Kinda suprised at all the Prince of broadway love. Newell should get a nom and no set design for OOTI?? Also suprised Kerry butler was nominated. And super shocked at all the spongebob love.

I'm really surprised that Frozen got shut out for the design categories. I though that Natasha Katz's lighting would be a lock for nomination and also kinda surprised that it didn't get nominated for set design, sound design or costumes either
I am happy for Tony Yazbeck's nominated but where is James McArdle!?
It's also very weird that Michael Urie was nominated for Government Inspector and not Torch Song. I mean, he was great in both but I figured Torch Song had more attention.

Not all that surprised at set or sound but I did think it would at least get lights and costumes.
These nominations are almost always off-kilter with what's to come. Last year, ANASTASIA had something like 9 nominations, and then got bitch-slapped at the Tonys. It's almost always because the Off-Broadway transfers aren't eligible a second time, and when THE BAND'S VISIT gets thrown into the mix, a lot of the higher nominated shows here will get bumped a few pegs down.
Thrilled for Yazbeck as he was the best parts of PRINCE OF BROADWAY, bar none.
I'm very mad at the glaring omission of anything TORCH SONG, especially Urie. Maybe it'll come through next season?
Wonder if it will be possible to see Gattelli nominated twice for the tony awards as well.

I’m appalled Noma wasn’t nominated for Harry Potter. I figured she was a shoe-in for everything!
There are a lot of weird nominations here (as always with the OCC), but Butler and Park getting nominated above Kate Rockwell for Mean Girls is bizarre to me.
James McArdle's absence is also confusing.

Over Denise Gough? no way.
There are things I'm happy about (yay, Spongebob!) and things I'm not. But can we talk about how utterly baffling THIS category is?
Outstanding Featured Actor In A Musical
Norbert Leo Butz, My Fair Lady
Alexander Gemignani, Carousel
Gavin Lee, Spongebob Squarepants
Nick Wyman, Desperate Measures
Tony Yazbeck, Prince Of Broadway
I'll give you Lee and Butz. I adore Tony Yazbeck, but....for Prince of Broadway? I barely even remember Gemignani in Carousel (and I'm a fan!). I haven't seen Nick Wyman so can't comment. But...Grey Henson? Alex Newell? Philip Boykin? There were REMARKABLE performances in this category, and they gave two nominations to actors whose work I have so admired...elsewhere. Hopefully Henson and Newell especially will get noticed by the Tony's.
And just because other people are commenting on it: I think Urie is a tremendous stage actor but was terribly miscast and not wonderful in Torch Song. Fully excited for his Government Inspector nod, though.
Surprised OOTI did not rack up more, but I’m happy to see Clint Ramos recognized. I hope he wins a second Tony for his ingenious costume design.
Also happy to see plays wind up in typically musical categories, like Harry Potter in score and choreography and Farinelli for orchestrations. Again hope the Tonys follow suit.

I don’t disagree with this choice at all. I thought they both were the two complete stand outs in the show.

I thought Noma was lead and Denise was supporting. I don’t have a problem with Gough winning over her, but she should have been nominated. I also agree Gemignani was not deserving for this performance over Hansen or Newell.
weird and somewhat oblivious, the former by virtue of tradition and the latter by virtue, dare I say, of the painfully skewed demographic of the nominators. Am I right that they are all white males of an average age approaching social security territory?
I trust YERMA was not eligible. The alternative would be damning to the Outer Critics Circle.
At least MARGARITAVILLE got a best Musical nom.
So glad that Hack O'Brien was left off the list.

It's certainly possible in this year full of lackluster dances. Even if he is nominated for one or both, my guess is Justin Peck will take it for the sheer volume of work in CAROUSEL. Though I wouldn't dismiss Camille A. Brown who gave ONCE ON THIS ISLAND its distinctive swag.

I think it was eligible, but they refused to give all the voters tickets so it would have made it not possible for every voter to vote in each category it had been nominated in.

Where the heck is Billie Piper? And why no Denise G. in People, Places and Things?

The biggest shook for me is the fact that almost half of the Mean Girls cast got a nom with inner competition, but Henson who had no inner competition was left-out.
And how funny that we debate for so long between Weed or Rockwell, or maybe both, but they went with Park AND Butler LOL
Almost half of the nominees (15 to be true) are not Tony-eligible, but I really hope that the cast of Harry Potter, Once on this Island and Angels in America gets more love than the obvious players.
Margaritaville getting a Best Musical nom wtf

Maybe it was those Florida critics that decided to vote en masse.
Anyone else think this bodes extremely well as far as Murin > Levy for the Tony nom?

I agree. At this rate, I’m predicting the Tony category will consist of Ambrose, Kilgore, Lenk, Louderman, and Murin.
