How disturbing. :-/
I was fortunate enough to have seen this last month and thought it was a lovely show. It was a very nice evening at the theatre. I enjoyed it (Catered Affair) more than both In the Heights and Passing Strange. Nothing wrong with either of those shows, just not to my taste.
Well, I'm seeing Curtains final show, maybe I'll see ACA again before it closes. Good luck to the cast and crew, and a giant thank you to Harvey F.
Noooooo!!!
I loved this show! I loved this score! I love John Doyle!
Hope the cast and crew go on to do some more great work.

^Same! (To yankeefan) Honestly, not everyone who enjoys musical theater likes watching all of broadway's leading men exposing everything they possibly can while still appropriate enough for children! Still, I'm really saddened by this matter (A Catered Affair, though the gay stereotype does upset me quite) and it really makes me wonder whether art can exist on Broadway anymore...
Still, what's next? Another play? MAYBE Curtains will transfer?

I could so see 9 to 5 fitting perfectly in this theater...although thinking about this gem of a show closing is really sad. And thinking of a show to replace it is even more sad.
Oh what the hell...
Well, at least it got to Broadway (which is more than can be said for plenty of other shows), and the beautiful score has been preserved.
I honestly don't understand why it's closing...maybe the days after the Tonys had a sharp decrease in ticket sales? It was doing very well, especially for a show that was shut out by the Tonys and got mixed to negative marks from the critics.
no!! i saw this show 8 days ago and loved it! it was almost sold out, just a few empty seats in the upper balcony. it was a great show and i'm so sad that its closing
i could see this closing notice was in the wings. i thought they would've fought at least till the end of the summer but Harvey is right when he mentioned the long life this show will lead in other venues. it's far from a perfect show but it's not a BAD musical. it just didn't gain as much momentum as people would've liked.
i like listening to the cast recording every once & awhile and reliving the beautiful vocals Leslie and Faith share together. i bid it adieu and am thankful that i got to see it.
was in shock when i just read this show is closing. i agree it def deserved crybabys best musical nomination. i will def go before it closes and also to see leslie kritzer, thats the only reason i wanted to see this show.
i hope leslie has something planned as soon as this show closes. i wish her the best in her career.
This is a shocker. It was doing very well. It's sad. I urge anyone who hasn't seen to to please do so. It isn't perfect, but it's very intimate and very well done and didn't deserve this fate. Oh well.
I'm so sorry to hear this. I haven't had a chance to see it, but from what I've heard, it sounded really appealing.

Harvey-Please spare us those pathetic homosexual characters next go around- they are tired. Stick to drag which you know so well. Stop whining- the show was an unadulterated FLOP and snoozefest.
I can't believe it's closing... I really enjoyed it. But, does anyone else see a correlation between Matt Cavenaugh in a show at the Walter Kerr Theatre and that show announcing a closing soon after the Tonys?
This is very unexpected. Beautiful show with a beautiful score, well at least we have the cast recording.
I feel many of these shows are feeling the push of the many upcoming theater-less shows.
Oh sure. Matt Cavenaugh is the Carmen Mathews of 21st century Broadway.
Matt Cavenaugh certainly played the same character in both shows, if anything!
Wow. It won the Drama League for Best Musical and 12 Drama Desk nnods, yet it's closing.
Gee... this feels oddly "Grey Gardens" to me...
Same theater, similarly "darker" or more dramatic toned Musical closing during the summer months of its first year
I'm hoping to see this with my mother ASAP as she is pretty much the model of what Leslie plays (a Bronx girl getting married in the 50's).
It's closing the exact same weekend GARDENS closed last year.
except, let's not get this wrong: Grey Gardens was AMAZING. this show is "good" but not great like Grey Gardens
Wow. This is really a surprise. It's a shame the show couldn't hold on any longer. I do agree that it deserved Cry-Baby's Tony nominations for Best Musical and Score.

Right, let's not compare it to Grey Gardens, which was so much better.
As much as I didn't enjoy the show, it's sad that so many shows are closing, but that's just the business.
I'm so glad I'll get to see it before it closes...good luck to the cast/crew!

Most depressing news EVER.
I'm really upset.
I was between this, Boeing Boeing, and The 39 Steps for the last spot in my summer trip, and now I might have to see this.
Very sad news, I wish the best to the cast and crew.
