Well, since the committee has already met about Honeymoon, and only ruled that Danza would be featured, I assume the others will be eligible as billed.
I'd be surprised if Fun Home didn't try to petition Sydney Lucas as Featured. She wouldn't have a chance in Leading Actress, but I think she'd be a solid front runner in Featured, and likely the best chance to win an acting award.
The Tony committee seems to like to honor their theatre legends (like Lansbury) so I think Rivera has a good chance if not soley for sentimental reasons but the fact that this will probably be her last starring role in a musical. Voters may feel O'Hara will be around for years to come to claim the prize. After seeing Hudgens and O'Malley, who were serviceable in their roles, I definitely don't feel either deserves or will receive a nomination. Depending on Rivera's reviews (as well as O'Hara's), Chenoweth with her glowing notices seems to be a major contender. Looking forward to see whose nominated in the Best Supporting Role in a Musical category. I would imagine at this point Victoria Clark, Mary Louise Wilson (sentiment once again) and possibly Dee Hoty might be in the running.
I'd be shocked if Ruthie Ann Miles of The King and I is not a strong contender in the featured actress category.

^Or Megan Fairchild or Judy Kuhn.
Megan Fairchild is a beautiful performer and delivers a delightful performance, but I'm not sure it's Tony worthy.
What is the appeal of this Chenoweth woman? I don't get it. She has a fantastic, freak voice, but other than being able to sing the score extremely well, I found very little in her performance in ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY to rave about. She was very pleasant, but I mean, come on now. Am I the only one she irritates the hell out of?
I'm equally confounded by the lack of enthusiasm towards Kelli O'Hara's performance in THE KING AND I. I thought she did some of the finest work of her career. I tend to like O'Hara best when she's restrained, and then suddenly cracks and lets go emotionally at the end of a performance, and she did that for me in THE KING AND I better than I've ever seen her do it before. I didn't think she was perfect in SOUTH PACIFIC, though I did like her in it. I feel like half of the people complaining about her either haven't seen the show, or don't understand Mrs. Anna and how to play her. Mrs. Anna, despite being created by a master stage dazzler, Gertrude Lawrence, is not about flash and dazzle-- at least not the over-the-top flash and dazzle Chenoweth was so acclaimed for recently.
And then there's Chita, who I still think will win. They'll want to reward THE VISIT in some way. Perhaps Kander (and the late Ebb) will win Best Score, after being egregiously overlooked for THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS, but FUN HOME is a remarkable achievement, too, and I wouldn't count it out in that category. People get sentimental when beloved actors are old and on their way to the Actor's Home (I joke, of course). It's been touted in showbiz circles as her last hurrah.
It's a tour de force performance, and probably the biggest acting challenge she's had in her career.
Since O'Hara and Rivera's respective shows haven't opened yet, and haven't gotten reviews yet, I still think it's too early to tell in many ways. I wouldn't mind either lady winning, though. I would really hope that Sydney Lucas is nominated for Featured Actress. Although she'd likely be competing against co-star Judy Kuhn, who deserves to win SOMETHING at this point in her wonderful career, and they could possibly cancel each other out, she's such an extraordinary young girl giving a remarkable, deeply felt performance that I hope she is recognized.

