The Rockettes do five 90-minute shows a day seven days a week when the Christmas Spectacular is being presented, although to be fair they are double cast and each Rockette usually does "only" 17 or 18 shows a week.

When Gilbert, Sullivan and D'Oyly Carte finally brought their official production of H.M.S. Pinafore to New York, the piece was already so popular that there eight unauthorized productions already playing within five blocks of each other and six more in Philadelphia. (International copyright law was primitive for stage works in the 1870's and hard to enforce.)
