The movie is awful. Not even entertaining in a so bad it’s good kind of way. Can’t wait to not see this. I can’t imagine it’ll actually happen anyway.

I would have been content to never know there was a Broadway NFT website… Well this might be the most useful I’ve ever seen an NFT be; we should just use them to leak upcoming shows and nothing else

It's certainly possible for a flop film to find second life on Broadway, but Newsies worked its way up slowly from regional productions, whilst Xanadu chose to embrace the camp elements of the original film, which was old enough to be accepted as a relic of a certain late-disco kitsch that had become nostalgic by the time the musical opened on Broadway. Unless Burlesque can embrace the camp or find a strong creative team, it will probably fail...

I like the film, even though it is super cheesey,but just found some interesting comments that I've never heard before from bombreport.com :

"Sony’s Screen Gems financed Burlesque, which was originally budgeted at $50M and it would be the low budget genre label’s most expensive production.  Burlesque was written and directed by Steve Antin, who was Screen Gems president Clint Culpepper’s longtime boyfriend of 20 years and the fights these two had during the shoot were apparently the stuff of legend.  Shoving matches, drinks poured over Antin’s head, screaming and out of control hysterical tantrums pushed the shoot to over 70 days and far over budget.  The budget estimates for Burlesque are north of $60 million — though Sony insisted the net cost was $55 million.   The film also underwent last minute reshoots to change the ending just a few weeks before its release after test screening responses."

"Sony cited the disappointing box office of Burlesque for contributing to a $58 million quarter loss."

Not sure what the latest on this is, but last I heard it was intended for Papermill's upcoming season until the Todrick Hall controversies came out and they pulled it.  He was apparently writing new music for the stage version, not sure if they're looking to replace him or if they're just waiting for the controversy to die down a bit.

Hall's obnoxious behavior on Celebrity BB is the sort of thing that the Burlesque team CAN ride out, but I feel like it illustrates some of the biggest issues with getting a contemporary popstar to do the soundtrack. b/c his musical persona relies on flamboyance and positivity, his meanness and gamesmanship on Celeb BB did real damage to the brand that Burlesque would be relying on...
