No Ethan Slater recognition is shocking to me. I wonder how this will bode toward his Tony campaigns.
Interesting that both Patti and Jelani got nominated but no Caissie. Guess that goes to show the size and impact of the role?

Denise Gough and Ethan Slater not being nominated is bizarre but typically these awards are.
That being said, I'd like to see Michael Urie win this one for two great performances this season.

Surprised Farinelli and The Children didn't get in for Best Play
So happy for My Fair Lady, Ambrose and Paton getting the nominations. ![]()
Ethan Slater not getting a nomination confuses me quite a bit - physically, the role is a feat. Vocally, while doing the physical, it is as well.
IMO, Denise Gough and Ethan Slater not being nominated but Patti Murin getting nominated is a blight on these awards.
The fact that they nominated Jelani Alladin over Cassie Levy for Frozen makes me wonder whether Disney is regretting petitioning for both Levy and Murrin to be considered jointly for Lead Actress in a musical. It kind of reminds me when Disney petitioned to have Jeremy Jordan, Kara Lindsey, and Ben Fankhauser to all be considered leads for Newsies when its clear that Jack Kelly is the lead. This essentially killed any chance for Lindsay to be nominated in against in a season so competitive for Best Actress that even Bernadette Peters didn't get nominated. When if she was allowed to compete in the featured Actress category she was guaranteed a nomination and could of possibly won. The category for featured actress was so weak in 2012 that they nominated Elizabeth A. Davis from Once for playing the violin. I know Elsa is the more popular character, but its clearly Anna's story.
Double post.
The Ethan Slater and Denise Gough snubs are shocking. Also interesting that Jelani Alladin got in for FROZEN over Caissie Levy.
Thrilled for Laura Benanti. Also interesting that METEOR SHOWER got in over JUNK.
I was shocked not to see Grey Henson, but KPOP was a huge hit which I'm sure helped Ashley Park. The MEAN GIRLS producers would be smart to put Louderman in Featured.

As much as I love Kara Lindsay, she was hardly "guaranteed" a nomination in the featured slot. I don't think it matters what category Levy is in, a nomination seems unlikely.

Using the words "thrilled" and "shocked" in any post relating to the Drama League nominations is a bit much, don'tcha think??
To many of the nominees, it's nothing more than a 4-hour luncheon they have to sit (and smile) through.
You're right, JSquared2.
But, Slater and Gough are still pretty big misses. The other things I pointed out, not so much.

Sad that "Junk" and "1984" didnt get in for Play. Or even "Pipeline" or "Admissions" for that matter.
Also sad that there's no Jamie Parker on that list. His performance was perhaps my favorite of the whole year. I definitely would have put him in over Dumezweni.
And I echo the bafflement of no Denise Gough. I could maybe understand it if it was just Angels. But what about PP&T? Was that maybe not eligible? Or did the nominators not see it?
I'd say this is a three person race between: Billie Piper, Glenda Jackson and Andrew Garfield.
Interesting that Summer got some love.
I also noticed Butz for MFL and Lindsay Mendez missing, who seem likely to actually win the Tonys in their respective categories.
And I think Ashley Park got nominated for KPOP, not really Mean Girls (if that makes sense).
I believe Butz has won before, and is therefore ineligible.
Peter Friedman's absence is very surprising to me. Same with Jame Brewer and Edi Gathegi (Jesus Hopped the A Train).
I'm glad to see MaameYaa Boafo and Chukwudi Iwuji made it in though. I thought they were both incredible in their respective shows, but I thought they might be overlooked.

You are right! My mistake.
Also worth noting for anyone who doesn’t know - only two performers can be nominated from a single production.

No Ethan Slater for ''SpongeBob SquarePants''? I'm betting he'll get a Tony nomination and a Theatre World. ... Other omissions are probably due to the limit of 2 performers per show.
''Angels in America'': Andrew Garfield and James McArdle get nominated, but not Denise Gough.
''Frozen'': Jelani Alladin and Patti Murin get nominated, but not Caissie Levy.
''Harry Potter'': Anthony Boyle and Noma Domenzweni get nominated, but not Jamie Parker.
The League often loves movie stars, but no Michael Cera (''Lobby Hero'' ) or Uma Thurman (''The Parisian Woman'' ).
And no Bryonha Marie Parham or Tony Yazbeck, who both got raves for ''Prince of Broadway.''
The Denise Gough omission is okay by me because she'll easily win the Tony, where James McArdle doesn't have a chance against Lane and/or Boyle.
Ethan Slater's omission is shocking to me.
Among a litany of utterly stupid awards, the Drama League take the cutglass flyswatter. I wonder how many votes one needs to make the ridiculously bountiful cut.

Happy to see Johnny Flynn make the list! One of my favorite performances of the season.
I agree that no Ethan Slater is shocking. And frankly, kind of absurd.
Hoooooooooooooold on a second. Denise Gough didn't get in for Angels, okay--there's a lot of competition in that show for only two nominations. But she didn't get in for People, Places and Things? And no Ethan Slater for SpongeBob? But they think JOSHUA JACKSON deserves a nomination? There are other performances on that list I didn't love (Juan Castano, Jessie Mueller, Michael Urie), but those two missing is absurd. And hold on a second...Urie got in but Mercedes Ruehl didn't? Nevermind: this list is nonsense. Now they can only solve it by giving the award to the very best of the bunch: Billie Piper. (I know it will never happen)
Is it possible that St. Ann's didn't invite any nominators this season? I noticed Nina Hoss's exquisite performance in Returning to Reims is also missing.
Gough should have been nominated for PP&T regardless. The truest race would be between Gough (PP&T) and Piper (Yerma). The two best of the season with Jackson not far behind.
And McArdle shouldn't be hidden under Lane. His performance trumped Lane's for the most part - despite Cohn being seen as a "better" role. McArdle shines brighter than Lane. Made more of a difficult and often unlikeable part. The Olivier's thought so too, as did we. We haven't seen Parker but McArdle's performance was stronger for us.
