Seeing the nominations, I think we are in for another season where the Tony love is widely dispersed and no one show racks up a high count - except for maybe a revival.
I really do think the momentum is trending in Schmigadoon's favor. There is a lot of industry love for that show that I don't think should be underestimated, and while it is an adaptation it has from the beginning been a love letter to the broadway musical art form (and some will say the musical is the material at its best).
Two Strangers, while wholly original, is not anything close in caliber to the past original winners of recent memory. I think there is a lot of "original" bias happening on this board right now. Just because something may be wholly original, it is not de-facto "better." Most of the greatest musical theatre properties of all time are adapted material. Heck, the whole industry wouldn't exist without it - and I think that is important to remember as I see people criticize shows that are based on this and that.
