Too bad Damiano's dresses are just borrowed for the shoot, because she looks the best out of anyone here.
Oh, and despite the STUPID name, Swiss Miss looks awesome. And Carnage is a mess. Too bad since based on the comics, he's my favorite of the villains in the show.

Posted: 11/15/10 at 8:34amSo true! It's just unfortunate- although it's probably just for the shoot- that she's always in one of the 'damsel in distress' positions. I don't think that really captures the modern essence of MJ's character at all. But those dresses... YUM.

Posted: 11/15/10 at 9:03amI wish they hadn't gone for the cartoon-y look. I would have loved to see some of those dresses without them looking like they were just pasted on there from another picture. They look like they would have been stunning.

@Eris
How come? Venom is for sure a better character than Carnage, but Carnage has a completely separate lineage with Cletus Kassady versus Eddie Brock. Cletus is an evil psychopath all the time- and that carries into Venom, whereas Venom is something that takes over the more unsuspecting Eddie Brock. The only relation is in Carnage's creation that he was a cellmate with Brock and got the symbiote from him. It's easily explained that Brock is still in prison- Kassady escaped- etc. Yeah?

Posted: 11/15/10 at 11:04amI'm sorry. Those aren't even close to photographs. They look like drawings. Ugly! Ugly! Ugly! Plus they are so far from what Annie's work is about they make me ill. We all know she needs the money, but those "photos" are heinous.

Those are really ugly. This show looks absolutely ridiculous.
How many villians are in this anyway? At least 3 so far.

Carnage is Carnage is because of Venom. Without coming into contact with Venom/Brock Kasady would just be a normal serial killer without special powers. I cannot understand how they would only use one of the most recognizable villians in dialogue without actually showing him. It's stupid but then again a lot of what I've seen from this show is stupid.

Lizard, Green Goblin, Carnage, Electro, Rhino Swiss Miss, and Swarm. Swiss Miss is the only original character in this list.

Posted: 11/15/10 at 12:28pmI love how many other closet comic book nerds there are on BWW. And it's hard to tell what is actually part of the show in these pics, but it looks its budget. Nearly.

There are also something called The Furies and Kraven.
eta: How did she manage to get the entire opening night audience in her shots? AMAZING!
#18Annie Leibovitz Photographs Spider-Man
Posted: 11/15/10 at 1:29pmI think Kraven is one of the more interesting characters since he's not your tradition "bad guy" but it seems they only wanted characters with over the top costumes rather than a guy in animal skin.

@Bettyboy
I agree. If I had seen the photos without any photographer credits, I would NEVER have thought them to be Annie's work.

Posted: 11/15/10 at 1:44pmEris, Kraven's costume has been made. A friend of mine worked on his chest plate. The costume looks like a Mardi gras character though. They have Taymorized him....

Honestly some people on here are just plain stupid.,
How an earth do these pics look ugly, stupid etc?
The pictures are stunning and have been made to have the feel of a comic book look. I swear some people just slam stuff like this because they read to much Riedel.

Posted: 11/15/10 at 1:58pmNo, SPIDERMAN is slammed because it's SPIDERMAN, the biggest fvckup in Broadway history.

So because I think those pics look ugly (and I really do) that makes me stupid?
I would say that the stupid ones are those who assume anyone with a different opinion has some desire to "slam stuff".
I have no inclination to denigrate this show. I know very little about it, but since this is a thread about "photos" in a major publication I would imagine that everyone is entitled to their point of view.

Because songanddanceman, the pictures are just plain ugly and awkward looking. Not because it is Spiderman. Not because it is a show that is just an ego masturbation project of Taymor's. Because they are just ugly and stupid looking!
