I was just playing the OBCR they re-released a few years ago with bonus tracks and Annie 2. I have to say it sounds amazing. Fresh, clear, robust, just wonderful.
I don't think I need to get this one. It would only be for Finneran and by all accounts she's dreadful.

Anything that doesn't have those kids using those atrocious fake Brooklyn accents is good.
WORD. Which is why the Overture is my favorite part of the CD. Easy Street actually sounds pretty good, and they didn't cut too much of the orchestrations like they did with You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile.

^Jordan, if the Tony voters can overlook Annaleigh Ashford's horrendous accent in Kinky Boots, I would think you could give those poor little orphans a pass.

The new orchestrations sound pretty good, but this cast (and their accents) just kill any enjoyment that could be had. Anthony Warlow is the stand out, but there's an Australian cast recording with him surrounded by a better cast.
I'm also disappointed in Thomas Z. Shepard. He's done fantastic work in the past having produced some of my most favorite cast albums of all time, but it seems he's losing his touch in his older age. This is not his best work. He usually includes as much dialogue and dance music as he can. I wonder if he was forced to make cuts to some of the dance music to make room for the bonus tracks?

Posted: 5/12/13 at 2:56amI don't understand what went wrong with Katie Finneran. Her whole performance was just all over the place, and she sounds awful even though she definitely has a good voice. She has proven in the past that she is perfectly capable of giving hilarious and distinguished performances with great vocals. As I was watching her, and as I listed to her now, I can't help but wonder what the hell happened.

This is the second time I've seen someone talk about the Kinky Boots cast recording on this board, but it's not out until May 28th. Is it available at the theater already?
