Ugh...I'm so mad that the birdwoman got in last night...she is vile.

Whizzer took a picture of her last night...maybe he'll post it! She looked worse than ever. Very short and round woman - looks like a canary, hence the nickname "birdwoman."

People need to start badgering these useless trolls for extra tickets. See how they like it.

One of the guys was outside of People in the Picture last night. I was sure to let him know that "people are onto his game." lol.

Kalimba, I like that idea. When they ask you if you have a ticket, say, "No, do you? Will you give me a ticket?"

Ljay, give 'em what for! Someone needs to, apparently. I've never seen these people before, but I think their game is ridiculous.

Has anybody been unfortunate enough to find themselves actually sitting next to one of the creatures?

Bumping this thread because they were out in full force at Follies this afternoon.

The guy with the glasses (who wears all black) was especially bold today. He approached ljay and I, asking if we had an extra ticket. I decided to go along with his game for a moment, and politely said I didn't, but that I knew the box office did, and it was just downstairs. He said, "I don't have any money. Can you give me $60, please?"

I was flabbergasted that he actually had the nerve to ask me for money. They're getting ballsy!

By the way....he got in. Someone gave him a ticket, because about 5 minutes before curtain, I saw him stroll in to the mezzanine.

That guy with the glasses who wears all black - his nickname is Neanderthal. I'm sorry to hear he got in this afternoon. Ridiculous that they are now asking for money too!

Wow, Adam. I see that particular beggar at almost every show I attend, but this is the first time I've actually heard him ask someone for the money to buy a ticket. Getting ballsy, indeed.

What I still can never quite get over is that they almost always seem to get in. I saw the glasses man begging outside of the final concert performance of COMPANY, and not only did he get in, but he ended up with about a tenth row center orchestra seat. (I noticed him from my VIP box seat in the first tier) I couldn't believe that not only did someone give him a ticket, but a $175 at that! And, in traditional fashion, he was fast asleep ten minutes in.

Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

Wow. I hope I never have to deal with these people. Though I have a feeling that I've dealt with one of them at Next to Normal's closing night. I couldn't tell you what they looked like, but they trolled the line for about an hour asking if anyone had a spare ticket.

I saw them at Alice's last performance in Next to Normal, Next to Normal's closing night, and at the third preview for Hair's Summer of Love engagement, a woman was asking for free tickets. I didn't realize that their practice was recognized like this. I love this thread.

I truly think we should start photographing these extortionists so they can be blacklisted once and for all.

At the same time though, I kind of look forward to being approached by one of them so I can bitch 'em out. :)

How exactly are they extortionists?

Obnoxious, vile, repugnant, sure.

And, if people are stupid/softhearted/gullible enough to give their tickets to these trolls, well, that is their problem.

I find their behavior to be obnoxious, but how exactly are they committing extortion?

Maybe I should have chosen a more appropriate word, as they don't often threaten people or use force, but they most certainly are repugnant.

I just can't believe that anyone would actually GIVE them a ticket....

and what irritates me most is that you KNOW when they sit down in that seat, they probably complain about how bad the seat is.

I was at Billy Elliot a couple years ago and a VERY BLATANT "inter-misser" sat down next to me and told me her seats were awful for Act I. You can always pick out an "intermisser", because they don't look like smokers, but smell like it, because they've been sitting outside during intermission with the smokers waiting for the chance to jump back in.

I had actually read this thread the night before I did the Mormon SRO line (which was on August 10th). About three hours after I got there (I had been there since 5:45AM), the paranoid lady was trolling the line and crossed back and forth on 49th Street roughly 10 times and counted the amount of people in the line...it was FREAKY!

Also, some 50-something lady, as sweet as she was, had the gall to ask me (since I was only buying one ticket) to buy one for her daughter as she couldn't get to the line. I politely declined her request (though my mind was telling to to scream "NO F*CK!NG WAY, YOU SNAKE!") and she continued to ask others on line behind me. She didn't succeed, to my relief.
