ohhhh yes it is yeah, i needed to take a few deep breaths, and conceal a small yelp when i saw the Scott Nevins' pictures...the things Michael Arden does to me...scratch that, the things i wish he would do to me i don't think that has a risk of being deleted
haha i am no threat, i'd most likely walk upto him and just be speechless, or the other possible scenario be to afraid to aproach him...no need to alert Mr. Arden
I assume you've seen the show broadwayguy2? I also assume that you have only good things to say? I once again assume that i've used the word assume way too many times in this post... (currently staring and BlueWizards pic of Michael which is a very legit reason for my delirium)
yeah i would have wanted to see the original NY production, but i will definitely settle for the reworked version, i can only think they would make it better than it was, and i've heard so many good things.
the character arcs for the supporing characters are never finished.. no closure on Matt or Nadia...... 911! Emergency! would be HILARIOUS if they added in two boys.. cause it IS a fantasy of a 17 year old gay boy.... a few things to make the priest more dominating over the students...... more of an establishment of Peter and Jason's room as their 'sanctuary'....
I'm surprised no closure was made between Nadia and Matt, Nadia's character seemed to be up there on the emotionally troubled list, and i would have hoped she got some closure. the reviews i've read are very promising, the only negative one said it was TOO dramatic.
my review in september will be huge...definitely luvtheemcee's school of long posts worthy
Sorry I disappeared. I just had an awful, awful day, so it's time to relax into the BARE thread. *deep breath* My, it's grown.
Michael Arden's tallness - I didn't really notice while talking to him. But I'm 5'11", so it wasn't like he was towering over me. He's SO loveable - thought I'd mention that for the umpteenth time. It won't be the last, I assure you.
Revising the production - my recommendations (they're in a post waaay back) included reworking the finale, "No Voice" (it ends too abruptly and ambiguously, although still very powerful), giving Ivy less songs and more substance (I didn't sympathize with her at all, she was too flakey), and giving Jason and Peter an actual love duet (not a problematic love duet where they vent their frustrations, but one where we actually see that they're happy together). I have a few more nitpicks, but in general I actually found the production very smooth. Kristen Haggi's direction is wonderful: very focused and inventive.
Most of the major criticisms against BARE are things that are intrinsic to the play, so I don't know if they CAN be changed. Some have said it's too melodramatic - but it is adolesence, after all. I think that's what makes the show so powerful: that it wears its heart on its sleeve. (Plus, the show's full name already warns you that it's a pop OPERA, which is by definition melodramatic.) One big beef against the show is that it has a predictable plot, which is true; but the plot is so well-structured that I don't know how they'll be able to rework it without the entire thing falling apart.
Some have also criticized the score for not being catchy enough, and I used to agree to a certain extent; but now with the CD sampler, I've discovered that this score requires multiple listens in order to be hooked in - and boy, does it hook you in! I've been singing and humming these songs for two months now, and they don't get old. That's a much better alternative than having instantly hummable tunes that then get really annoying and tiresome.
So those are just a few things I wanted to point out. I have more to say, but for now - after an uber-long day - I'm exhausted. I better crawl into bed and dream of Michael Arden....*sigh*

HEDWIG: "The road is my home. In reflecting upon the people whom I have come upon in my travels, I cannot help but think of the people who have come upon me."
as do i Blue Wizard...in fact, i just got done singing along with the show a little while ago. I'm just grateful that we get the chance to see the show again, and to see that so many people are behind this show. The word-of-mouth on this show has been INCREDIBLE. the old house manager at the ATA, shorie, was so happy b/c i kept on bring groups back. i look forward to seeing what Damon and co. have in store for us in September. and I know i'll be first there on July 27th for the auditions!
There are some people in the world who say that writing stories, or composing music or dancing sparkly dances is easy for them. Nothing interferes with their ability to create. While I celebrate their creative freedom, a little part of me just wants to punch those motherf*ckers in the teeth...[tos]
I LOVED Shorey Walker when I met her.. She and her assistannt, Luke Stoffel, were VERY nice. I was lucky enough to have great conversations with them each time I saw the show. I woudl spend intermission chatting with the two of them. I sat outside with Luke whie he had a smoke and he was HILARIOUS!
