A pox upon your house yankeefan. I was just getting back to normal after Kyle's death and then you had to go and open the wound again.
Oh Lord, why did it have to be Kyle? Why'd you have to take him? Why couldn't it be the drag queen producer or the sexually confused male assistant? Why couldn't it be the brunette Marilyn who couldn't act or the son who couldn't act either? Why did it have to be sweet, innocent Kyle?

I adored Smash, and liked how it was a sort of trashy, unrealistic soap opera about theater with great music. If it did nothing but raise the Hollywood profiles of Hilty, Jordan, Mientus, and the ever delightful Ms. Wesley Taylor, then even better...
I definitely miss the show, but I do NOT miss Katharine McPhee.
It's hard for me to miss the show because that second season was just atrocious. Kyle is a perfect example of what went wrong. We were presented with a whiny, talentless fanboy, who cheats on his boyfriend, and then dies for the sole purpose of a tasteless Rent parallel. I'm okay with a pulpy plot, but we need to have some understanding of a characters motivations to relate to them. I didn't really know who Kyle was, or why I should care about him. I had similar issues with just about every other character on Smash, especially the ones who were brought in for the second season. It felt like they were randomly picking plot points and characters out of a bag, and throwing them into an episode. I think that it was hard for people to feel anything when Kyle died because there wasn't really anything to miss.

"Okay, I could probably write like 25 pages on what was wrong with smash..."
My question in cases like this is always... then why watch it? There are many popular shows that I don't care for, so I just stopped watching them.

Did you see the first season? Season 2 was miles ahead of Season 1.
I miss the music from season 2. Hit List was great. Also Jeremy Jordan.
I'll have to respectfully disagree about season 2 being superior, but I did like Hit List's score. The Jeremy Jordan character was insufferable.
I only needed to live through that dialogue once.
And most of the covers.
I miss Megan Hilty appearing on my tv (almost) every week. At least the show raised her profile.
Season One, yes.
Season Two, no.

I thought of SMASH again when I saw Andy Mientus in the audience at STAGE KISS a little over a week ago. (Hmmm, maybe Ellis was at the wheel when Kyle met his untimely end.) But I do miss that silly show; in fact, my guiltiest pleasure was the infamous Bollywood episode.

It's called hate-watching. People would compete to see who could find the stupidest, cheesiest line and tweet it first.

Wow... what a colossal waste of time, hehe.
I miss the scene where Angelica Houston had an entire phone conversation with Michael Riedel whilst obviously holding her iPhone upside down.
I miss the Annoying Actor Friend recaps... if you haven't read them, they're spot-on and hysterical.

As someone who isn't IN the business but loves theater and loves musicals and anything related to it (and has a whole slew of recordings, videos, posters and reads all the pages and any info he can about Broadway, London and all the other amazing theater in the world... I actually miss the show. I am a huge fan of "soap operas" too (Eastenders, General Hospital etc) and I liked the over sensationalized drama of it all -- plus the songs where really good. Some of them even amazing. I wish it had been picked up by another channel cause even the bad ratings on NBC where still better then some of the "hits" on other channels. (OWN, WE, Lifetime, ABC Family -- which took away Bunheads another sore subject) -- But I do hope that there will be another like it down the road.

Kyle cheats on his boyfriend, like that never happens in real life with someone in their twenties. Yes, they were doing a "Rent" parallel but I think they were also trying to have something happen to Jimmy that would make him turn his life around. Maybe it was not done very well but I could see what they were attempting to do with the story. IMO - Kyle was a young man who loved Broadway and dreamed of writing a Broadway musical, thought that was fairly obvious in the show.
I miss how, for season 1 of SMASH any and all criticism of the show was immediately taken down from the All That Chat message board. And then suddenly, for season 2 it was a free-for-all and you could bash it all you wanted. Gee, think someone there is pals with Theresa Rebeck? It was quite embarrassing for ATC in my opinion.
I do miss that cutie Jeremy Jordan, but the rest of the show stunk on ice!!!!
I miss the times when Anjelica Houston threw a drink at someone's face.

I will never forget the waves of endorphins during Let Me Be Your Star in the premiere.
^And with that song/scene, the show displayed so much promise.
