That's right, the madness continues!
to all those who are annoyed by all these brackets: nya nya!
and to PG2: sorry if I beat you to the punch
this is gonna run just like the previous brackets
To qualify, any composer must:
1. have been born after 1950
2. have written the music for atleast one Broadway produced show
The qualifing round will end next Monday at midnight
I will start us off with three composers with 1 vote each:
Adam Guettel - 1
Michael John LaChiusa - 1
Marc Shaiman - 1
You can only vote once. For the qualifiers you will copy and paste the list above you. You may
a)Add two composers to the list
AND
b)Add two votes to any two other composers.
Example:
Adam Guettel - 2
Michael John LaChiusa - 2
Marc Shaiman - 1
Jason Robert Brown - 1
Duncan Sheik - 1
Once a composer has received 4 VOTES, they have made it into the bracket and they're finished here. DO NOT VOTE FOR ANYONE THAT ALREADY HAS 4 VOTES.
Remember:
you cannot subtract votes
refresh the page just to make sure no one has posted right before you go to vote
check the ages of those you submit
and away. we. go!
Adam Guettel - 1
Michael John LaChiusa - 1
Marc Shaiman - 1
"If artists were machines, then I'm just a different kind of machine...I'd probably be a toaster. Actually, I'd be a toaster oven because they're more versatile. And I like making grilled cheese" -Regina Spektor
"That's, like, twelve shows! ...Or seven." -Crazy SA Fangirl
"They say that just being relaxed is the most important thing [in acting]. I take that to another level, I think kinda like yawning and...like being partially asleep onstage is also good, but whatever." - Sherie Rene Scott

coming soon: The Greatest Key Change in a Musical of This Generation!

Posted: 5/14/09 at 11:09pmCan Duncan Sheik really, honestly be considered a "musical theater composer" (let alone be a legitimately contender for the greatest of the generation) in the company of people like Michael John LaChuisa and Adam Guettel who have truly made this their profession?

"2. have written the music for atleast one Broadway produced show"
but he was just being used as a suggestion

Posted: 5/14/09 at 11:22pmRight, I saw the criteria; I just don't think having written one Broadway show is enough to make you a contender for the GREATEST MUSICAL THEATER COMPOSER OF THE GENERATION. How would that make sense? You should narrow it down a little.

Posted: 5/14/09 at 11:38pmReally? Piazza was his only Broadway show? I guess since he's such theatre royalty I assumed otherwise. But still, Duncan Sheik is a ridiculous example, despite the fact that he's written three shows or whatever. I don't see how in anyone's right mind he could be a contender for this.

Another point for Uncle Marc, because his smackdowns are EPIC, and I'm going to give LMM the benefit of the doubt and work on the assumption he's got something else up his sleeve for us. Even if he doesn't at the moment, his next work will still probably materialise before Adam Guettel's. (Don't get me wrong, I ADORE Guettel, but apparently genius can only come at a truly glacial pace.)