I agree that this is between O'Hara, Chenoweth & Rivera. Right now I'd put my money on Chenoweth (and O'Hara was FLAWLESS in THE KING & I, and no doubt Rivera is amazing in THE VISIT).
I'm going to go with:
Kristin Chenoweth, ON THE 20TH CENTURY
Vanessa Hudgens, GIGI
Laura Michelle Kelly, FINDING NEVERLAND
Kelli O'Hara, THE KING & I
Chita Rivera, THE VISIT
If any of the FUN HOME girls are pushed lead, they'll take Hudgens spot. I think there is really only one open spot; Laura Michele Kelly should get raves even if the show's reception is lukewarm, IMO.
Is it me, or does Hudgens seem impossibly earnest in any clip of her in GIGI I see? It's not on my "must see" list, so I can't judge her actual performance, and don't want to, plus I find GIGI itself to be vile. Nice songs, though.
I know we're talking about the ladies, but would Cerveris be considered the Leading Actor or Featured Actor of FUN HOME? The show is about him, and he is the leading man, but for me, FUN HOME is such an ensemble piece that I've wondered how that'll pan out.
Sorry for the threadjack.
^I think he'll likely end up as lead.
Cerveris won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Musical at the Lortels for Fun Home, so he could possibly be considered Lead Actor for the Tonys. Of course, Sydney Lucas was also Lead Actress for the Lortels (and lost to Ruthie Ann Miles), but I can't imagine she'd be up for Lead Actress at the Tonys.
My top choices in order:
Chita Rivera - The Visit
Kristin Chenoweth - On the Twentieth Century
Kelli O'Hara - The King and I
Laura Michelle Kelly - Finding Neverland
Beth Malone - Fun Home OR Vanessa Hudgens - Gigi
***Unfortunately, feel the Side Show girls ~ Em Padgett & Erin Davie will be left out because they are not considered one***
I second Robbie2's list. I really hope that Laura Michelle Kelly receives a nomination.
Yea, if the side show girls were considered one they'd be in.
But in all honesty they each gave very individual performances. I don't see any justification for combining them from an awards stand point.
I wouldn't be totally shocked if Erin Davie snuck in. In recent years, they have nominated more performances from closed shows.
Erin Davie and Emily Padgett sang all the same songs, did all the same dances for goodness sake! They took the same journey for the most part, they should be together!!!!!!

Learning to sing and dance as one is a technical feat.
Like learning your lines, it's practiced and memorized.
(Not to diminish the impressiveness of what they did).
But in terms of the acting each of the girls had their own journey and their own lessons learned.
And Erin and Emily both gave wonderful, separate performances in that respect.
Thanks for the list, Jeffrey! I think it's nice to honor some performances from closed shows.
And Emily and Erin absolutely gave individualized performances.
**Kristin Chenoweth - On the Twentieth Century
**Vanessa Hudgens - Gigi (I feel like she's the underdog this year just like last year's Mary Bridget Davies-A Night with Janis Joplin. As long as she gets nominated I'd be so happy inside.)
**Chita Rivera - The Visit
**Kelli O'Hara - The King and I
**Laura Michelle Kelly - Finding Neverland

As crazy as this category is going to be, I can't help thinking how really crazy the featured actress in a musical category is going to be.
Ashley Park, Ruthie Ann Miles, Judy Kuhn, Sydney Lucas, Mary Louise Wilson, Carolee Carmello, Victoria Clark, Dee Hoty, Alysha Umphress, and Nancy Opel. All of those are possible nominations and those are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

To those of you who think Vanessa will be nominated: You sure? They wouldn't even nominate Daniel Radcliffe. Three times.
LEADING:
Chita Rivera - The Visit (WINNER)
Kristin Chenoweth - On the Twentieth Century
Kelli O'Hara - The King and I
Laura Michelle Kelly - Finding Neverland
Beth Malone - Fun Home
I think since this will be Chita's last show, she will win. But, not without fierce competition from Cheno.
FEATURED:
Victoria Clark-Gigi
Sydney Lucas-Fun Home
Ruthie Ann Miles-King and I
Nancy Opel-Honeymoon in Vegas
Ashley Park-King and I/Dee Hoty-Gigi/Judy Kuhn-Fun Home
Isn't Sydney Lucas supposed to be excellent? I think it'll be her vs. Ruthie.

yeah. there's no way Vanessa Hudgens is getting a nomination. The Tony nominating committee is very fickle about newbie Hollywood people coming to town. I'm not saying Hudgens isn't talented or good in the show, but they would likely go with another option to fill out a 4th/5th spot than her. so don't get your hopes up. it's Michelle Williams 2.0
