From one horrible day to another....I just had a huge fight with my newly Bible-thumping "reborn Christian" sister about gay marriage. Supposedly, my relationships with men aren't as "committed" as a relationship she would have with a husband. (Sorry, I know it's inappropriate to vent off-topic here, but I'm frustrated, and I know you'll all listen.)
But back to BARE: thanks for the pics, PrivateUniverse! I love Ben Strothmann's photography, I think he's wonderful.

Oh ugh BlueWizard. I just love how people can judge a relationship just based on whether the two people involved are of the same or differing genders. Oh please.
*Hugs*
I'm a big fan of Ben's photography too. Plus he takes pictures of the most beautiful men ever which helps out a lot!
BTW, have you purchased your tickets yet to Bare's re-opening?
Sadly, I don't live in New York - I'm from Canada. I just like to keep track of the NYC theatre scene out of love, and also so I know what to see the next time I'm in town.
But I hope you all have a great time in September, and post or PM me all the spoiler-ific details!

You're gonna love it even more when you get to SEE it; Michael Arden's smile will make you melt.

*sigh* we're back to Michael Arden...funny how most of the convos end up going back to him...
If he doesn't get some major awards next season, it'll be a crime.

I totally agree about Michael and awards. That voice and his acting are just screaming for a future Tony. I love me some John Hill in the worst way but Michael is just...words aren't enough to describe how much I admire him.
*swoon* i admire him a billion times more after listening to it. seriously, this show must win something. it is a great story with great music, it tells it like it is. it isn't afraid to let the world know. this is what the world needs. a boy and a boy can be in love, and it is just as beautiful as a man and a woman.
ok i went from michael arden, to bare, to gay rights...this show has some affect on you
It's also nice to have what is perhaps the first Coming Out Musical. And what better way for a gay boy to come out than through song!

AMEN Blue Wizard! It's an oh-so-gay way to come out, but you don't hear me complaining. I think it's the best coming out story since I saw "Beautiful Thing" a couple of seasons ago.

Of course they're good looking, as we have all said to death, but the fact is they are all increcible performers. Sitting in the front row of the ATA has been one of the biggest gifts that I have received as an audience member thus far.

They are all flawless live performers and amazingly deep actors. The emotion you feel from the music alone is one of a kind. The singing conveys the emotion exceptionally. You have to admire them for their amazing talent and hard work, as well as their great looks
I'm listening to BARE right now, and there's something I had forgotten....Ivy is a b*tch! After "Wonderland," she says to Nadia that she's "noticed that some of [her] clothes are missing." She also tells her, "You have yourself a good night - and don't touch anything!"
If they want to make Ivy a more sympathetic character, they're gonna have to make her less vile.

Um... before Ivy walks into th dorm room thats he shares with nadia, Nadia is standing in front of the mirror holding some of Ivy's clothes up to here and she gets pissed because there is no way they could fit and she throws them agaist the wall.....
yes, Ivy is a bitch... I think, howver, that Jenna DID make her a bit sympathetic for the audience.....
Oh yes, Jenna is great. But I still think Ivy's character needs work: they've given her a lot of songs where she tries to squeeze sympathy from the audience (Portrait of a Girl, Touch My Soul), but I still see a shameless floozy who turns away the wrong man and gets her comeuppance.
Or maybe I'm just heartless.

I think Jenna really fleshed out the character and made it her own more than what is actually in the material. I'm glad they've kept her all this time, because she gives the role a depth gained from staying with the role, that would be missing if they found someone new with each incarnation of the musical.

From listening to it, she is a total bitch. But...Jenna did make me feel bad for Ivy when Jason rejects her, i felt sincerely bad for her...Ivy is just as emotionally strained as the rest. Jenna did a great job being the bitch then transitioning to the vulnerable Ivy, and she can only make it better for September.
Tomorrow night is Joe's Pub! For everyone going, remember to bring a camera and a notepad to keep a list of what's performed! (Is anyone making an audio recording of the evening? Jamie?)
I'm listening to "Best Kept Secret" right now....my goodness, Michael Arden's voice is so touchingly beautiful in this song! Even more than usual!

I've got fresh batteries in the digital camera, and I'm ready to go. I'm SO looking forward to this!
