman or Harry Connick. It has a classic score, some nimble dancing, and a nicely cynical core that matches up well with Chicago. Pal Joey will not send you out in the streets with a big smile on your face, but it will give you a little something to think about and you will be humming "Bewitched, Bothered..." 13 won't send you out pondering life's mysteries, but you will have a darn good time. GO SEE WHAT YOU WANT. That's my motto, and I am very seldom diisappointed.
