Then I'm confused. Where is the bashing that you speak of, or imply:
I concede that Pascal was ill-advised to post his rant on Facebook, but 5 pages of pissy rebuttal on this thread seems wildly out of scale as a response. There's a mean girl glee to it all, and I'm saddened by the sense that so few of the posters recognize that we might actually be part of the problem too.
Is it the quantity, meaning how many people have commented? Because I don't see any ugly, personal attacks directed at Adam Pascal here. I see criticisms of a public performance that someone who paid money to see found less that stellar. Fair enough.
"I don't see how discussion of public figures on here constitutes bullying."
Kad, 2 words: Katherine McPhee.
I wince as I type those words because somewhere on here you can find a post of mine casting McPhee as the cardboard moon in The Fantastics. Why did I write it? To fit in with the cool kid mentality of the moment. I'm not blameless here.

But, but ? First you say it's their job to deliver the goods. But then, is it okay if they don't, as you acknowledge in your second sentence.
Jane, what are you reading? I said "it happens all the time." I didn't excuse it or say it was okay. I said it happens to seasoned professionals and newbies alike.
Just read the words I wrote, and quit picking a fight.

Not a fan of Pascal, and agree with Phyl that his rant was foolish, but I also agree with Someone in a Tree that this stuff often crosses the line. I remember the Bring the Tonys back to Broadway (or whatever it was) debacle that happened a couple years back. Yeah, Hunter Foster went about it the wrong way, some stupid things were said - but he did have a point. The Tonys that year had a lot of content that had little to do with Broadway.
Words got twisted, the whole thing was blown out of proportion, and BWW collectively lost its mind. All kinds of horrible things were said, terrible name-calling and insults thrown around - at least two threads over 20 pages long of bile spewed.
The mean girl, piling on aspect of this board that pops up on occasion has always been the least attractive thing about it for me, but some really enjoy it - perhaps a little too much.
The best thing that came from all of that was from Phyl, who suggested that celebs step away from the computer. Last, even though it's public, and not remotely illegal, I really think it's disgusting that someone Pascal friended posted that ill-advised rant from his page. I guess that's why they call them "friends".
never mind. I'd better go somewhere else
...And here I was thinking I'd have nothing to do tonight. The refresh button is slowly becoming my new best friend.
This is too good.

Ghostlight, that was his facebook FAN PAGE. Not his personal FB page. That would've been stepping over the line.

In that case, LizzieCurry, I sincerely apologize. That is indeed a huge difference.
In the Bring Broadway back to the Tonys, BWW's were friending actors for the sole purpose of posting from their private pages, which I thought was awful.
Again, my apologies to you.

good for you! I very much agree. Adam has every right to defend himself just as much as the guy who wrote the "review" or whatever it was had a right to say what he said.

Actually, it's hard to find a single career that DOESN'T have public scrutiny, and the average teenage server at your local TGI Fridays doesn't have anywhere near as much money invested in their job performance as a Broadway actor.
It's funny, I remember when Adam used his computer to publicly bully his fans. But that was years ago and beside the point.
The post Winston made was in no way worthy of this response. That's all there is. Adam is a professional. He has been at this far too long to accidentally-on-purpose stumble across the only thread on BWW about him in years and get so upset he has to turn it into a soap box moment about mean people on the internet. Again.
It's not like Winston posted on his Facebook wall, tweeted it at him, or shouted it at him as he ran out the side entrance to avoid the stage door. If he doesn't want to read it, he shouldn't come to BWW, search for his name, and seek out posts about himself. This is all just to validate himself and Winston's post gave him the first vaguest excuse to do so since he started this run. If you want to see real cruelty, follow a Hollywood celebrity on Twitter and see the kind of things people say directly to them.

I don't think he was trying to "look good" .. I think he was annoyed and was trying to get it off his chest just like every other human being in the world does when they get annoyed!

I would love to know more about that....
Didn't he mention livejournal in one of his songs?

What a crybaby. People were pissed they paid $100+ to see someone mess up a song. Deal with it, move on and don't let it happen again.
Criticism =/= bullying

Remember that time people were saying that absolutely no one seriously involved in theater reads or cares about anything we post on here...?

Adam needs to get a sense of humor and not be so girly sensitive about this. Many actors have flubbed and forgotten lyrics and lines and laughed it off along with the audience- it happens. The guy who saw the show paid his money and is evidently a big fan of the show and was disappointed in not only Adam, but the entire performance it seems. This may be great publicity for the show as I am sure some of the media will pick up on the story- I can hear people say- Hey let's go see Chicago to see if Adam forgets his lyrics and to see 50 year old chorus boys and girls hanging on to their last show. And- he couldn't have given a worse performance than his awful stint in Aida.
And those comments (immediately)above are far worse than what the original post said.

No, but you can change that to "virtually" no one seriously involved in theater does. Most actors are too smart (or sensitive) to read, much less reply. The creatives don't care. Some of the bean counters and producers use interns to look for leaks, information of libelous nature, and the occasional trend of how best to market something. Things like that. This board, by and large, attaches far more importance to itself than it actually has.
Otherwise, it's lazy hack writers who need quick copy, insecure actors like Pascal, and us.

Is it true Anthony Rapp actually came on this message Board to Defend RENT?
They read.
They may deny it, but they read.
Someone In A Tree2 - Good point. Wonder how Pascal would have responded to the "bullying" McPhee got every week SMASH was on for 2 yrs?

I know various people involved in theater in various capacities (producers, creatives, actors) who check these boards to genuinely gauge buzz on their shows and feel out what we think. Does that mean they change things because we don't like them? No. Does that mean we have this incredible power over them? No. But many people on here were saying NO ONE cares what we have to say and that they "make fun" of us (which is probably true of some theater insiders...and also in horrible taste...talk about biting the hand that feeds you. But I digress.) I do also know theater "insiders" who stay as far away from here as possible. Not denying those people don't exist.
Anyway, my overall point was just that Pascal is one of a handful of performers who have made it public that they read what we have to say. And clearly he cared enough to say something about our conversations on here.
I'm not, however, delusional in thinking that we have some huge influence over the theater world at large, or in any capacity. But clearly some people legitimately involved in the theater world care or read what we post about.

Adam Pascal thinks you all are a bunch of douche bags.
And then he took a deep breath and let it go.
So should you.
There.
Better?
^ That pretty much summarizes it.
