(Not that Finding Neverland is high art) but is someone going to bring up the fact that Alfie Boe can't act?

How is Boe's dancing?

Hmm...
I'm very conflicted about this. I LOVE Alfie Boe. I think his voice is gorgeous; So gorgeous that his acting in Les Mis (which is admittedly somewhat wooden) didn't bother me at all. Jean Valjean can be "stoic" and "serious" enough to let Boe's acting pass without much of an issue.
In something like this though? Where he's supposed to be a charming, outside-the-box man with a strong inner-child? I just don't know. (Morrison didn't pull off the character well in my opinion either, btw).
I also wonder how his voice will sound on those pop songs in the score? Les Mis also has a pop-Broadway sound to it, but at least the "wanna-be Opera" nature of the score suits itself well to Boe's voice. I really can't imagine Boe singing "Believe" or "We Own The Night."

It's such a pop show and the operetic voice would stand out like a sore thumb

I see him as more of a hook and Charles frohman, but still he's not a good fit for this show.

Poor Tony Yazbeck. The finest, scruffiest piece of tail on Broadway and he's being canned for Park-And-Bark Boe...

I don't believe he's being canned, since he's always planned to go out with the On the Town tour. Although I've never seen a date for his departure from Finding Neverland, my understanding was that it was set to be a short engagement from the beginning.

When Yazbeck was announced at the beginning of January, it was stated he would be in the show for a limited time only.

Cool, Alfie Boe grew up in Blackpool, close to the boarder to Scotland, so he should be familiar with the accent even though he isn't Scottish himself.

I'd be amazed if J M Barrie even had a Scottish accent.

Alfie Boe did not grow up in Blackpool, he grew up in Lytham St. Annes and Blackpool is no where near the boarder to Scotland. I'm Scottish and I went to university in Preston which is near Lytham and Blackpool.

Are you sure that that's the case? As far as this month goes, he did/does have a slew of dates where he's scheduled to be out in addition to his usual Sunday day off. And, yes, some of them were either back to back or even a few days in a row. He's been out/scheduled to be out this month on the 5th-10th, the 14th, the 16th, the 21st, the 23, and one of the two performances on the 27th. I know that within the last month or so there were also a slew of dates that he was slated to be out for in addition to the typical Sunday voice rest day.
Now, I have seen this production of Les Miserables a whole lot more than I should be comfortable saying (It's my all time favorite.) And yes, I feel that between Ramin and Alfie, there have been way too many additonal days off aside from the one day for voice rest. But, I do know that have a reputation for missing a ton of performances is not a good one to have. That leaves me wondering if it's at all possible for one to not follow closely when he is slated to be out, voice rest day or otherwise, and misconstrue it for playing hooky from work?

Regardless, whoever is out, audiences get to see the fabulous Keven Kern..
It's an interesting choice for sure...and it also seems to indicate they plan to keep the show going on longer than some people have guessed.

It's great that he will get the time in New York to practice and really settle into the part with some what less pressure on him before facing the wrath of the British critics when it opens in London. Usually he would only have the preview period.
Have other transfering shows done that, hire an actor as a replacement of a role in one area before they open the show in another one?

Love Boe's voice, but saw him back in the day in Le Boheme and his acting was quite weak. Hope it's improved.

"
I can only think of Trent Kowalik who portrayed Billy Elliot as a replacement in London in 2007 before he back in the States as one of the original 3 Billys in the Broadway cast in 2008. Whether or not they knew they would bring Trent back to the States to open the show on Broadway....I don't know. I think I remember hearing rumbles that they had sent him to London to gain some experience in the role before opening in NY but I have no idea if that was truth or rumor.

I know Gavin Lee did the opposite- he played Bert in Mary Poppins in London and then came over and did it on broadway. Also, Trevor Dion Nicholas has been the standby Genie in Aladdin on Broadway for about a year and now he's going to open the show in London

When Michael Crawford became ill in Andrew Lloyd Webber's WOMAN IN WHITE in London, Michael Ball took over in the London run. Michael Ball opened the ill-fated show on Broadway, but he and Maria Friedman became ill and the show closed after only a very short run.
