I am loving the trend of not honoring movie stars that come here for a few months, and except a bunch of awards for turning in such average performances. It happened last year with Denzel and George, and it happened this year with Adrien. I just thank God he has no chance of winning and gives the longest speech in the history of the Tonys. Celebrities invested in it because it seemed like a sure thing. Seeing Kim K and her plastics at the show the day before the Met was hilarious. The last time she had anything to with Broadway was watching The Cher Show while her sociopathic husband ruined the experience for everyone around him and was called out by the actors on stage. Hilarious.
Beaches and Queen of Versailles were never going to get nominated for anything as someone wisely pointed out a few weeks ago. Shows that get absolutely panned rarely nominate the actors involved. Stephen Schwartz is sad today but I have full confidence he will be just fine!
Becky Shaw was such a phenomenal play and Alden Ehrenreich was simply born to do it.
Ragtime. Eleven Tony nominations. Brilliant in every way that a show can be, and I hope it takes them all.
I think Two Strangers Carrying a Cake Across New York will win Best Musical with The Lost Boys close behind.
I never bought into the Sydney hype for a nomination. There's just not enough there in the roll for it to actually be nominated. He does what all Tuggers do, be hot and sing well.
100% agree. Especially when everyone else in that category gave a much better overall performance.
Congratulations to both Heather Gilbert and Linda Cho for their two nominations each!
Lastly, I wanted to give a shout out to Layton Williams who was my favorite part of Titanique. Just phenomenal and deeply funny.
A strange year full of many stunning performances! Congratulations to all.

TotallyEffed: When I saw Hannah Cruz in The Connector, I knew she was a star on the rise.
Agree. Felt especially so when she rode that headless horse in Suffs too. (Glad they added the horse’s head later.) I had been rooting for Hannah to get the role of Florence.

I haven't seenThe Lost Boys, and I know it's divisive, but this is her third Tony nom in five years, and all have been in this category. I feel like she could have an "overdue" narrative of sorts that leads her to a win."
Yeah, she's been my predicted winner for a little while now. Nichelle's performance is divisive, Cruz's role is small, and Rachel Dratch certainly isn't getting it. I guess Ana Gasteyer could be a dark horse, but all signs point to a Shoshana career recognition Tony to me."
Cruz' s role might be small but she and Nicholas Christopher are the only standouts in this current revival of Chess. Hanna nails the accent and steals every scene she's in. She completely outshined Lea on stage, despite both being phenomenal vocalists. I'm rooting for her."
I can only imagine Michele and Cruz singing together for the first time tonight. Dramaaaa...

I would guess they notify the cast tonight for a May 10 or May 17 closing, depending on how much money they have in the bank.

Nope, just stronger overall performances by other women. She is a stunning singer but Florence is a flat character. I loved her performance, but the five other women were better.
And men pinning professional women against each other who have always actively routed for one another and are friends? So boring and sexist. Get a new storyline.

Nobody cares what you think of The Lost Boys. Literally nobody. You clearly didn't get the role, you were rejected, whatever. Months and months of trashing one of the most exciting musicals this year and yet seeing it dozens of times? Get a life and move on.

I don't know. I'm getting strong "Outsiders" vibes from "Lost Boys." Mix-positive reviews, a killer set design, ShoBean, and ripe for young fanbase.
"
But even Outsiders didn't get as many negative reviews as LB did.

I bet CHESS somehow muscles its way into a performance. And I bet it comes across really well on the telecast and might even sell more tickets than the nominated shows.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I would've preferred anyone else besides Nichelle or Hannah in Featured. Nichelle didn't really register for me at all, and Hannah was lovely singing but maybe it was the role itself, but it didn't do much for me.
Otherwise, all the other nominees were pretty spot on.

Let's be realistic here, none of the performances will sell tickets.
I'll make my award predictions as per usual, but chances are I won't be watching this year. There's still a chance NBC flexes Yankees-Red Sox for the Sunday Night Baseball game that day.

To anyone who understands storytelling through choreography, it’s not surprising Latarro has yet to receive a nomination. The movements she strings together to whatever counts she’s decided on are insane. The Chess choreography was the worst element of that show. Everything she does is too try hard and manic. Over dancing does not equal awardable choreography.

YOU get a life. It's not wrong that I don't think it wins lighting. It's not the best lighting of the season. Period. There are better shows than LB's lighting. I'm sorry you see it differently. But it's true. Shaft of light lighting & direct to audience is not a difficult task. Other shows are built and cued better. Get a life.

and now folks are beginning to let her direct which is confounding.

Go easy on CB y'all - they have no idea how to reconcile Ali getting a Tony nomination when he’s actually gonna pull out of the show and not do it at all…
But seriously TWELVE nominations for a show that doesn’t even have the money to open. The little show that could 😉

Haha. I didn't even remember they said Ali was leaving the show over and over again. Slamming the show hundreds of times "We don't think it should be on Broadway, it will bomb!" to then saying, "We didn't care for it but we are going opening night, we are going again, we are going again comped" Blah blah blah blah. Slamming a show obsessively and then obsessively going to that show? I'm not sure I'm the one that needs to get a life here.....
Same with that weirdo who kept slamming Boop! last year, clearly losing a role drives some people crazy.
12 nominations. Suck it🧛🏽 🦇
