Do anyone think it'll increase my chances for a $20 student ticket if I wear my Jimmy hat when I go to the box office?
Assuming they offer the show offers these tickets, of couse.

it is my belief that half of growing as a performer is by being an audience member, so i completely agree that tickets should be available to everyone...

Matt,
Sorry you couldn't get in to see the show of your choice. Broadway has many programs that open the doors of the theatre to those who have the desire without the recources : TDF, TKTS, Group sales, etc. The cost of doing a production is staggering and those costs must be recouped when possible. There's a good reason for shows NOT to sell at a discount for as long as they can. Many a show has closed earlier than it should have by discounting tickets too soon in the life of the production (Full Monty comes to mind). If you knew that Macy's had a sale every third Saturday, wouldn't you wait? Once people find out "day of" sales are at a 75% discount, you'd have plenty of full theatres who can't make their payroll.

If I lived in the city and loved theater, I would make signing up for one of the papering services a priority. Charge it, if you have to, because in the long run, it will save you money while satisfying your theater cravings.
I belong to one. For a $99 annual fee, and an additional amount of my choosing that I put "on account" (I started with $30), I am entitled to log on to their website and select at least TWO (you can bring a friend) tickets to the show of my choice that is being offered that day, every day of the year. True, the majority of things offered are off and off-off B'way, but if you are already paying to see these shows, too, at $15 or $20 a pop, this is also a great deal. Periodically, there are B'way shows offered. For each ticket you reserve, no matter what show it is for, three dollars is deducted from your account.
Seriously. I work full time and make a reasonable salary, but with household expenses and two family members in college/grad school, my bank account consistently hovers precariously close to the negative balance, too. A service like this has been a godsend. PM me for specific info, because this group likes to keep a low profile.

Posted: 1/8/05 at 10:46amAs someone who makes little to no money as a teenager obsessed with theatre I can feel your pain. I'm also really concious(sp) with my money. So I get 20 dollars a week from my Gran and it takes about 6 months to save enough for a show, since I spend a little on other stuff. And let me tell you! I get REALLY upset if it sucks. I could have bought shoes with that money! Since you probably have to pay utilities with w/e money you earn a week and rent and other stuff that adults need to pay for. But try putting aside a little money a week, if you can. I don't what your situation is but every little bit helps!

"I could have bought shoes with that money!"
People, I feel compelled to say this: If it is a choice between seeing Broadway shows and wearing shoes, for god's sake, WEAR SHOES! Truly, only a handful of shows are better than wearing shoes. Besides, many theatres REQUIRE you to wear shoes, so if you chose a ticket to Wicked over shoes, they might not let you in barefoot anyway.
No one mentioned it, but if you are foregoing your presciption drugs to buy theatre tickets, stop. Actually, that might explain an awful lot of this thread. If more people had chosen their Paxil over Bombay Dreams, there might have only been one page to this thread.
Anyway, to sum up, Addicted to Seaweed: SHOES. Not SHOWS.

Posted: 1/8/05 at 12:14pmlol no no! It's not that I don't have shoes! Trust me I have over 20 pairs. I'm not only addicted to Seaweed! I'm fourteen and I don't have a job so it's not like I'm making a huge sacrifice by saving my money

I want a top floor unit at Trump's new tower being constructed in Chicago. I can't afford it, but since I have a passion to be there, he should sell me one for a huge discount just because. hahahahahaha

I want a White Chocolate Mocha.
But Starbucks doesn't deliver.
But, you know, no customers are there, and they have a car, so they should deliver it to me, free of charge.
That's good business, right there.
